Prim Rudolph Ornament- A Christmas Freebie

May I tell you again how excited I am to have my Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer quilt finished? Lol! 

I shared my finish yesterday, and I am still over the moon. I think because it took so long.  Oh, and of course there is a lot of red in the quilt- you know me and my love affair with the color red!!!❤❤❤

Welcome, y'all and a very lovely Tuesday to you. 

Finishing this little quilt inspired me to create a quick stitch, called Prim Rudolph. 

Isn't the white plastic reindeer the cutest? It is from the Dollar General this year. 

 It is just a simple flying reindeer with some scattered snowflakes. A winter blizzard is Rudolph's favorite weather to fly in.

So let me tell you about my finish.  I bought this string of unfinished wooden snowflakes at the Dollar Tree this year. 

Because I have been into junk journaling here of late, I decided to do what my Nanny would say is "Messin' and Gommin". That means playing messily with paint,  glue ,  paper and even the glittery stuff.  Eeeh! I just love a bit of  sparkle!  

After stitching the piece , I drew out a circle on a piece of cardboard and added 2 layers of batting. I layered my cross stitch on top and using needle and thread gathered the stitch on the back . In order for my stitch to fit on the Dollar Tree snowflake, I lost some of my stitched snowflakes, but I was ok with that. 

Then I took off one of the snowflakes from my string and painted the snowflake white. After it dried thoroughly, I decoupaged a small section of Rudolph sheet music which I found as a freebie from Pam Kessler on her blog House of  Hawthornes.  In order to cut the holes into the paper of the snowflake, I pushed a toothpick through the front side of the covered wooden snowflake and smoothed it over on the back. It took some time and was sticky, but I sure do enjoy making a mess. 😁😀✨  Next, I  decided to add a little sparkle an sprinkled iridescent glitter on the snowflake.  Once everything was dry, I centered my Prim Rudolph in the center of the snowflake and adhered it. You can not see much of the music sheet, but it was all about the process for me. 

 Prim Rudolph is a "Choose your own colors " chart, but if you are interested I used DMC 610, 3371, Blanc and 815. The design size is 43 x 33 and if stitched on 14 count aida like mine it would measure around 3 1/8" x 2 3/8".

Tomorrow my youngest daughter will be arriving home for the holidays. 

I am very excited to have her home for the next few weeks! So today I will be refreshing her room , washing linens and such.  Well I am off to get some of those chores completed and then perhaps I can enjoy some stitching time in the afternoon.

 Good afternoon, Sweet Friends. Welcome.

 Are you about finished decorating for Christmas ? I am still decking the halls . I am sure I will be tweaking the displays and trees all the way till Santa and his nine sweet reindeer make their journey on Christmas Eve. Speaking of reindeer- Guess what? After 4 years of piddling away on my Rudolph Quilt, it is finally complete. 

This quilt is composed of 12 Puss in the Corner blocks featuring the bright nosed buck. In 2020 , I bought a nurse's scrub shirt from the Goodwill with Rudolph on it. I  immediately knew I wanted to cut it up and create a quilt.  

The rest of the fabrics are pieces that I had in my stash even the black and white gingham border which was a  full sized sheet that I cut into strips. 

There are 12 blocks measuring 10 inches. I added a 1" inner border and a 3" outer border.  Rudolph  measures 38" x 48". 

Being a lover of useless but interesting trivia, I gathered  a few facts about dear Rudolph. 

RUDOLPH FACTS:

1. In 1939, Robert L. May created the character Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer for Montgomery Ward in Chicago as a advertising gimmick . 

2. In the 1st year, Montgomery Ward gave away 2.4 million copies of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer coloring book. 

3.  Robert May's brother in law, Johnny Marks created the "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer "song based on the book . 

4. Gene Autry's recording of Rudolph hit  No. 1 on the charts Christmas week of 1949. 

5. In 1964 a television special was created for the beloved character. It has been telecast every year since then. 

The Rudolph quilt is hand quilted with spirals and swirls. 

 I used a cable design to quilt the outer border.   I used a tropical print for the binding because it had a lot of turquoise in it. 

Rudolph is all ready for the Christmas season! 

So what do you do when you finish one Rudolph quilt?  Well...... of course you start another one. 🦌🎅 

The fabrics have been chosen. 

And a block has been pieced.  The Rudolph fabric in this new quilt was a gift from dear Donna and in a previous life was a curtain .  I will be piecing more blocks this week. 

Now I have a question for you . Do you have a suggestion of another block to add to this Shoo Fly Rudolph block? I am thinking 5 Shoo Flys and 4 other blocks. I want red to be the main color in the next block.

About to Pop!

 Good evening, dear friends and  Merry Christmas.Did you have a blessed and joyous day? I sure hope so.

 Ok question: Are you sitting on the couch feeling as though you are going to pop?  Lol I do  ! 

The family gathered at my home for Christmas Eve. 

Lots of finger foods for hungry little bellies though the kiddos gravitated to the chicken nuggets and cookies. (Lol😃 those army men on the counter are not appetizers  Just a sign the little one has been through🧒).

 Today, we were off to mom's  where we stuffed our bellies with turkey and mom's good ole'country dressing. Of course  we had all of the traditional sides too like mashed taters, candied yams, mac and cheese and green bean casserole. Oh boy, what a feast!   

 So let's talk about crafting . Shall we?  For the last couple of weeks, I have been  trying to do a little crocheting. I say trying because I do not know what I am doing? lol , But I was inspired by my friend ,Connie . Sooo I jumped in with both feet and have been "trying" to crochet super cute dishclothes.

             

 Now I do not know if they withhold to being used, but I can decorate with them. I plan to finish my 2nd one tonight. 

 It has warmed up, and for the last couple of days,  it has been beautiful. 

I pulled out my Rudolph quilt and decided to do some porch quilting. Did I finish? Nope.

 I guess ole' Rudolph will be hanging in the hoop into 2022, but he may get some more stitches in this weekend.  

 I   have been working on Mary's Sampler  a freebie from Plum Street Sampler. 

In the background is one version of Mary's Sampler. 

My friend Patricia and I started this after Thanksgiving. I have been stitching this on Sundays and when I watch Days of Our Lives .  

You would think I would have stitched a lot more , but I am as slow as molasses when stitching on dark fabric. I won't point out all of the boos boos I have made, I do love how my blooms look . I blended DMC 304 with 355. 

Last night I tossed and turned. I was not able to sleep  a wink because every time I drifted into a quiet slumber I would start "dream quilting" . Do you do that -quilt in your sleep? There was nothing more to do than to sit up and make some quilting plans.  

I have been  thinking about 2022 's Rainbow Scrap Challenge with Angela at So Scrappy. I did not finish any of my 2021 RSC projects so they will continue on. They include my Chicken quilt

 and my Strawberry blocks.  

This was the 1st year I participated so I was not very focused. I am making a plan for 2022. I think I will be working on at least 2 applique projects and use some of my Depression era fabrics. Fingers crossed all will go well. 

Soon all of my Christmas decor will be coming down and snowmen will be taking Santa's place. 

            

Now I have a question or two  for you . 

When do you take down your Christmas tree? Do you change it up to a winter theme? 

                  

 By 4:30 today, Mom had her tree down and in the attic. 🎄😀😲

 I have to admit I do love all of the lights. So mine will stay up a little longer

The rest of the evening is going to be spent watching Christmas movies and working on some stitching. Have a wonderful and blessed weekend and thank you so much for the sweet visit, dears. As always...

Quilting, Stitching & Baking

 Good Sunday morning , friends.  Grab you a plate.   Fresh out of the oven is  Peanut Butter and Chocolate Chip Cookies. They are yummy!!!  Milk? Iced Tea?  

Have you seen these little dessert plates at the Dollar Tree? I couldn't resist getting a set of these. 

Pulled out my Barnyard Christmas ornaments this week. 

This week  is going to be  all about reindeer. Well one reindeer in particular. Sweet little Rudolph. 

Did you know that Rudolph is 57 years young ?  For Slow Stitching Sunday I am going to put in some handquilting on my Rudolph quilt that I started last year. Swirls and twirls throughout. 

                     

My friend, Patricia, and I are working on Plum Street's Sampler's "Mary's Sampler" which is a freebie.

 I dyed my fabric with Rit Charcoal Gray and Dark Brown. 

I stitched one version of Mary's Sampler a couple of years ago on tea/coffee dyed aida. I still love it. 

Well that's what I got going on this week on the quilting and stitching front. 

It is baking season here in the holler so I am baking up a storm.So let me share with you this little cookie recipe. It might be one you would like to include in a cookie exchange. 

PEANUT BUTTER AND CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES
YIELDS: 2 1/2 dozen

INGREDIENTS:

2 1/4 cup of all purpose flour

1 teaspoon of baking soda 

1 teaspoon of salt

1 cup of butter; softened

3/4 cup of sugar

3/4 cup of packed brown sugar

1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

2 large eggs

1 2/3 cups of peanut butter and milk chocolate morsels

1 cup of chopped nuts

DIRECTIONS:

1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

2. Combine flour, salt and baking soda in a small bowl. 

3. Beat butter, sugar, brown sugar and vanilla extract in a mixing bowl until creamy. 

4. Add eggs one at a time and beat. 

5. Gradually add in flour mixture.

6. Add morsels and nuts. Stir.

7. Drop by rounded tablespoons on ungreased cookie sheets.

8. Bake for 9-11 minutes until golden brown. 

9. Cool on baking sheets for 2 minutes ; then remove and place on wire racks to cool.

Enjoy !
