It's A Finish

 Eeeeh! It's a finish! It's a finish!  💃💃💃

Welcome, y'all and Happy Happy Thursday. I know it is wee, but I  sure am happy to have a finish with this winter quilt. 

I began working on this little quilt by Bunny Hill Designs in December.  

It is called A Merry  Little Christmas and is a free design. 

I changed the words to " A Very Merry Winter. 

It is machine pieced. Hand appliqued and quilted. 

I hope this little fella doesn't melt in the warm sun. "You will be back in colder weather soon little guy." Hee! Hee! 

 I just wanted to pop in to show you my latest wall hanging. Thank you so much for taking the time to take a gander. Have a beautiful day, Sweeties.

Snowman Sunday

A very Happy Slow Stitching  Sunday to you! Have you pulled out a project to work on today?  I certainly have mine raring to go. 

 It is my Flurry & Flakes embroidered quilt that I shared last month.  I do think it will be the perfect winter project and perhaps by the end of the month, I can display it in my hall of snowmen.

 

During the winter time , sweet roly poly snowmen come to visit my house and reside in the small foyer.

 My wee year raggedy tree is decorated with red and white mittens and a little toboggan.   By mid month, it looks a little bedraggled. 😁

Snowmen quilts are draped over the old thrifted shutters. 

My favorite is my Coopie Snowman quilt that I made years ago .I drew out snowmen for my nephew as coloring sheets . I am still on the search for those patterns. 

Country snowmen adorn the shelf. 

Have you ever seen the Country Register flyer at rest stops? Well I found this one years ago and loved the cover graphics so I  framed it? 

Snowmen quilts also are on all of the doors. 

          

I do believe Flurry & Flakes will be quite at home in the foyer once it is complete . The only problem is trying to figure out where the little guys will go among all of the country clutter.

 

Let me show you some of the stitches that I will continue with this week and what I have accomplished. 

 On Merry Monday, I spent a few minutes on a Christmas stitch. 

 I also began a new basket stitch. It is going to be filled with sweetness for Valentine's . 

 

DOLLAR TREE ALERT!!!!!!

 Last night Mr. Pinker and I went to the Dollar Tree in a neighboring county. Can you believe it? They have Easter already out!!! Of course I was inclined to purchase a few goodies. Look at these adorable  flocked bunnies and carrot bottle  brush tree. They were just $3.00 a piece. 

To give you an idea on size here they are by my Pioneer Woman cake stand. 

The carrot tree is 17.5 inches tall while the bunnies are up to 9 1/2" tall.  They just had a few of them so I snatched them up while I was there.   

 

I bet some of you already know where that bottle brush tree is going- remember my carrot obsession of Spring 2022.  😃😳🥕🥕🥕🥕 I know some of you tried to organize an carrot intervention  but to no avail. 😃😀😂

 

It's To Do List Time!!

LAST WEEK' S GOALS.

✅1. Quilt 9 more blocks in Grandma's Love quilt . So far, I have quilted 7 but I will finish 2 more today. 

✅2. Fully finish a cross stitch. 

✅3. Still packing away Christmas. - Yep, it takes me a long time. Lol. 

WHAT'S ON THE AGENDA THIS WEEK?

1.  Quilt 9 more blocks on Grandma's Love. Yes! I am bound and determined to complete it soon. 

2. Work on a new embroidery

3. Continue piecing churn dashes. 

4. Begin a new cross stitch.

Frosty Finish

 A fine Thursday to you my friends. It is actually a Thunder Thursday for me for it is raining cats and dogs. 

                             

  The other day , I realized that I had failed to show you my finished Frosty McChill quilt. 

If you are not familiar with Frosty, I hosted a Frosty McChill Sew Along last year over the course of several weeks.

The other day, I took the quilt out to the farm to take a few photos. 

This quilt has a lot of memories of 2022 stitched into it. Thank you to all of you who followed me, stitched along, and who gave me words of encouragement. 

Did you know that today is my embroidery day? - Embroidery Thursday!!! Woo! Hoo! 

It is a no stress stitch day for sure! 

 So I have a new little snowman drawn out ready to stitch.

Flurry & Flakes SAL Finishing the Quilt

Happy happy Thursday, my friends. Today is the day that I am finishing my Flurry & Flakes SAL .

 I am so grateful to all of you who have followed my progress, gave me kind words of encouragement and for those who have participated.  You are the best!!!

Last week, I shared with you the 4 alternate blocks that I am using to set my embroidered blocks with.  So are you ready to finish this baby up. Come on ! Let's do it! 

All our blocks are complete and now it is time to sew the embroidered blocks and pieced blocks together. 

 Let's lay the blocks out into a pleasing formation. Hmmm ! What do you think ?  Since this about a Snow family, how about let's put the Family Portrait block  in the center.  That looks pretty good. Don't you think? 

 Alrigthy! I will sew these babies up and then give them a good pressing. . Doesn't the pieced blocks  give the impression of sled tracks ?

Now it is time for the simple border.  I found a bit of black fabric in my stash. It is not wintery like I would like , but it will do. 

From your chosen  black border fabric  CUT 4 strips of  fabric 4 1/2" x 24 1/2"

 Last week we  made 4 extra  4 patches measuring 4 1/2" unfinished ; these will be our corner blocks. 

USING THE PHOTO AS A GUIDE , SEW THE BORDERS ONTO THE TOP USING 1/4" SEAM ALLOWANCE. 

WALLAH!!!  We are done. Woo Hoo ! Let's do the snowman happy dance !!⛄☃

The finished quilt will measure 32" x 32" . 

Flurry & Flakes will be going into the hoop soon.

Frosty McChill and Valentine Doodles

 Good Thursday, morning!! I can not believe Frosty is completed!! All the blocks have been wrestled into a top. 

 12 Frosty blocks in no particular order. Now to finish mine.

 I trimmed my blocks to 7 1/2" x 10 1/2" making sure that the embroidery work was not in the  1/4" seam allowance. The way that I trim mine is I find the center of the block . So for example if I need to remove 1 " from the width of the block , I would trim 1/2" from right and left edge. 

 Now if you find that all of your blocks are the same size and you do not want to trim them , then you certainly do not have to. If you are adding sashings and borders like I am , you would just have to adjust the size of the strips.  

This is the fabrics and measurements that I used to piece mine. 

After trimming, I cut out the fabrics I would need for my sashing and borders

FOR SASHING

For the corner squares : Cut 20 - 2 1/2" x 2 1/2"  ( white fabric)

For bottom/ top sashings : Cut 15 -  2 1/2" x 7 1/2"   ( red fabric)

For side sashings: Cut 16 -  2 1/2" x 10 1/2" ( red fabric) 

Layout blocks and sashing. 

Piece rows together using a 1/4" seam allowance. Press. 

OUTER BORDERS:

 I cut 5 strips of fabric for my outer border though I could have only used 4. The reason I cut 5 was because I was trying to match the design motif in the border fabric as best as possible.  You may want to wait about cutting the 5th strip until you piece together the left and right border to see if you have enough fabric cut already ( lol I'm thrifty like that) . 

For corner blocks- Cut 4 - 4 1/2" x 4 1/2"  ( white fabric) 

For borders- Cut 4 -  4 1/2" x WOF (width of fabric) (red patterned fabric) 

Subcut 2 strips to  4 1/2" x 29 1/2" ( top and bottom border) 

Now we are going to prepare the right and left borders. 

From the leftover fabric from the subcut  of the top/bottom border , piece to the  2 remaining  4 1/2 x WOF  strips . 

Subcut those 2 strips  to  41/2" x 50 1/2"  for the left and right border  .  

Layout corner blocks , border and pieced quilt  ( like photo below)  Piece together. 

And Frosty is now a completed top. On to the quilting!!! Woo Hoo! 

Today  I will be looking for some backing fabric ,and hopefully soon this guy will be going into  a hoop. 

Meanwhile, I plan on working on some embroidered Valentine's today.

 Two have been stitched. I still have to figure out how to complete them. Some ideas are brewing.
