Tuesday Rambles

Hello, Sunshine! What's a cookin'?

Well today , Black Bean Chili  is on the menu in the old Pinker house.

Over the weekend, my oldest  daughter requested this as  her birthday meal . I thought I had prepared enough and perhaps would have leftovers, but only one bowl was leftover, and the sweet birthday girl took it home to enjoy for supper . Anywhoo, time to make it again; this time  for Mr. Pinker , myself and of course for you . πŸ€—

Some of the ingredients for Black Bean Chili.

This recipe can be adjusted to your liking.

BLACK BEAN CHILI

SERVES:

INGREDIENTS

2 lbs of ground beef

2 to 3 ( 16 oz) jars of favorite salsa

1 can of Rotel

1 small can of corn

2 cans of black beans, drained

1/2 cup of uncooked elbow macaroni

1 packet of chili seasoning mix

OPTIONAL TOPPINGS

sour cream

Jalapenos

shredded cheese

Frito corn chips

DIRECTIONS

1. Brown the ground beef and drain . Return meat to deep pan or pot.

2. Add the following to the ground beef: drained black beans, salsa, Rotel, drained can of corn  and a pack of chili seasoning ( I use 1/2 of the pack. Add it to your taste). Simmer.

3. In a small separate pot , cook the macaroni till Al dente.

4. Drain the pasta and add to the chili mixture. Stir in. Allow to simmer another 5 minutes.

5. Serve and Enjoy!  You may add toppings such as Frito corn chips, sour cream , Jalapenos, and shredded cheese.

DOLLAR GENERAL ALERT!!! - Mom and I  visited 3 Dollar Generals this past weekend and came home with a small haul. Mom had bought a blueberry basket  earlier last week ,  so I was on a mission to get one as well.

I came home with lots of blueberry goodness.  The glass pitcher holds 40 ounces and is heavy!  I bet you can already guess where I am going with the blueberries- Yep , blueberries on the hutch this summer! Sounds good to me- What do you think?

Dollar General also had these items in the strawberry  and lemon theme.   The yellow tumbler glasses are very nice. Mom bought the blue ones for just a dollar a piece- not bad.

Yesterday was a lazy day. I spent the day by the window stitching and watching the birds. This little fellow sat on the feeder for some time swaying in the wind.

I about jumped out of my skin when this lizard crept up beside my arm along the window ledge. I had the window open and did not want the little guy to come inside .  He enjoyed the warmth of the sun on the brick for a bit and then slithered on down to the ground. Wheew!  Thank goodness he wasn't a snake! I would have had a heart attack!

Five more days until St. Patrick's Day. My, this month is flying by.  Don't you think?

Puttin on the Green

So what are you going to be doing today? Anything special?  I am hoping to finish working on a bunny stitch to post as a freebie sometime this week , and then I will settle down to some quilting time.  In a few short days, Mr. Pinker and I will be leaving on a camping trip. So I do need to start packing. Oh well, I have rambled long enough.

Before you leave,  I want to thank you all for taking time out of your busy day to spend with me. It means more than you will ever know . You are the best!!! Thank you, Sweetie Pies!!!❤πŸ˜˜πŸ€—

As Always...

Happy  Stitching and Quilting, ya'll

A Tale and A Finish

Hello, Sunshine!!! Welcome!

A few days ago I was hustling and bustling about in my quilt room trying to find the perfect finishing  fabric to finish Luck Basket. I went through one bin after another with no luck in finding a deep green piece of fabric.  As I was about to give up on this finish, I saw a blur of green whisk by the door.

Slyly, I craned my neck out of the door and chimed, "Yoo Hoo, Honey Pie , can you come in the quilt room for a minute?  "

Within seconds, Mr. Pinker entered the room.   By this time, my wheels were already turning. Just as I expected  he was wearing that old green shirt that was old as the hills and had seen better days.  How could I get that shirt?  Should I snatch it  off of him or just  clip some of the fabric as he walked by. Oh my, what a dilemma!

"Whatcha working on ? " asked Mr. Pinker as he scanned the room  .

"Well we have a cross stitch that is in need of  immediate help", I said with a sense of urgency in my voice. " I am afraid it is going to bite the dust if I do not get your help. "

"Bite the dust ? " Mr. Pinker asked as he looked at the cross stitch with confusion .

"What can I do?" he asked.

"Quick! Give me that shirt! It is the perfect shade of green ! "

Mr. Pinker , rolled his eyes and smiled as he looked at the old shirt . He fingered the small tear in the bottom of the shirt . He walked out and then came back sporting a new shirt and a big smile on his face.

" Quick ! Now save that cross stitch!" he exclaimed as he tossed  the old green shirt to me!

"Oh thank you , dear! "  Eeeeh Mr. Pinker to the rescue!

To make a long story short Luck Basket made it out of the quilt room all stitched up into a pin pillow sporting a ruffled trim and Mr. Pinker got rid of the old tattered shirt. πŸ˜‰πŸ˜€πŸ’š

Come evening time, Mr. Pinker reentered in the quilt room. "How's our patient? ", he asked. I  proudly showed him the little pillow.

With a wink of his eye, he said "The shirt looks better on "Luck Basket. I will do anything for you and your  stitching endeavors !"  πŸ€—πŸ’š

 Now onto other happenings.

Mom and I have been seeing a new bird at our feeders.
I have never seen a bird like this before . He is quite handsome. Do you know what kind of bird he is ?

Speaking of birds. Spring Checklist is stitched and   is ready to go into the hoop.  If you missed Spring Checklist it was a freebie I shared earlier.

  The  embroidered block  measures 8 1/2" x  10 1/2" .

I cut 2 strips of border fabric 2 1/2" x WOF and then coffee dyed the strips.

 I subcut the fabric to 2 - 2 1/2" x 10 1/2"  to sew on the sides and 2 - 2 1/2" x 12 1/2" for top and bottom of stitchery.

Ready to sew on the borders.

In no time flat  , this wee wallhanging was completed. Hopefully, by the end of the week it will be hanging on my wall.

Do you see the  empty bird's nest in the burning bush? Perhaps a birdie will move into it soon.

UPDATE MAY 9, 2024: Spring Checklist is quilted and ready for display. I added a running stitch in DMC 898 1/4" away from border edge in the stitchery block.

Eeeh ! Did you hear?   Melva  at Melva Loves Scraps  Pieces of My Life SAL has begun. I was so excited when Melva announced that she was going to host another  Stitch Along. Over the past couple of years, I have enjoyed reading  Melva's family stories that have   accompanied each block that she chose for  each of her SAL quilts.

The first block  is called The Bow block

DIRECTIONS
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2.  Grease 9 "x 13" baking dish with cooking spray or butter.
3. Add strawberry pie filling and fresh sliced strawberries to baking dish and spread evenly.
4. Sprinkle the cake mix over the top . Cover the strawberries and pie filling completely.

My tiered tray is decorated with chicks and even a couple of yellow Easter pigs.  Everybody needs an Easter pig. Don't you think?

Bunnies are springing up everywhere.  Have they invaded your home yet? Be very careful ! They multiply quickly!

Have you tried the Duncan Hines Dolly Parton's cake mixes yet? She has several different mixes available .  Mom bought the Banana Cake mix and made Banana Bread it was delicious and very moist.
I will have to get her recipe.

I picked up the vintage Pyrex mixing bowl at the thrift store the other night. I was doing the Happy Dance!

Today I will be adding this small quilt into the hoop. I made it last year from the scraps leftover from Darlene's Quilt .
Lots of pretty reproduction fabrics in this wee quilt.

There are 20  4 1/2" blocks in this quilt.

Darlene's Quilt still needs to go into the hoop as well.

Darlene's Quilt inspired by my sweet friend , Darlene. Hi Darlene. πŸ€—

Once the youngin's leave, I hope to cozy up  on the couch  and work on  a new Spring piece called "Spring March" . I am dreaming of a drum finish for it , but we shall see.

Well that's what's going on in my neck of the woods- parties, baking , quilting and stitching- like I said a whole lot of goodness!

Thank you for dropping by for a visit on this very special day.
