Gingerbread and An Autumn Acorn- A Fall Doodle Freebie

 Good Sunday morning, Sunshine!

It is a lovely day to enjoy some slow stitching so I won't keep you long.  For I am sure you are going to settle down with needle and thread of your own  and stitch the day away. ๐Ÿค—

Meanwhile, here in the holler I am going to quilt on some gingerbread men on my Roll and Bake quilt.

This has been my 15 a minute a day project for the week.   A Plate of Gingers

And....since I embroidered my Gingerbread girl for a future Christmas  ornament...

From A Very Vintage Christmas Doodles

... I will begin the little reindeer embroidery.

AND...

I am going to enjoy some needle turn applique in a little  Autumn Acorn block.

I am appliqueing my acorn on a background piece measuring  7 1/2" x 8 1/2" ( unfinished)  ( 7" x 8 " finished) . Framed with 2 1/2" strips ( unfinished) and 2 1/2" (unfinished)  corner blocks.

A little doodle just for you. You can use it for embroidery, coloring, needle punch, applique or whatever your sweet heart dreams up!  Enjoy

My doodles are hand drawn and are never perfect. ❤

Surely this will keep me busy.  Don't ya' think?

So tell me what are you going to be working on today?

May your heart be happy and your fingers nimble as your needle flies!

Happy Sunday, Sweethearts. Love ya'!

As Always...

Happy  Stitching and Quilting, y'all

It's All About Apples and a Mason Jar Freebie

Y'all it's just about that time of the year! Apple Pickin' Season!  Oh, I cannot wait.

How about you?

STAMP 1 - A BASKET OF APPLES

Up on the mountain a few counties away, are some delightful apple orchards where apples galore are sold by the box.

Perhaps Mr. Pinker and I will take a day trip and snatch us a box or two. Maybe stop by the pepper patch and pick up a 5 gallon bucket of bell peppers for just $5.00 too. Oh, that would be wonderful.

Apple Crate

I am pulling out more of my apple decor. Yesterday I went thrift shopping and found this fabulous apple spongeware canister.

"Oooh that will be perfect!" I squealed in delight . "Not only can I pair it  with my blue enamelware but  also with the gorgeous cross stitch that sweet Donna sent me a few weeks ago in a Blessing Box, " I told myself.

Aaaw don't you think they make a good pair?  I am smitten.

She also sent  this beautiful hand stitched and appliqued quilt. Swoon!  Isn't it darling? ๐Ÿค— Or should I say apple-icious! ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ

Apples, quilts and a pie- now what is not to love. Hee! Hee! Thank you sweet Donna.❤๐Ÿ˜˜  I will cherish these.

I may be moving the apple quilt in the near future to my hutch when I pull out more apple-icous goodies to display.

Speaking of apple goodies. I hope you do not mind if I sprinkle links to previous apple themed posts that I have shared in the past. There are recipes, mini quilt instructions, doodles , cross stitch and of course loads of country clutter or as some call it  good ole' fashioned junk  treasures๐Ÿ˜. If you are interested, just click on the colored links, Sweet peas and you will be magically transported back to the post.

Have I told you that I eat an apple every single day? I think I have . Anywhooo... I keep unsweetened applesauce in my pantry just in case I run out of apples before I can get to the grocery store.

An apple a day keeps the doctor away or so they say.

Behind my Granny's old log cabin were massive apple trees along a fence line. If we were  lucky and if Granny was up to the trip, she would  take us youngins' into the woods, past the small grape lined trellises to the apple trees with limbs drooping to the ground with ever so heavy apples. We would fill our little basket up with green apples . Of course , we could not resist eating an apple or two before we traipsed back through the weeds to the old log cabin.

Apple Picking- A Heart Doodle Freebie

Meanwhile back at Nanny's on the farm, there was cooking going on.  She would be busy in the kitchen cooking a batch of her fresh fried apple fritters. Yum! Yum! They were always a treat to enjoy especially when they came out of the old, deep iron skillet piping hot.

Nowadays, I settle for eating apples sliced with a dash of cinnamon, but every now and then I will treat myself to something special.

Cinnamon- Sugar Apples Recipe

Combine 1/4 cup of sugar and 2 teaspoons of cinnamon. Set Aside. Core, peel and slice 2 -3 apples into wedges and sprinkle with cinnamon- Sugar mixture. Microwave in a microwavable safe dish on high setting until tender. Serve.

๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ

Before you leave, may I show you the new apple design I am working on?

It is called Apple Jam Jar from the Mason Jar Series.  Three large apples jammed into a jar.

I have just begun it and have not decided on the colors that I will use.

So I thought I would share it as a CHOOSE YOUR OWN COLORS CHART. Use as many or as few colors as you want. In fact you might want to add some colors.

Hmmm... Should I have 3 red apples or mix it up with red, yellow, and green apples? I am not sure, but I will keep you posted on my progress and I will update this post once it is completed.

Gingerbread and Autumn Beginnings- A Fall Freebie

It feels so so good to be back into the sewing room.

Over the week , I sat down with a bunch of 2 1/2" scraps that I previously cut...

And worked on blocks for Melva's Sew Along called Lala's Irish Chain SAL.

12 perfectly imperfect blocks pieced and a few more to go.  ( Don't look too carefully at my seams; I was off my game on this particular day. )

I am still waiting on a fabric order . A jelly roll awaits me to use for this quilt.  So I  am waiting on pins and needles. Hee! Hee!

Meanwhile, I picked up this bundle of fabrics for a $1.00 at a yard sale. Soon they will be whittled down into 2 1/2" strips.
Aren't they scrumptious?

Excuse me a minute, while I do a Happy Jig for I have a finish!  ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿ’ƒ

The blocks are framed with 2" finished squares.

Yee Haw! Roll and Bake has its final borders.

I added 4" borders.

With four patches as corner blocks made of 2 1/2" squares (unfinished).
The photos are making the corner blocks look lighter than they are. ๐Ÿ˜ Oh well...๐Ÿ˜€

Christmas fabric from the thrift store will make a perfect backing for Roll and Bake.

Backing fabric for Roll  and Bake.

A new stitch is in the works, and  it is called Autumn Beginnings .

UPDATE:  August 21, 2026
Autumn Blessings is now finished. ๐ŸŒป
These are the DMC  floss colors that I used for "Autumn Beginnings"  .
FLOSS  : SYMBOL  MOTIF:
DMC 610 ( U and T)       Border and pumpkin stem
DMC  782 ( Y)  Sunflower
DMC 3781 ( • )  Sunflower center
DMC 301 ( O) Pumpkin
DMC 919 (X) Pumpkin lines
DMC 730 ( G) Sunflowers stem and pumpkin leaf

Seeing Vicki's latest posts at Vicki's Crafts and Quilting certainly has got me in the fall mood. Did you see her gorgeous Maple Leaf quilt   and her Orange Pineapple and Stick and Stones quilts? Adorable!  Hmmm... I need to make a Stick and Stones.

Anywhoo.... Autumn Beginnings is just a simple stitch to wet my appetite for more fall stitching.  If all goes well, "Autumn Beginnings" should stitch up in two shakes of a lamb's tail.

Autumn Blessings is a CHOOSE YOUR OWN COLORS chart. I will be stitching it in muted colors and will certainly update this post in the future with my floss colors and finish.

Dreaming of Turkey and The Maize House - A Fall Freebie

The countdown is on! 14 more days until Thanksgiving- the most glorious holiday to give thanks for all the blessings in our lives and of course  to indulge and gobble till we wobble !

Oh boy,  I just cannot wait for Mom's homemade cornbread dressing and the turkey breasts that she will roast.  And I must not forget all of the delectable  desserts that will grace the table. Hmmm, ๐Ÿค” I better start my diet a little early so I can have an extra helping of dressing. Hee! Hee!

Gobble Gobble

Sooo... I have started to prepare a menu for Thanksgiving. Mom used to make EVERYTHING!  But nowadays I give a helping hand along with my sister .

What am I planning to take? Well here is my preliminary  list of yummies. These are some family faves.  I will provide a colored link for any recipes that I have shared in the past.

 Cranberry Marshmallow Salad

Over the Top Green Bean Caserole

Candied Yams

Nanny's Cornbread Salad

Slow Cooker Ranch Mushrooms

5 Bean Salad

Potato Salad

Stuffed Celery

Cream Cheese Corn

Pumpkin Pie

Pecan Pie

No Bake Snickers Pie

Image from Pinterest.

I am still pouring over recipe books for something new to bring.  Do you have any suggestions?

There will be about 18 of us if everyone attends.  After we eat dinner, Mr. Pinker and "our crew" will truck on down the road  for a late night supper with his side of the  family. We will bring in tow sides for there too. It is going to be one grand day !

Did you notice my little house ? It is hot off the presses and finishing table and is called The Maize House

It is another grand but simple house flanked by cornstalks. The roof is adorned with a bountiful basket or maize just perfect for cooking for the holidays.

There are only 6 colors used in this little ole' house. I am consciously trying to use as few colors as possible in some of my houses. Anywhooo... The Maize House is stitched on 14 count Aida that is coffee/ tea dyed.

I used DMC floss colors :  422, 610, 844, 936, 3011, 3820.

 SYMBOL       FLOSS COLOR

      l 422 Light Hazelnut Brown

X   610 DK Drab Brown

844 Ultra DK Beaver Gray

O 936 VY DK Avocado Green

U 3011 DK Khaki Green

Y 3820 DK Straw

I thought I would give you a break down on where the colors are.

BASKET of CORN: DMC 610, 3011, 3820
CORN: DMC  3011, 3820
HOUSE: 422, 936 ( roof , window & door frames, quilt border), 610 (door)
QUILT ON HOUSE: 610 936, 3011
GROUND: 844, 3820
LETTERS/ DATE: 844
DOOHICKEYS : 610

I outlined my house in DMC 936 as an afterthought to make the house pop on my coffee fabric. I did not chart this.

If you are interested in stitching this piece, you can find the letters for the initials in The Maize Basket Sampler which I shared last week.

Alright , Sweetness, I better get off here. I have recipe books to sift through and grocery lists to make. Like I said the countdown is on!

Now tell me are you dreaming of turkey, ham and all of the trimmings?

Have an awesome day!

As Always...
