Witches, Pilgrims and Thrifty Finds

What's going on in the holler today? Well, a little bit of this and that and a whole lot of nothing! LOL. 😀😏

Oh bother, here comes Miss Witch Hazel McPumpkin, sweeping up a storm when she should be working on her cottage. Cackle! Cackle!

Please forgive her green complexion . She had a bad bowl of toadstool soup, but she will be fine and dandy come Halloween time.

I work on Halloween stitches on Wednesdays for at least 15 minutes.

Pickings have been slim at the thrift stores lately , but over the last few weeks I have added 2 stinkin' cute Halloween jack- o- lantern mugs for my small collection.

2 thrifty Halloween mugs to add to my collection

Hmmm... what else can I show you? Well,  I am making progress on Susannah's dress in Celebrate the Harvest , a new design I am working on.

On Thursdays I work on Thanksgiving stitches.

I found this turkey planter the other day at the thrift store for $1. 27. Gobble ! Gobble!

And... I am ready to sew down the binding on Little Red Four Patch .

I guess there is a few things going on in the holler today.
So ... What are you working on today?

As Always,

Happy  Stitching and Quilting, y'all

Happy Turkey Day!

Good Thursday morning , Sweetie Pies and Happy Thursday. I wanted to pop in and wish all of those in the U.S. a very Happy Thanksgiving and to everyone else a very lovely day as well. May your day be filled with blessings, love  and warm memories of those who are no longer with us. And....  may your plate be filled with turkey , ham and all the fixins'.  Gobble till you Wobble! 🦃🦃🦃

This is  Heartstring Samplery's "Thankful Everyday" which is a freebie on Beth's blog in November 22, 2019 post.  I finished stitching it in October of 2022 while on vacation with my parents in Nebraska. Anywhoo, I finally finished it by popping it into a frame .

Pickin 'at Turkey Holler House Freebie

The countdown is on!

3 days until Thanksgiving ...

 30 days until Christmas

Can you believe it?  Whooa there Nelly! Slow this holiday season down! Hee! Hee!

Welcome, y'all. Well I have been missing for a few days which I will explain at the end of the post , but first let me wish you a wonderful start to your week. How was your weekend?  I bet it was busy , busy, busy. Are you hustling about with holiday preparations?

Today Mr. Pinker went to Wally World aka Walmart and Food City for the last minute groceries for the grand feast on Thursday. He said it was a mad house down there.

He had the dickens of a time finding wax beans but finally found them at Food City.

Gosh, he is such a sweetheart to fight the crowd for me. Hee! Hee!  Anywhoo...I think we have all that we need .  I will be pulling out the serving bowls that we will be using here soon and washing them up. Busy , busy , busy!

I have been slow as molasses on my stitching and quilting lately. But over the last few weeks, I have been able to finish a new house stitch or two.  I know it is rather late to share a turkey house, but I thought I  might tempt you with a house for next year  if you are so inclined.

Pickin' at Turkey Holler and "And the Snow Fell.." ready to be finished.

My newest stitch  is called Pickin' at Turkey Holler.

My sweet friend , Lisa on IG , inspired the name when she said the turkeys were little pumpkin pickers. Hee! Hee!  Oh yes, those hens are ! I think they are gathering pumpkins for a pumpkin pie. What do you think?

I really enjoyed stitching this piece. I think because I was playing with so many floss colors.

 I was a bit surprised by how many floss colors I used.  17 DMC  threads including: DMC 300, 301, 437, 610, 730, 733, 782, 783, 831, 840, 838, 844, 869, 921, 976, 3046, 3857.

The 3 colors that I fell in love with were 3046, 976 and 730. They are so pretty paired together in the 1621 banner.

I think my dough bowl is about filled to the brim with fall stitches.

Did you notice my white vintage ceramic turkey?

That little gobbler flew into my shopping cart on a recent thrift store jaunt.  He was just too cute to shoo out of the buggy so I let him take a ride to my home. I always look forward to adopting a new turkey each year.  😀🦃Sadly, I did not get out all of my turkeys this year, but I am sure they will flock down from the attic come next year.

2023 Thanksgiving display

Ok now to other news. Over the last few months I have been facing some health issues.  I won't go into all the details because that is no fun at all, but it has slowed me down on doing the things that I love like quilting, stitching, and visiting all of my sweet friends in blogland and IG. My energy level is low , and though I have good intentions, there are days that I am just plain tuckered out. The good news is that over time, hopefully in the next few months, I will be fit as a fiddle and  will be fine and dandy.  So I am looking forward to new projects and finishing old ones.

I do want to thank all of you for always being so kind , supportive, and encouraging. Y'all are the bestest of the best!!!!

I wish you a wonderful week and thank you for dropping by. Love ya'!😘🤗 Now let's get ready for gobble day! 😀🦃🦃🦃  Gobble! Gobble!

As always,

Happy Stitching and Quilting, y'all

Nine Patches, Turkeys and Gingerbread- A Christmas Trifle Freebie

A wonderful Wednesday, to you dear friends.

On Monday, Darlene @darlenedeondesigns on Instagram and  Flosstube, announced  a Nine Patch Sew Along on her Instagram account.  A wee nine patch a day - oh yes, that is doable! ( All of the information is on her IG account) .

Immediately, I was ready to join in so I grabbed a few fabrics and went to town cutting strips of fabrics. After cutting the strips into squares, I whipped up 7 nine patches ( I sewed 4 extra since I will be gone Thursday - Sunday).  Thank you, Darlene for a fun project to work on over the next year.

Doesn't every sewing room need a sewing mouse?  Look at my cute as a button pincushion- a fancy little mouse with a pin cap. ❤🐭

I finished my little Autumn Turkey Four Patch Quilt.

This quilt has nine 4" four patches. The yellow turkey fabric was a gift from the big stash of fabrics that my nephew gifted me.

I quilted 1/4" from the seams and in the border, I used a swirl quilting design.

Autumn Turkey Four Patch measures 22"square.  I think it looks so yummy on my old mustard yellow Hoosier top.

Hmmm, I think I need a Christmas 4 patch. What do you think?

I pulled out a lot of my Barnyard Christmas ornaments yesterday. All of these happy stitches will soon be loaded up on to the tree.

Can I interest you in a cookie? My newest trifle is a wee gingerbread man.  Doesn't it look like a sweet stamped sugar cookie?

Gingerbread Trifle  is a tee tiny stitch that measures a little over an inch on 14 count aida. Using 2 strands of red  floss, I tied a teeny bow and attached it to his neck.

I use my little trifles as scissor fobs, ornaments or I just tuck in them here and there. I am hoping to add another Christmas trifle to my collection next week. Fingers crossed.

Oooh I am so excited! Tomorrow I will be sharing the 2nd block in the Mr. Snow SAL. I hope you will pop in for a visit.

Well I have an empty tree calling my name, so I better kick it into high gear and get to work. Got to get those farmyard ornaments on the tree.

Edna says have a wonderful day!  Look at her twist that nose up. How adorable!

Have a beautiful day, Sweeties and...

As Always...

Happy quilting and stitching, y'all

It is a bright beautiful day in the holler with the temps. already in the high 70's.  I love the warm fall days!

The lawn  has a quilt of colorful leaves.

How is your day going? I hope  you are enjoying this 1st Tuesday of November. Have you started to pull out your Christmas decorations?  I plan to work on a tree today.

The kitchen and small foyer is decorated in all its Fall and Thanksgiving glory.

The tiered tray has loads of pumpkins , turkeys and a happy Pilgrim couple.

Turkeys tureens are tucked here and there and everywhere.

My small collection of white turkeys have roosted on my "mitten table" ( This is where I store the kiddos mittens and caps for the winter.

A lone white hen decided to join the white turkeys.

Today I will be working on a new quick turkey stitch- a Mini Turkey Sampler.
I haven't decided what colors I will use, but when I do I will certainly list them.

UPDATE:November 26, 2025. I finished The Mini Turkey Sampler.
I used the following DMC colors: 301, 729, 829,  898, 936 and 3857. I did not stitch the eye.
