Margie the Christmas Horse- A Barnyard Christmas Freebie

Good morning ya'll. 

Look what has came out. All of my Barnyard Christmas ornaments. They make me so happy and bring back a lot of memories. ! 😍🤗 

 Last week you met Heart the Christmas Cow. 

My newest addition is called Margie the Christmas Horse. 

Years ago my youngest daughter begged for a horse. She and her best friend would ever so often go and ride horses at one of her friend's relatives. So Little Miss S. just had to have a horse. At the time horses around here were quite expensive. But my daughter's friend put us in touch with a nice lady who rescued horses. 

  One day , Mr. Pinker and Little Miss S. went to see all of horses. Of course Mr. Pinker had towed the cattle trailer just in case they found the perfect riding horse . Sure enough when they arrived back home, the trailer had a horse in it. 

     

 Little Miss S. gave her the name Margie . Margie was a sweety . In fact, she had been a fine horse in her day , but now she was very old,  and a little  on the thin side. We had the vet come look at her as well as a local horse expert , and they told us that despite being thin she was healthy and nothing was wrong with her. 

I was a bit perplexed as why Little Miss S. had to have her since she was so old and could not be ridden, but she fell in love with her  plus she was free. 😀😊🐎🏇🐴. So Margie found her home on the farm. Most of the days she lingered outside of   the pig barn  and occasionally  she would stroll down to one of the lower fields. Of course , Little Miss S. soon lost interest as most kids do and Miss Margie was ours to take care of , but that was ok with Mr . Pinker and I .  

Margie lived her final couple of years comfortably on our  little pig farm with all of the food she wanted  and deeply loved. So this humble little ornament is in honor of her.

Heart the Christmas Cow - Barnyard Christmas Freebie

 

Howdy , ya'll.  Grab your farm boots and let's head to the barn.  This is a barnyard post.

Can you pick out which one is named Ears? Lol . They are so cute! 

I am fully into Christmas stitching right now. Two years ago I began creating ornaments for my Barnyard Christmas  tree . 

This will be the 3rd Christmas in which I decorate with the farm theme. 

Here is my first year's Farm tree.

Last year I decided to buy a pencil tree. It was cute, but I could not get all of my ornaments on it and I just like a big over sized tree. 

This year the big tree will return to the living room, but the Barnyard ornaments will still be on the pencil tree in the hall.  I just may have to add some of them to a smaller tree as well. 

I have been working on some new additions to the tree.  Earlier this year, I fell in love with the way that Rakel on Instagram finished her Barnyard Ornaments. So I ended up copycatting her. I hope you do not mind, Rakel. Thank you so much for the inspiration.

One of my favorite cows that has been on the family farm was a cow named Heart. I wish I had a photo of her but alas I do not. Heart was born and grew up on the farm. She was  such a sweetie; we named her heart because she had a perfect heart shape right in the middle of her forehead.  Sadly, poor heart was struck by lightening two years ago. She is certainly missed.  So this ornament is dedicated to her and is called Heart the Christmas Cow . 

 Now Rakel found the cutest pack of wooden ornaments on Amazon - a pack of 50. Fortunately, I was able to find them and quickly put in an order for myself. I have been painting them with  Apple Barrel Barn Red paint that I bought at Walmart for under a dollar. I then used sand paper to remove some of the paint.  Dollar tree twine was used as a trim  and for the hanger.  The greenery was cut from an old Christmas wreath. I just added a bit of white paint to make it looked like it is flocked. The bow is a simple strip of homespun that I wrapped some green thread around. If I am lucky enough to find a teeny embellishment for the center of the bow, I will add it later. Rakel found some teeny pinecones for hers.

Farm Christmas Tree

Good morning. Woo Hoo! My farm tree is up! I have been working on ornaments for this tree since July.  My tree  is a little wonky and already leaning probably from the weight of all of the ornaments Lol. But it is up. Do you know what?  I have never had a new tree; I have always been the lucky recipient of family hand me downs which is fine with me. I received this tree from my brother a couple of years ago. 

I live in a small house so this  tree is lovingly placed in front of the window between the queen Anne chair which is from my great grandmother and a little wooden desk from about the 1950's . You get   a slight glimpse of my couch . Can you guess how old it is?  59 years old. Lol It is a hand me down from Mr. Pinker n Punkin's family. I have it slip covered with colors that I am attracted too. 

This is how my tree looked last year. It was in  the gingerbread theme. 
This year you can find all kinds of ornaments and decor in the gingerbread theme, but two years ago it was harder to find in my area so I made my own decorations. All of those gingerbread men and peppermints are made from Coca Cola cardboard boxes cut up and painted. It was thrifty  way to get a lot of cute ornaments. I decorated my tree in gingerbread in 2018 & 2019 so it was time for a change. 

 Now this year I used a variety of filler ornaments to go in with my Barnyard Christmas cross stitch series. I used a barn plaque from Walmart as the tree topper with a big red bow from the Dollar General.

I have a variety or ornaments all pilled on the tree.  The ornaments may not be hung perfectly straight , but that is ok.   I have to admit there is a lot to take in: I really love it to be crammed full. That is just my style. The Holestein cow ornaments were finds from Walmart this year. 

The cross stitch ornament is my Christmas Barn . 

At the Dollar General , I found buffalo checked ornaments and silver bells for $1.00. 

The barn ornaments were also from the Dollar General. They came in a white and a red .Dollar General also had the cute mason jar ornaments.  My daughter bought me the Farm Fresh Christmas Tree pillow on Black Friday. She is such a sweetie. 

I had a couple of Santas in my Barnyard Christmas series including "Santa's Visit" and "Santa on the Farm" . 

The Christmas Goat was one of my last ornaments of the Barnyard Christmas series. Isn't that the cutest Buffalo checked barn? 

The sweet little sheep ornament was called "Special Delivery". I enjoyed stitching this little piece.  I got the little milk can ornament at Dollar General.  Can you see a pattern here? I did a lot of Dollar General shopping- Lol. 

"Hanging the Star ' is a sweet little ornament . I love the slight tilt of the sheep's head. 

The first ornament in the series was called 'Chicken Sled" . It started the whole series and tree. 

Throughout the tree, are little paper chickens with handwritten words on them like "Bless the Farm", "Christmas Farm" and "Cluck , Cluck" etc. 

I have some little tobacco basket ornaments which I treasure. I found those at Walmart and how appropriate since I grew up on a tobacco farm. If you look carefully, you may see a Barnyard Christmas ornament that I did not post- it just did not make the cut. Lol.

I stitched the little sheep pillow last year. I believe it was a freebie. I made it in a little pillow and added a little buffalo checked ribbon and pine cone.  

 I used white spray paint to lightly coat pine cones from the farm to add to the tree. 

Below the tree is a little village including a farm scene.  Hanging above the barn is "Santa' Ride" . 

I was tickled to death to get this little barn this year. I have the village on an old lace tablecloth. 

This scene inside the barn  brings back fond childhood memories of milking old Blackie on our farm.

The Santa on the tractor was a Christmas ornament that I snipped the string hanger off. 

So that is my Farmhouse Christmas tree. I have to admit I did not decorate the back or the sides too heavily if those areas were not going to be seen.  The grandbabies have already started moving the ornaments around and playing with the village. It warms my heart to see their eyes sparkle with excitement when they look at the tree.

Farm Truck - Barnyard Christmas Freebie

No farm would be complete without 2 things- a farm truck and a farm dog. 

This little stitch  called "Farm Truck" is based on our farm truck . Yep! We have a red farm truck - not a vintage one, but an old truck that is used for farm purposes.It is dirty and smelly- yeah a regular farm truck .  My parents have an old farm truck too and it is red! Is that a requirement as a farmer?   I wish we had a vintage truck though.  

As a child , our family dog, Tiger,  used to ride along with us kids in the back of the truck as we went from field to field. About a week before Christmas, dad would go to the back field which we call "the bottoms"  and cut down a cedar tree.

 We would help drag it to the back of the truck. My sister and I  would hold the tree in the truck while Tiger usually opted to walk or run back home. We would then make our way home  to decorate the tree. Have you ever had a cedar Christmas tree?  The smell is wonderful, but it can be a bit prickly.  It was fun to decorate  the tree with popcorn, red balls and little wooden ornaments. Sometimes we would get tinsel and  blow it onto the tree which we thought was a lot of fun.

 Our tree never stayed up long. Mom was ready to have it gone by December 26th. So the day after Christmas, Tiger along with  the tree were loaded into the back of the truck; dad would then take the tree to "the bottoms" to dispose of it. 

"Farm Truck" is the 13th ornament in the Barnyard Christmas series. I designed these little stitches for my Christmas tree. I originally planned on 12 ornaments. I still have a couple of more in mind.  I may post more depending on when the tree goes up and how it looks. You know I like an overfilled tree. Lol.

I stitched 2 of these in an evening both on 14 count aida. One was stitched on coffee/tea dyed aida and the other on Rit Emerald Green aida. 

 The stitch is small and measures 31 x 31 which on 14 count aida that measures 2 1/4" x 2 1/4" . 

You can stitch this little farm truck too, just check out the pdf's below. Because I am not too tech savvy each page is on a separate pdf.  The pdf's may print out light - I do not have a professional set up on designing charts or the pdfs but I am working with what I have which is a good thing.
