Slow Stitching Sunday

Good Sunday morning. May I greet you with some country clutter? Lol.

 A little area that is fixing to be cleared out and changed. These are some of my favorite things, Raggedy Anns and Andys, stitching, wooden items, toys and of course little quilts. 

School started this past week.

 Both grandsons are at the elementary school now, and they love it. 

I made this teeny rug mug on Thursday since the little one was not here to entertain me. I can not believe he is in Pre-K.  

 I finished the binding on last Sunday's little quilt, Family is Everything.

 It is hung in the hall for now.  

On this Slow Stitching Sunday, you will find me quilting on "Fair and Square " a quilt design from Kim Diehl's new book , Simple Whatnots II. 

It is in the hoop ready to be finished.

 Oh, what else can I get into? Orange plaid shirtings are being cut into 1 1/2 " strips.

 I'm thinking lots of four patches for a little quilt. Fall is on my mind. 

What a lovely pile of yellow scraps.

I am going to nose dive into these small strips and see what I can create.Scrappy striping sounds like a lot of fun .

 So my plans on the cross stitch front . Well I pulled out Little House Needleworks, Autumn ABC's this past week,  and I hope to put more stitches in it.

Summer Ewe- A Summer Freebie

Good evening, friends. How is your Saturday? It has been a busy day in my neck of the woods with  the grandbaby's 1st football scrimmage, and since I was out, I had to make a Goodwill trip.

 Many of you have met  Erin Ewe  and Betsy Ewe.

 

 I designed these cute little gals sitting in hats earlier this year.  

 I would love to introduce to you their sister, Summer Ewe. 

                        

She is like her sisters, but she sits in a  woven straw hat which also looks like a basket. Summer sports a sunflower quilt block .

                         

 Of course , you can tell she has already been sunflower picking.  This is another small quick stitch with a design size of only 40 x 37, and if you stitched it on 14 count aida like I did, it would measure about 2 7/8" x 2 5/8". See not big at all. 

I made mine in a simple pillow with some homespun . I then tied a bow from Dollar Tree twine around the seam. I hope to find a little sunflower to tuck in the twine soon.

A Bee Buffet Tour - A Parade of Bee Stitches

Good morning, honey! Oh, please come on in and have a seat.

 As you know, I have been on a kick lately even more so after hubby was able to catch a swarm of bees. So  I thought I would give a tour of my  bee buffet.  Now I must warn you- it is crammed full of stitching and good ole' country clutter.  That's just my style.   

My buffet and dining room set were actually my great grandmother's. She sold eggs until she had enough money to buy the set. Many of you have met my great grandmother in my stitches. She is Annie with her brood of chickens including  Edna, Dorothy Mae and Alma in a little series that I have stitched which includes Bees, Bloom and Chickens .  

 Behind the buffet, I did leave up my flag quilt because I had just finished it before the 4th of July and wanted to enjoy it a little longer.

  As long as I can remember ,the large scales has always been on this buffet - even when I was a child.  So when I inherited both the scales and the buffet , the scales remained in place on the buffet. It  holds some  thrifted chicken plates .

In an old thrifted frame is With Thy Needle and Thread's August Word Play. I change it out each season using the same frame.  Below it is a rough piece of wood from the handle factory that I painted white and added a bee.

  I just recently purchased these 3 bees wax candles at a yard sale. Perfect to add to the bee buffet. 

The great big wooden bee skep was a Big Lots find about 20 years ago. I still love it.  

The beautiful bee skep on my white thrifted tray was a gift from sweet, Pat.  Her sister  made it . Isn't it beautiful ? I will certainly will treasure it. 

Bees and Blooms , Aunt Bea's Summer Home and Summer House are all freebies that I have shared on my blog.

Bee Skep 1869 Crock  is one of my stitches mounted on a Dollar Tree box. On top of it is a Big Lots  wooden bee . 

Queen Bee is a Little House Needleworks design and  The Bee Happy, Bee Kind stitch on black aida is an old Prairie Grove Peddler freebie. 

  In my milk glass compote, I have filled it with little ceramic containers and stuck sunflowers throughout.

 In one milk glass container is another bee painted on rough cut wood and the other is Country Cottage Needlework's Bumblebee.

Throughout the display I have scattered Dollar Tree sunflowers. This bee buffet has certainly brought me a lot of happiness this summer. I can not tell you how many times I have rearranged it though. Lol.

Sunflower Sampler

Good morning. Hump day already?!  Well, it sure is! This  week is certainly flying by! 

🌻🌻ADVICE FROM A SUNFLOWER: 🌻🌻

Be bright , sunny and positive.

Spread seeds of happiness. 

Rise, Shine and hold your head high! 

Today's little stitch is a simple little sampler with a big ole' sunflower.

 I only used four floss colors which were 3345 , 3371, 898 and 783; of course I encourage you to use whatever floss colors you would like. 

I finished mine in a thrifted  frame, with a bit of red homespun as the finishing fabric. A Dollar Tree ribbon was used for embellishment as well as a twine bow and a little yellow button- all from the Dollar Tree. A pretty thrifty finish.
