December Already?

It is beginning to look a lot like Christmas everywhere you go!

December Word Play - a design by With Thy Needle & Thread finished on a Kirkland's chalkboard bought at the Goodwill.

Welcome , Sweeties. I believe I will be bustling about working on my Christmas right up to the day. How about you?

I have really been enjoying watching the Christmas decorating videos on Youtube. They always get me in the mood to deck the halls.

My kitchen tiered tray is sporting the usual Christmas greenery and a few chickens.

I use the jar and candle lids to raise up items in my tiered tray.  I especially like the clear candle lids.

My newest mug rug is finished. I embroidered this snow globe doodle in 2018.

December Poinsettias is the last in the monthly doodles that I have been sharing on the 1st of each month.

I stitched this block in redwork like the other blocks, but I think this would be so pretty to color tint the motifs and leave off the word December. Maybe make it into a wee mug rug. Hmmm the ideas are flowing.

I also added some French knots to the poinsettias though I did not draw them on the doodle.  They were an afterthought. 🤔

A little doodle just for you.

So far I have shared the January Snowman  , the February Pansies and Groundhog  ,   March Sheep Basket , April's Bunny and Watering Can  ,  May's Berry Basket  , June Bee Skep , July Picnic Basket , August Sunflower Wheelbarrow , September Apple Basket  , October Pumpkin Patch , November Turkey and  December Poinsettia Doodles.

Soon I will be piecing all of the blocks into a small quilt.

Each block is stitched  on a 7 1/2 squared piece of fabric and then trimmed it to 6 1/2" . The block is then framed  with 2" strips .

I have began working on a new house cross stitch. Putting in the landscaping first. I will be working on this piece today and hopefully by the night's end, I will have a finish.

Pam Buda at Heartspun Quilts has a free Doll Bed Dowry Christmas Eve quilt pattern, but it is only free from today until Sunday, so if you are interested just pop over to her blog for the details on how to download. After Monday, it will cost a nominal fee.

Have a wonderful day and enjoy all the joys of the Christmas season.

As always...

Happy  Stitching and Quilting, y'all

Let the November Quilt Stacks Begin!

Can you believe it? ! It is November! Where has this year gone?

TURKEY HOLLER SALTBOX and With Thy Needle and Thread's November Word Play

A very happy Wednesday to you , sweet friends.

Let me start off by wishing you a fabulous new month filled with blessings , love, laughter, peace  and hope.  It is a beautiful month. 🤗🦃🤎🧡🧡

Did you say goodbye to October with a visit from ghosts and goblins? I had only 3 haunt my  humble home; we were  down one who was feeling poorly and could not go trick or treating.

Oh ,these little dickens tried to be scary , but they were old school characters and did not frighten this old grandma at all. 😀 I did oooh  and aaah over them and then gave them a complimentary Aaawwwwghh ( scream , which they laughed in delight) . I then plopped a big ole' bag of candy in each Halloween bag in hopes that I would give them a candy high as they went on their merry way.

As soon as the youngins' left. The turkeys flew in. 🦃🦃🦃🦃

Soon I was going through quilt stacks searching for just a few quilts to hang on my 3 thrifted shutters.

The first quilt that was pulled from the stack was  a snowball quilt top. Hmm that will do even though it is not quilted I thought.

Mr. Pinker looked down at the quilt as I was photographing and asked, "Is it going to be any bigger? Like maybe a full size or queen?"

"Nope," I replied, " I just had a limited amount of these fabrics. "

"I like big quilts! " Mr. Pinker said.

"I know, I know, dear". I then proceeded to pull out other quilts to preview.
"What about his quilt?" I asked Mr. Pinker.

"Hmmmm, I like all of the browns," said Mr. Pinker, "but..."

"But what?" I asked.

"Well it is just not big enough. " sighed Mr. Pinker

"Oooh I like the turkeys in that quilt, ", he chimed as I dropped a turkey quilt on the floor.  "But again it is a wee too small for me to even wrap my big toe in ," he playfully remarked.

"These quilts are not for wrapping up in , Silly, " I said. I then grabbed my bundle of quilts and gleefully shouted as I ran out of the room "Let the November quilt stacks begin!"

With the eyes in the back of my head, I swear I could see Mr. Pinker shaking his head. 😁😀🦃

Anywhooo, in two shakes of a turkey tail, I had those quilts hanging on the thrifted shutters to admire with more country clutter sure to join them.
I still have some tweaking to do, but it is a beginning!

With all that was going on, I failed to stitch my November doodle. So that will be on the agenda today. But I do have it drawn and ready for you if you are interested.

UPDATE: Nov. 1, 2023. My nimble fingers worked overtime to finish this little doodle today.

I am using DMC 498 to stitch my monthly doodles.

Speaking of embroidery, yesterday, Joy at Days Filled with Joy published the last motif in her free Summer Mystery SAL. I hope to begin this project very soon. Joy is always so generous. Thank you , Joy.

And I can not forget to tell you that tomorrow will start the Mr. Snow SAL. Eeeh ! I am so excited for you to see the new snowmen that I  have been working on. Perhaps you may want to join me or just follow along. Either way I would love for you to drop by for a visit.

Thank you so much for the Wednesday visit. Enjoy your day, dear friends and...

"October! There is Magic in the Name"

October! October!

There is magic in the name.

A clear sky , A blue sky,

And sunsets all a flame ...

October! October!

The hills are all aglow

With red leaves, with gold leaves

That dance when the soft winds blow...

-D. Maitland Bushby

Good morning, Sunshine and Happy October!

Shall we start the day off with a little October doodle?

This is October Pumpkin Patch with a sweet plump cat and a big ole' pumpkin.

A sweet scarecrow quilt embroidered a few years ago.

Four little scrappy leaves ready to be placed into a quilt.

On Friday, Kathleen Tracy of a Sentimental Quilter shared Step Two in the Autumn Leaves SAL  Are you working on Autumn Leaves?

I have neutral fabrics to pull and cut for Step 2. That is on the agenda today.  Hmmm what else should I work on?  Aah the November Doodle !!!  What should I draw? Do you have any suggestions? I do believe a turkey should be in the November doodle. What do ya' think?

Oooh do you hear that? Black cats, jacks and witches are haunting my attic . I do believe they will be creeping out today.

Lots of Halloween decor needs to be pulled out. I wish you were here to help me. I am sure I could rustle up some treats to eat as we worked and then when we finished, we could relax on the porch and enjoy some stitching.  Doesn't that sound delightful?

Well, Punkins, if I am going to get all of this done, I better get to scootin' . Have a beautiful 1st day of October and...

September is Here!

SEPTEMBER IS HERE!

School bells ringing in the morning,

Little girls in fresh print gowns.

Little boys playing together

Some acting like wild circus clowns.

From the trees the red leaves falling,

Wild geese flying overhead,

The squirrels hiding countless nuts

In their secret, wintery bed.

All these signs point just one way.

Their meaning to the world is clear.

September, first month of autumn,

Once again is reigning here. - Lenore Hetrick

A very Happy September to you, sweet friends! Autumn will soon be here. Have you started pulling out your Autumn decor? I slowly am.

Yesterday the Flag quilt came down off of the quilt rack which hangs above the buffet.

I pieced this one in 2020 knowing I was going to hang it in the living room.  36 flags sashed with 1 1/2" strips ( unfinished)

I do believe I would like to make another.  So last night I willy  nilly pulled some fabrics and began cutting.  There was a bandana red fabric, Christmas fabrics, shirts and gowns- all cut into little strips and squares . And since this month's Rainbow Scrap Color is turquoise , I grabbed a couple of fat quarters in that color and threw it into the mix.

Within an hour I had 11 blocks completed.

This is going to be another scrappy flag quilt like my 1st one.

A block from the original quilt with polka dot , school and winter fabrics.

Here are the measurements for the Flag Block if you are interested.

The FLAG BLOCK   measures:  5 1/2" x 6 1/2" unfinished  ; 5" x 6" finished  .

CUTTING FOR ONE FLAG BLOCK

🧵From BLUE FABRIC-   Cut 1 - 3 1/2" x 3 1/2" square

🧵From WHITE SCRAPS - Cut  1 - 1 1/2"  x  3 1/2" strip

                      Cut 1-   1 1/2" x 6 1/2" strip

🧵From RED SCRAPS-    Cut  2-  1 1/2"  x  3 1/2" strip

                      Cut 1-   1 1/2" x 6 1/2" strip

Fabrics are cut for a scrappy flag block.
Sew the 1 1/2" strips together.

Easy Peasy the block is complete.

I will be storing my cut fabrics in this vintage tin that I bought at the thrift store for a dime last week . It was made in Western Germany. Do you know what may have originally came in this tin? I am sure I will find many uses for it.

"Caw Caw"  a  new stitch is in the works!

It is Lizzie Kate's "Scare a crow" Halloween Rules F-105.  This was a gift from dear Joan. I already know where this crow will be going  .As soon as it is complete it will fly into the Hall of Crows which I will share later.

I finished my September's  doodle. A basket filled to the brim with delicious apples.

Nine blocks completed. Three more to go.

I am using DMC 498 to stitch my monthly doodles.
