Piecing Pretty Pinks

Hello, Sunshine and welcome from the vast wide yonder. Two posts in a day?  Aaah why not!
Happy Friday, y'all ! Are you ready for a fantastic weekend? I sure am. I have not made any concrete  plans yet, but I am sure I can find something to get into. 😀

The other day Mr. Pinker and I went hiking. Do you see our side by side in the photo below? Maybe not for it is a teeny tiny spot. On that particular day, I had a burst of energy and walked the ridge almost to the top of a mountain.

Oh bother, there was dust on debris on the camera lens. I am sorry about that. It was a blustery day. 🌬🌬🌬
The orange stake is a mining claim maker.

I have been on a mission to find a perfect saguaro in our camping area. They have been few and far between in my neck of the desert, but I did find this magnificent one.

And the base was just perfect to use as a design wall, Hee! Hee.  Earlier at camp, I pieced four pretty in pink blocks for Angela's Rainbow Scrap Challenge.

Most of the saguaros here look like this poor fella. Windblown, chewed on and holey.  Hmm, what tales this cactus could tell if it could only speak. 🏜🌵🌵🌵

Anywhoo, The center square in my block is 6" finished and is framed with 3" finished squares. I was going to call this quilt "Here We Go Again", but I am thinking of adding some applique to the center. If so, I will change the name. We shall see.

Being in this dry environment has my skin feeling as dry as a lizard.  The other day, I spotted the Dove  body scrub  with pomegranate and Shea butter  in the grocery store. I have never tried it before . Have you? I must say it smells heavenly, and look -- it is in a little pink container- just perfect for PINK FRIDAY.

I am still plugging away on Lori Holt's "Home for the Holiday Sampler, which was a sweet gift from my dear friend, Joan. Hi, Joan!  I am loving this sampler. 😘 Thank you!

I am stitching it on 14 count coffee/ tea dyed Aida. Right now I am focused on stitching the red letters.

Well Sweeties, I hope I have not chatted your ears off. I guess I better run. Have a pinkalicious day and I hope it is filled with adventures and mischief. Love ya!

We have seen a lot of Gambel's quail this trip. They are as cute as a button!. Look at this little fella!

As Always,

Happy  Stitching and Quilting, y'all

I Heart the Desert!

♭♮♭"My heart's tonight in Texas though I'm far across the sea,

The band is playing Dixie and there's where I long to be." ♮♭♮

Oh, I do love Texas, but right now my heart is a little further west.  💓💓💓 For I trucked on down the road and made it to a little secluded desert camp where lots of stitching is taking place.

I finished "Santa With A Tree" from Prairie Schooler- A Merry Mini Surprise

A lovely sunny day to you, Sweet friends. Welcome.  How are you doing on this fine winter day?  Me? Well I am fine and dandy.

Are you participating in Angela at So Scrappy's RSC 2025 challenge. I try to participate each year, but fall short of completing my quilts.  You know me- I get distracted by any happy handsome squirrel that comes my way.

Anywhoo, I am trying to meet the challenge this year ; in fact, I meant to post this on Friday, but I was out galavanting around. Hee! Hee!

The first project- "My Heart Quilt".    I only  have a few pink fabrics to work with so  I gathered a few and cut out some little hearts to applique.

"Where are you going ? " asked Mr. Pinker as I walked away from the camper. "

I am going down there to take photos of my heart blocks."

"How are you getting down there?", he asked .

"Oh, I already have my path scouted out . "

I quickly walked down a less steep embankment to a sandy wash to spread out my heart blocks.

These do need a good pressing , but that will have to wait.

There is not much variety in the fabrics so far. But alas, this is what I have to work with. I will add a few different colored pinks in my next appliques.

This is one of my camping projects that I enjoyed working on last year as well.

Progress in January 2024

I decided that I need around 18 hearts of each color or thereabouts. Just a few more pink heart to applique, and then I will  sit this project aside until next month.

As I surveyed my pink blocks, Mr. Pinker came down the embankment . "Nice looking hearts.  Do you want to explore this area?"

"Now you know I am always up for an adventure!" , I  said with a smile.  I quickly gathered my hearts and stuffed them in my bag.

Mr. Pinker and I enjoyed walking among the desert plants and looking at all of the critter holes and dens. "Anyone in there?" Thank goodness no critters crept out.

We saw a number of footprints in the sand. I am not sure what critter made these prints. Do you?

We had a critter visit the outside of our camper and get into the garbage sack the other night. Thankfully , not much was in there and Mr. Pinker was able to clean it up lickety split. We did move the camping bag up to the truck camper ladder so nothing could get in it.

After walking for a bit, we made our way back to camp. I was delighted to see a darling hummingbird visiting my feeder.

I sat down and watched the little hummer as I stitched on my individual Winter stamp borders.

Well, Sweeties, that is what is going on here? Quilting, stitching and a whole lot of nothing! Hee! Hee!

Have an awesome day!

 As always...

Happy  Stitching and Quilting, y'all

Barbies, Auntie and The Pink House - A House Freebie

Happy, Happy Barbie Day!

Did you know it was National Barbie Day? I sure didn't until I saw it on the world  wide web!

Were you a Barbie girl growing up?  I loved dolls -Barbie included.  Did you have a favorite Barbie? Mine was Pretty in Pink and who can forget Western Barbie.  I had only one Ken . Don't tell anyone , but he would often lose his head. 😳😜

Image from Pinterest.

We only received 1 Barbie a year; maybe two if we were lucky. Our cousin  had a lot of Barbies and even had the  Barbie double carrying  case filled with a fold out bed and a wardrobe which was filled with  shoes and fancy dresses.

My vintage Barbie case and little pink sewing machine.

Sis and I had the single Barbie case. Mom would sit at her Sears Kenmore sewing machine and whip us little dresses for our shoeless gals. We were always so excited to see what would Barbie  be sporting once her seamstress aka Mom finished her newest fashionable outfit.  We would tuck the dresses safely in our cases along with our Barbies.

Every Christmas I would ask Santa for a Barbie Dream House alas I guess it could not fit on Santa's sleigh because I never got one. Well not until my daughters were born. Hee! Hee ! And then I bought me I mean them a Barbie Dream House.

Speaking of Dream Houses, I thought today would be the perfect day to share my newest house stitch called The Pink House.

Many of y'all know that every year , I stitch a pink house in honor of my Great Aunt Dot who was like a 3rd grandmother to me. She lived in a small rural community where our family settled in the early 1800's . There she worked as the post mistress in the small rock post office right in the middle of the community.   Her home was straight behind the post office and each morning she would walk across the lawn , go through the gate and begin her day.

Great Aunt  and my dear Nanny as children

I guess Dot Dot would have been considered an Old Maid during her time for she never dated nor married. She was content working hard, visiting family and friends and being a wanderlust when time would allow.

Her home was always so warm and cozy with lots of pretty china plates, delicate glassware  and treasures that she accumulated from her travels around the world. Her favorite color was the color  pink. Her bedroom was decorated in soft pink drapes and  lovely delicate chenille bedspread. At night, she would sit in bed and work on crosswords before she drifted into slumberland.  Oh, I do miss her so. In her own way , she was a "Barbie" girl!  Independent ,  Adventuresome and of course, she  loved PINK!

Last year, I shared  "A Cold Winter's Day- Dot's Saltbox" . It is in the soft shade of pink that Dot Dot adored.

In 2022, I shared Love Grows Here. The little key reminded me of the keys that Dot Dot  had for the post boxes.

 In 2021 , I shared Dorothy Mae's Spring House

This year's home is a "Barbie Pink" house. Perhaps not  the shade that Dot Dot would have preferred, but I think she would like it nonetheless.  A  grand single rose grows beside the house. Dot Dot did not have time for gardening, but she admired the beauty of roses .

As I was stitching this pink house I thought how lovely it would be stitched in white or perhaps another color. It certainly does not have to be pink .

There are 9 DMC floss colors in this piece which include 223, 730, 731, 840, 842, 844, 938, 3685, and 3687.

If you are interested in stitching this piece,  just grab , the images. For printing tips, refer to the post Tips for Printing which has loads of tips from my sweet friends.

SOME AUNTS ARE VERY SPECIAL
"Some Aunts have that special touch ,
they put your cares at ease.
They know what to say and do,
to comfort and to please.
They're kind and very thoughtful;
they're quick to understand.
Whenever someone needs them,
they lend a helping hand.
Our world is such a better place,
and happier by far,
because there are some precious Aunts
as special as you are."

Well , Sweeties, I have chatted your ears off long enough. Please forgive me for being so long winded as I skipped  and rambled all the way  down memory lane .   I am so grateful that you dropped by for a sweet Saturday visit.

As always...

Happy  Stitching and Quilting, y'all

Just a Quilting Along

Fabrics are pulled !!! I have been pulling some fabrics for Barbara Brackman's QAL.

Welcome, ya'll. Is this pink as pretty as a posy?  I sure think so.

I pulled it  to use in Barbara's Atlanta Garden Quilt. Block # 2 Grandmother's Choice  was posted on Feb. 8, 2023 .  Barbara gives you the measurements to make the choice of 2 sizes. I am creating 10" blocks.

Such a lovely block.

Block #1  in the Atlanta Garden Quilt is called  Garden of Eden.

Earlier this month, Kathleen Tracy of  A Sentimental Quilter hosted a free Valentine's QAL in 3 easy steps. The end result was a darling quilt called Love Letters.

I am quite smitten over the sweet envelopes.  It was such a joy that Kathleen broke  down the steps over a few days; it felt like I was piecing along with her. 🤗  As of right now , it is still available on her blog , the final step was posted in her Feb. 6, 2023 post.  This will be going in the hoop soon.

I have a few farm doodles for you.

Luv Ewe , Luv Chick,  and Luv Moo were stitched in  2021. I usually pull them out in February and leave them out as little bowl fillers until Fall. Some new additions will be quite nice. I will be working on them today.

Though it is not Thursday, I am still working on a bit of embroidery

I am dreaming of a new Embroidery Stitch Along. Last year I shared the Summer Days embroidered blocks over several weeks.

It was a slow paced enjoyable stitch for me .

I bought a couple of yards of white fabric for embroidery with some ideas in mind. Are you game for another one.

Let me give you a hint as to what I am thinking of embroidering.👇🐔

That's my Friday ramble! May your day be filled with blessings, love and all of the stitching and quilting your heart desires. Hugs and love and
