It's a Very Scrappy Day

Scraps are pulled- handfuls of reds , pinks and greens.  Hmm! Now where are those pinks? 😀💗

Welcome , Sweeties ! Oh please grab a cup of tea or whatever strikes your fancy and let's head to the sewing room. 

Are you having a scrappy day? A scrappy day is always a very happy day for me! How about you? 

I thought today you could help me  sew up a few blocks.  It is another one of those EASY PEASY LEMON SQUEEZY BLOCKS and is loads of fun to  make.🍋🍓🍋🍓 You can twist and turn your fabrics to make each an every berry unique. 

 So come on ! Grab you a handful of scraps and let's get to sewing!   I need all of the help I can get! 

Please forgive me- I about forgot to show you my progress on Scrapberries. Last week  I finished the applique on Scrapberries , and it is now in the hoop . 

The quilting has commenced! I will share it as soon as a get another berry or two quilted.  

We will be making a Scrapberry block today. I revamped my berry by making it a little chunkier than my original. 

🍓🍓INSTRUCTIONS FOR ONE BLOCK 🍓🍓

FABRICS FOR ONE BLOCK

FROM WHITE FABRIC- Cut 1 10 1/2" x 10 1/2" ( unfinished square) 

VARIOUS RED, PINK SCRAPS measuring 1" to 9" long

VARIOUS GREEN SCRAPS measuring 1" to 6" long.

DIRECTIONS ( Use a 1/4" seam allowance) 

🧵1. I used a  8 1/2 square piece of  scrap paper to foundation piece my berries. 

🧵2. I usually start in the middle and sew two scraps to the paper. Press. 

Lay out strips on scrap paper and sew. 

Press 

🧵3. Continue sewing the red scraps until the paper is filled. 

🧵 4. I repeated the same procedure as in steps 1-3  for my green fabrics.

🧵5. I then used the  strawberry applique pattern and traced the design onto my red pieced scraps. 

For needleturn, I traced the berry design onto the fabric. 

🧵6. Since I will be using needleturn applique. I added a 1/4" turn under allowance and cut beyond my drawn line. 

The design is traced and the berry cut with a turn under allowance added. 

7. I then repeated Steps 5 & 6 for the green strawberry caps. 

8. Clip  a few snips in the fabric where the fabric curves inward on the caps for easy needleturn. 

🧵9. I gently removed the paper foundation .

🧵10. Now it is time to applique your berry onto your white 10 1/2" square fabric. 

 Center and pin the berry in place and applique using matching thread to the berry .

Center pieces and pin. 

🧵11. Pin the berry cap in place and applique it.  Press.

🧵12.  Woo Hoo Your Berry is complete! Do the happy dance! 

Now time for the pattern! If you would like a skinnier berry just draw your favorite strawberry.

Scrapberries measures 70" x 82". It has 30 blocks and is sashed with  2"x 10" finished strips ( 2 1/2" x 10 1/2" unfinished) 

Each block has a 2"finished ( 2 1/2" unfinished) green corner block.

 The red left/right outer borders measure 4" x 74" finished ( 4 1/2" x 74 1/2" unfinished) . 

The red upper and lower borders measure 4"x 62"finished ( 4 1/2" x 62 1/2" unfinished). 

 The  dark green cornerstone blocks measure 4" square (  4 1/2" unfinished).  

I hope these measurements are a help to anyone that wants to make a large quilt of their own. If you have any questions , just let me know.

Hen House and Chicken Scratch- A Couple of Chicken Freebies

Hey, all ya'll chicken lover's out there. Come on in and see my newest little additions to my chicken decor.

It's Hen House which I showed last week in my Hen House Hutch Tour!  If you missed that, pop over to see my hutch all decked out in lots of poultry.  

Lots of yardbirds are pecking about outside the henhouse. There are baskets of eggs, sunflowers and blooms- looks like the perfect summer day on the farm. Don't you think? 

 I stitched this piece in 2021 but did not finish it until last year when I put it into the fabulous chippy frame. To make it fit I sewed a red strip of fabric from my daughter's dress to the bottom of it.

Now I can not forget Chicken Scratch!  

This little wool applique has to be 10 years old.  I made it into a simple pillow and embroidered small x's in red and blue all about the pillow. I adore the mustard colored wool. I wish I had a lot more of it.  

If you would like this little doodle too, well just grab the image. I revamped the design since I created it years ago, and it is a little larger than my pillow. So you can enlarge or reduce it to whatever size you desire. I just stitched the x's willy nilly. 

Alrighty, Sweet Chickies, I am off to see what mischief I can get into. I hope you get into some yourself.  If you have the chance , pop by tomorrow - a new house is in the neighborhood and I would be so honored for you to see it.

"Get on Board with Sewing" - A Country Pineapple Quilt

Good morning, ya'll and welcome. Eeeh! I am so excited I am joining my first blog hop with Melva at Melva Loves Scraps an Brenda at Songbird Designs. They are  hosting "Get on Board with Sewing Blog Hop" in celebration of September being National Sewing month. All one had to do was have a sewing project that had the surf or tropical theme. 

Well for me, I just knew it would be a country project with a tropical feel . Hmmm . What says tropical but also has a country vibe?  Soon it came to me a Pineapple.  It represents warmth and hospitality.  Perfect! 

BE  A PINEAPPLE 

Stand tall. 

Wear a crown

And be sweet on the inside. 

I chose some country fabrics that I have had in my stash - some close to 20 years or more. Aren't those homespuns so yummy? 

From the red homespun, I cut the fabric 12"X 18 1/2" . I added two yellow border fabrics to the side measuring 2 1/2" x 18 1/2". 

From the green homespun, I cut 2 strips measuring 2 1/2" x 15 1/2". I sewed these strips to the top and bottom of the background piece. 

After a good pressing , I was ready to applique. 

I decide to needle turn applique my piece . So I traced my applique pieces , pinned them in place and went to town or should I say the beach😂. 

Soon my quilt was complete. 

Then it was  time for it  to go into a hoop. It did not take long to quilt and bind this piece. 

Now it is complete and ready to hang. 

I had to introduce my Country Pineapple to some of my Country Clutter . 

Earlier this year my mom bought a couple of pineapples at Walmart on sale. After reading on the internet that you could grow a pineapple plant from placing the top in the dirt, I thought I would give it a go. 

 

 I took the tops and plopped them in the dirt and each one is doing quite well and have  certainly grown.  Have you ever tried to grow your own pineapple? I would be interested to know  how it went.
