Nine Patches, Turkeys and Gingerbread- A Christmas Trifle Freebie

A wonderful Wednesday, to you dear friends. 

On Monday, Darlene @darlenedeondesigns on Instagram and  Flosstube, announced  a Nine Patch Sew Along on her Instagram account.  A wee nine patch a day - oh yes, that is doable! ( All of the information is on her IG account) .

 Immediately, I was ready to join in so I grabbed a few fabrics and went to town cutting strips of fabrics. After cutting the strips into squares, I whipped up 7 nine patches ( I sewed 4 extra since I will be gone Thursday - Sunday).  Thank you, Darlene for a fun project to work on over the next year. 

Doesn't every sewing room need a sewing mouse?  Look at my cute as a button pincushion- a fancy little mouse with a pin cap. ❤🐭

 

I finished my little Autumn Turkey Four Patch Quilt. 

This quilt has nine 4" four patches. The yellow turkey fabric was a gift from the big stash of fabrics that my nephew gifted me. 

 I quilted 1/4" from the seams and in the border, I used a swirl quilting design.  

Autumn Turkey Four Patch measures 22"square.  I think it looks so yummy on my old mustard yellow Hoosier top. 

 Hmmm, I think I need a Christmas 4 patch. What do you think? 

I pulled out a lot of my Barnyard Christmas ornaments yesterday. All of these happy stitches will soon be loaded up on to the tree.  

Can I interest you in a cookie? My newest trifle is a wee gingerbread man.  Doesn't it look like a sweet stamped sugar cookie? 

Gingerbread Trifle  is a tee tiny stitch that measures a little over an inch on 14 count aida. Using 2 strands of red  floss, I tied a teeny bow and attached it to his neck. 

 I use my little trifles as scissor fobs, ornaments or I just tuck in them here and there. I am hoping to add another Christmas trifle to my collection next week. Fingers crossed.

It's A Wrap and A Christmas Trifle Freebie

Well hello, there Snow Bunnies!  

I know you are wondering how can she be thinking of snow when it is still raining leaves! Well I hope I get a pass for jumping into the next season because  Eeeh! I just finished Flurry & Flakes !!! 

Last year I shared Flurry & Flakes  as an embroidery SAL for the winter. This quilt followed the adventures of the Flake family and a small cardinal named Flurry. 

 I quilted a cross hatch in the embroidered blocks and I quilted 1/4" around the pieced blocks.  The finished quilt measures 32" x 32". 

Oooh let's take a closer look at the blocks shall we. 

Mr. Flake loves A Blustery Day . 

Winter Welcome  saw Mr. Flake welcoming the winter season. 

Mrs. Flake and Little Flake enjoyed a Snow Day in one block.  

Mr. Flake was off to the races in Snow Race.

The Flake family still have more adventures to be had, but they may have to wait until next year because a new embroidery SAL is coming up called Mr. Snow. It  will be another snowman embroidered quilt  which  I  will be sharing on Thursdays starting November 2nd. 

Right now I am starting out with the just a few simple supplies: my embroidery hoop, scissors, needle , crayons,  embroidery floss and 1 1/2 yards of white fabric which I will cut the 12 blocks to embroider on ( The unfinished  block size will be 7 1/2" x 10 1/2" ; the same size blocks that I used in the Frosty McChill quilt; I will cut my blocks a little larger and later trim) . 

More information will be posted on the 2nd of November so I do hope you pop in for a visit and perhaps you may want to join in. 

How about a cookie?  This is my newest trifle- Sweeping Snowman Trifle. Doesn't it look like a sugar cookie? 

  It has been a few moons that I have posted a trifle.  ( Thank you Lisa for the sweet inspiration. 🤗) 

 The trifles are itty bitty stitches where I use up scrap pieces of fabric. The finished design usually measure about 1 3/8" x 1 3/8" which is a perfect size for an ornament, gift tag or scissor fob.  I hope to make a number of new holiday trifles for the winter season.

Candy Corn , Pumpkins and a Little Trifle

 Woo Hoo! It is finished! Well at least the embroidery. Happy Thursday, my friends. I finished my the embroidery work that I was working on last week !!!!  Now all it needs is a good pressing and for me to figure out how I want to fully finish it.

 Speaking of fall finishes. I wanted to show you the amazing Fall banner that dear Patricia made for me. Isn't it stinking cute?!!! 

                         

 I knew exactly where I wanted to put it. Draped on my rail fence quilt top that I pieced years ago. The quilt top comes out each fall just to snicker and snide at me for not quilting it , but I still display her anyway. She will receive her quilting one day. Lol. Right now Mrs. Rail Fence quilt top is so happy to be sporting the Fall banner. Thank you dear Patricia. Hugs ❤🤗 

Yesterday I shared my Candy Corn House. I thought it was a cutie patootie  house. - well at least I would live in it if I could. 

Today I wanted to show you my Candy Corn wall hanging that I created with scraps of clothing and Halloween fabrics. 

Super quick quilt for the holiday season.  

It has been awhile since I shared a trifle. This is an itty bitty stitch and is my 1st Halloween trifle. It reminds me of a little sugar cookie. This one is called A Little Jack Trifle and is teeny.

Stitching Kindness, Summer Days and a Bee Trifle

Good evening, ya'll  and Happy Thursday. Mr. Pinker and I made it to our camping spot on the lake. Same spot as before. 

Yep, there is the big ole' log right below our site.

 Today I spent a few hours going to some of my favorite thrift stores. I will show you my wee haul in a future post when I get home. Afterwards, we have been lounging at the campsite. It is a lot quieter than it was in May when we were here. 

Well anywhoo! I thought I would share some of the projects that I brought along to keep my busy.

My Summer Days Quilt is coming along. 

Before you look at my quilt photo, get on your galloping horse as you view it. 🐎🏇👀🙫  . I am hoping that if you are riding ole' Trixie that you will miss that points are cut off , or seams do not meet. But hey, I am ok with that. 

All the blocks are pieced, and now to find border fabric. 

This quilt will get a good pressing when I get home.  

It was a bit windy for photos, but I thought I would try. 

I will certainly take better photos when  I am home.

Now that I have the blocks pieced , I regret that I did not add a camper to the mix. Well I guess that means that in the future there needs to be a Summer Days Quilt #2 . Don't you? Lol. 

Weeks ago,   dear Barbara told me about Susan Ache's free Stitching Kindness SAL. I had to hop over to the Auribuzz website to get a gander.

  I became quite smitten as soon as I saw Susan's quilt which is  in pretty reds and whites . 

Before Mr. Pinker and I left on our June vacation, I printed off weeks' 1 & 2 patterns.  One evening while camping at Big Ridge State Park, I traced out the cutting lines and words and made an afternoon of stitching as Mr. Pinker fished. Over the last few weeks, I have been finishing up the embroidery.  I am using 2 strands of DMC 498 using the back stitch. Stitching on this fabric is like stitching through butter. 

So Sorry for the poor photo . This was taken in the evening. 

If you hop over to the Auribuzz website, you will also see other stitchers' progress. I have seen these lovely words stitched in blues and other colors. So pretty!

Before you leave, I would love to leave you with a teeny trifle of a stitch. This is Bee Skep Trifle. I have it hanging on my Summer Sunflower tree which I shared last week.  

 Do any of ya'll remember those vintage silk Christmas balls? The yellow ones were perfect for my sunflower tree. 

Ok,  I digress. Back to the stitch. I had to add a bee skep to my trifle collection.  Now this trifle is teeny with a design size around 19 x 21. Not big at all, but that does make for a quick stitch.

This is a "Choose your Own Colors" chart , but if you are interested  I used DMC 975  ( for the bench) , 781, 433, 3371 , 3346.

Nifty Thrifties and a Small Trifle

Before I begin, Let me do some house keeping . I have an OOPS. Yesterday I posted Bunny Jar. If you printed the instruction page before 11:45 p.m. on that day I made some mistakes. They are all corrected now, but if you go back to the post you will see what mistake I made so you can correct it on your printed version or you can print the corrected page. I am so sorry.  Now back to the program. LOL. 

 Happy Hump Day, ya'll. Hope you are having a fine and dandy day. Well,  whatcha got on the agenda for this beautiful spring day?  I am going to be knee deep in dirt. Yep! I want to put on  my gardening boots,  plop on a big floppy hat and play in the garden. 

Dad plowed up a garden spot for me to work in. 

Mr. Pinker needs to till the dirt and  I have bean boxes to clean. 

Sunday night , I told Mr . Pinker , "I have a hankering to go to Alabama. I have got thriftin' on my mind. " 

Mr. Pinker smiled politely , "Choose a day" 

"My days are wiiiiiide open," I told him. "Let's hit the road tomorrow." And so we did.

 It was a rainy day, but boy did I find gold at the end of that rainbow. I hit all of my favorite honey holes. At  one stop I found a vintage book , a tin advertising box and a precious pepper shaker .  

            

We then went to  my favorite honey hole. Mr. Pinker went on his merrily way searching for fishing or manly things, but I was skipping like a kid as I went from one booth to the next looking at vintage bowls, quilts, and antiques. Right off I spied a few things that I wanted , but nothing jumped into my cart until......... Mr. Pinker came up to me and said, "I'm going to the car. Take your time. "      

 And then I was unleashed . I skipped down the aisles like a kid in a candy shop and then made a beeline  to an aisle that I knew had vintage textiles 2 months ago. Jackpot!!!! Yes! There was a quilt right in my price range ( You  know my price range - as low as you can go prices-  They do  call me Mrs. El -Cheapo" lol. ) 

Any whoo. I grabbed an old feedsack quilt. It was weathered , battered and worn- just the way I like them - well loved. 

 I then found 2 quilt tops ; they were full of scrappy goodness . I love it when a quilter uses what she has.  One went into the cart. 

Next I found this ginormous American flag for just $2. I had to have it.  (Now I know you are wondering where in the world is she going to hang that. Lol I don't know but doesn't look like the size you would see at a car dealership. )

" I think I have done good." I thought.  So I did my little happy jig in the middle of the aisle  as one elderly gentlemen looked at me like I had lost my marbles. I just shrugged my shoulders  and proceeded  merrily to the cash register. 

But guess what happened?   As the cashier rang up each item she said. "This is 1/2 off and this is 25 % off and...... "  

Wait a minute- Was my ears deceiving me?  I had to ask. "How can I figure out if something is discounted? " She told me to look at the date as to when it was put on the floor on the bar code and that determines the discount. 

"HOLD THE PHONE", I said. "This gal is not finished shopping!" 🛒

The sweet cashier said "Sure , I can hold all this back as your shop". And at that instant I took off like a bat out of you know where and as I ran I almost made a detour to   the store speaker to make an announcement that  ALL SHOPPERS NEEDED TO CLEAR AISLE 7 , but I was good and restrained myself. 🛒

Now you might  , remember there was a quilt top I left behind. Lol So I went back down the aisle and found 2 quilts tops and then .....

I rounded another aisle and I swear there was a beam of light glowing on the purtiest child's 1950's sewing machine, and I about passed out when I saw that it was going to ring up 1/2 price. 

With a hop ,skip and a jump I rushed those items up to the cash register and when I was told they were discounted too , I actually started break dancing right in the middle of the store. 🕺💃🕺💃Lol. Yes ! I was that excited.

 When I got out to the car, Mr. Pinker was on the phone, but he smiled sweetly and started to shake his head. When he got off he said ," You sure made a haul." 

"Oh yes, I did! " Lol. 

I will share other thrifty finds I found in future posts, but it was a fabulous day. 

I wanted to leave you with another little trifle. I took wee little Buford from A Basket of Spring and gave him a little bow. He will be enjoying his days on display for few weeks. Now you know how those bunnies multiply ,but I promise this will be the last bunny stitch for awhile. Lol. 🐰🐇🐰🐇
