Stitchin' the Day Away

Singing the Sunday Blues. Nah! I am not blue, I have just been working on some blue quilt blocks.

Good Sunday morning, Pumpkins. How is the 2nd day of October treating you?   These last few nights there has been a chill in the air.  

 The leaves are slowly beginning to change color in the holler and a few have fallen to the ground. Soon we will have a quilt of colorful leaves blanketing the earth. 

   

Speaking of leaves. I finished the embroidery work in my 1st Camping block. This block commemorates when Mr. Pinker and I went camping at Oak Ridge.  

The blue goose block is the 2nd Camping Block representing Goosepond where we like to camp. 

Do you have a slow stitching project for Sunday?  My quilting project will be Cheri Payne's Santas. 

My embroidery is not fantastic. It looks like a 5 year old did it, but I am ok with that .😃 Lol I am a kid at heart. 

Dear Marianne gifted me Homespun Elegances "Delivering Plenty" so  for my Sunday cross stitch I am going to continue working on it. It has been my Thankful Thursday stitch, but I don't think ole' Tom turkey minds me working on him today . 

You know what? It  is Santa Sunday in my stitching rotation, I better choose an extra cross stitch to work on. Hmmm. ! I think I need to work on another stitch from dear Heidi at All My Scattering Moments. Today's Christmas stitch will be "Silent Night" which she posted on her blog in the Dec. 15th 2009 post. 

These are the stitches that I have completed so far from Heidi. 

For Design Wall Monday, I will be working on more butterfly blocks. All of the wings are stitched . Now I am adding the bodies.

Did I Get er' Done?   Well.... Last week's goals were:  

✅🧵 Work on the embroidery work on the Cheri Payne Santa blocks. I am quite smitten with these Santas.  Thank you so much, Joan for this pattern.

✅🧵Work on Witchy Woman cross stitch. I have been working on this one for 2 years now. I do need to complete it. 

✅🧵Begin a new Mason Jar Cross stitch.

✅🧵FFO 2 more cross stitches

✅🧵Spend at least 15 minutes a day quilting on the Easter Quilt.

WOO HOO! Doing the Happy Dance! 💃💃💃💃100% complete on this past week's goals!!!

Jacks, Cats and Chickens, Oh My! A Halloween Freebie

Good afternoon, ya'll Guess who is back !!!!! Hip Hip Hooray!!!!  It is Annie and the gals- her trusty hens, Edna, Dorothy and Alma. 

Where has this crew been? It has certainly been awhile since we have seen them in a stitch.  

If you do not know them, Annie is a hard working gal that has appeared in several of my stitches with her hens. 

She has tended to bees, a pumpkin patch as well as a corn patch, gathered roses, sledded and even  led a patriotic parade. Well, she still has more adventures to be had. And today she and the gals are enjoying some large Jack-o- lanterns as the black cats, Jimmie and Johnny, roam around. 

Little Alma is sitting on a pumpkin as Annie is tending to the cauldron. Hmmm What is she brewing? Perhaps fabric. 😀

 Normally Annie throws out a bit of corn for the gals to eat, but this time she has scattered candy corn and some purple corn kernels.   They are all ready for some "Chick or Treats" . 🐔🎃   

 I finished this piece just as I have all of the other stitches on a piece of foam board wrapped in batting. I added a ruffle and then mounted it to another fabric wrapped foam board. 

It is tacked onto an old wooden box that I purchased at the Goodwill. I just change out my  Annie and the gang stitches by the season.

Many dear stitchers say they right click, save the image and then print.  I think some have copied and pasted it to a Word document that they can print off as well. I hope you are able to find a way to enjoy this chart. You will have to click each page to save .  I am doing my best to get back to my normal method of sharing . Thank you so much for your patience and understanding and for all of the helpful tips and ideas.

October! October!

Hello there sweetie pies. It's the spookiest month of the year!! Happy October!

Well since the days seem to fly by when we reach this time of the year, I thought I would  give you the holiday countdown !🗓 Put blinders on if you do not want to see . Eeeh! 

🎃30 days until Halloween

🦃54 days until

Thanksgiving 

🎅 85 days until Christmas. 

I have been busy bustling about the house these last few days; taking down some of the Autumn decor and replacing it with Halloween.  That includes changing out the quilts. 

Last month I told you about gifting my oldest grandson my queen sized bed which was in the guest bedroom. It held several quilts and when I spotted  Great Grandma Annie's quilt, I just knew it would be perfect to hang on The Quilt Keeper  for the month of October.  Such warm oranges and reds. 

This quilt is very special.  If you have followed me for awhile , you have met my Great Grandma Annie through my stitching and you have even seen her furniture like the buffet which is usually in my header. 

 

 

You may remember looking through her sewing basket when I shared Grandma Annie's Sewing Basket in July for Needle and Thread Day.  And of course she has been in many other stitches. 

 

Great Grandma Annie was the mother of 3 boys and 3 girls one of which passed away as a child.  I never met my great grandma, but knowing her children I can imagine how loving and funny she must have been for my grandmother and aunt were a hoot!  

Annie was very thrifty as evident by the quilt. The fabrics appear to be feedsacks - perhaps she had used these fabrics to make clothes or aprons and these were the scraps that she strip pieced into lovely Lemoyne Stars. Aren't the fabrics  so yummy ?  

I do  know this quilt was made before 1953 which was when Great Grandma Annie gained her angel wings.

 The backing was pieced from white 100 lb chicken scratch feed bags. You can faintly see the print .

 

Annie quilted  the sashing and borders in simple straight lines about 1 1/2" apart and she quilted  rays of stitching in the lemonye stars. 

The quilting thread was rather thick. I wondered if she used feedsack threads or the threads that she saved from the handle factory to quilt it. ( I will have to show you the crocheted bedspread sometime made from those threads . Wow, it is gorgeous) 

 I think this quilt is in pretty good condition considering its age. I imagine this quilt kept the chill off my grandmother on those cool October nights.  

I think Grandma Annie's binding was unusual. On the sides she turned the red border fabric over to the back but on the top and bottom of the quilt she turned the backing fabric to the front and sewed it down.  Quite interesting.
