The Marcher of the Flag- A Patriotic Freebie

It's another beautiful summer day!
Welcome , Sweet Friends and Happy Thursday!

For the last couple of days I have been busy working on more   Happy Scrappy Flags . This is my leader / ender project.

80  Happy Scrappy Flags are completed and more will be in the works.

Bear Indian fabric, old stripes from the 80's and Christmas fabrics

These are just a few that I pieced yesterday when I was working on my hourglass blocks.

This is my favorite! Ladybugs, butterflies, flowers and angels- Perfectly scrappy if I do say so.

Block measures 5 1/2" x 6 1/2" unfinished

Last year  I showed a design called  The Marcher of the Flag when I shared my My Red, White and Blue Hutch Tour.
2023 Patriotic Hutch

If you would like to see any of the stitches on last year's hutch tour,  just click on the colored link above.

I stitched The Marcher of the Flag  in 2020 after my daughter finished boot camp in  2019 .

Brave Men and Women. Such Patriots and Heroes!

She was one of the airmen who carried a  flag during the graduation ceremony.  She carried the Air Force flag while a male airmen carried the United States flag. It was such a deep honor.

It brought me to tears to be present among these brave mean and women.

May I add that I am one proud Mama. 😀

Anywhoo, any major event that she had in the Air Force I stitched a piece for or am in the process of stitching .

The Marcher of the Flag includes a sweet patriotic lass marching the flag with "Liberty" , her eagle by her side.

Lots of quilted stars surround her.

I finished The Marcher of the Flag on a "fall " wooden plaque that I found at the Goodwill for a dollar. I added some patriotic fabric and pom pom trim around the stitch. The bow is made from fabrics in my stash.

There  are  12  DMC floss colors in this piece including: DMC 310,  353, 898, 435, 783, 3345, B5200, 347, 311, 334, 815, 938

I STITCHED MY DESIGN ON 14 COUNT AIDA THAT I COFFEE/ TEA DYED MYSELF.

🧵🧵🧵🧵🧵🧵🧵🧵🧵🧵🧵🧵🧵🧵🧵🧵🧵🧵

If you are interested in stitching this piece,  just grab , the images. For printing tips, refer to the post Tips for Printing which has loads of tips from my sweet friends.

🧵🧵🧵🧵🧵🧵🧵🧵🧵🧵🧵🧵🧵🧵🧵🧵🧵🧵

Today the youngin's are here.  They have been having lots of sleepovers. I am not sure what they  will get in to, but I bet my bottom dollar that they will be wanting to go swimming or fishing.

In closing, I would like to thank all of those who have served in the military  and the families of those who have served too.

I wish you a fabulous day doing what you love and thank you for dropping by to see my stitch.

 As Always...

Happy quilting and stitching, y'all

Melisa

Strength, Courage , Pride- Our Military

Hugs and Stitches!!! 🤗❤🧵

This sweet stray is considering adopting us. She is still skittish,  but she and two sisters have been visiting me each day.
Dedicated to my sweet baby sister, Amy . I love and miss you so much, Amo! 💗💗💗

  3. Please, please thank your daughter for her service! I'm a proud military brat as my step father served in the Air Force 20 years, a proud spouse as my husband served 25 years in the Air Force, etc. All very proud vets. Marcher of the Flag is wonderful, and I will stitch it for next year. I stitched quite a few patriotic things, but "finishing" is my Achille's Heel so next year they should be ready. LOL Enjoy your Thursday - I'm headed to the post office first thing in the morning and then home to stitch. TeeHee Darlene J

I have to admit that I have a "finishing' problem too. Hee! Hee! You should see my "Need to finish baskets" LOL. Have a great evening , sweet friend. Hugs .

  4. Thank you for such a patriotic post. Too many don't appreciate the sacrifices made by the uniformed men & women and also their families! I grew up a "military brat" and then I raised two of my own as I married a military guy. The upheaval of moving every few years is rough on all involved and it's especially hard when the member gets called upon to go on a remote assignment for up to a year. Your Scrappy Flags are quite the scrappy project with wonderful bits & pieces of so many fabrics. Thank you for the sweet stitchery. Love that she is accompanied by Liberty.

    1. Aaah you are so welcome, Susie and thank you for you sweetness and to your family for all that they have done to protect and serve our country. We have to stand by our military and their families . I understand the worry that one goes through as a family member serves- it can be very hard isn't it? I am really enjoying working on these scrappy flags. I have hopes that the 1 1/2" bin will reduce but I do not think I have made a dent. LOL. Have a blessed day. Hugs.

It's a wonderful tribute to your daughter, Melisa! Please thank her for her service from all of us. My husband is a veteran and it means a lot when people stop and do that for him.

  12. I have 12 of your scrappy flags finishing and got the idea from Diann to sash them and make them into a table runner. I can't wait to see your 80+! Melisa I didn't know your daughter was in the military - kudos to her and please thank her for her service! When I see folks rioting I think, if only they knew how much they have to be grateful for, and why don't they just leave America if they hate it so much. (Don't get me started - lol!) Your Marcher of the Flag is brilliant - it belongs in a shop! Your stray kitty looks like my Rosie, right down to the blue eyes. I've read that she is a Lynx Point Siamese, and they are very sweet cats. My Rosie is still shy and a bit skittish. She appeared from nowhere when I lived on acreage in 2016!

    1. Oh how fun, Linda. I know your scrappy flag runner will be as cute as a patriotic button! I can not thank you enough for piecing along with me. I was scared to death when my daughter went into the military , but I am so very proud and it has been a wonderful rewarding experience for her. Lol I know what you mean about those who do not understand the history and the sacrifice our brave men and women have made . It is so sad. Oh how interesting about Rosie. I hope that this little gal and her sisters will stay. She is getting closer , but still stays a good 10-15 feet away. The others are not that brave yet. I do miss having cats. Thank you for the sweet Thursday visit. Hugs.

  13. The Marcher is so special! Thank you. You have every right to be a proud mama! Thank your daughter for her service. I make a point to do that anytime I know a person has served. We take so much for granted here in the USA and it is not so in so many other places in the world. L&E's are such a wonderful thing, aren't they? I love accomplishing 2 things at once! Your flags are so perfect for that. 80 out of how many are you making? I bet your place is the favorite place of summer with both a pool and a fishin' hole, huh? The little kitty looks like a very pretty thing. You say there are 3 of them? Do you want them to stick around?

    1. Aaw thank you so much, Ginny. It brought me comfort and joy to stitch this for my daughter . She is the 1st female in our female to ever go into the military. Oh yes, the leader / enders are fabulous. I feel like I accomplish something with them plus I do not waste thread l. LOL. I haven't decided how many I am making. I was hoping to reduce the 1 1/2" strips in my bin but it seems like I have not made even the slightest dent. LOL. Three cats showed up a few weeks ago ; they go back and forth from the garage/barn to the woods. At first this one was also visiting the neighbor but now she is staying around here . I have not been able to get too close though. I have bought cat food in hopes that I can entice all of them to stay. I miss having cats around. Have a great evening. Hugs and Blessings.

  17. Wonderful post, love the stitchery and the Scrappy Flags are coming along very well. One thing that I find in my sewing room is that the more scraps I sew together the more magically appear in the bins, love it.
Thank you for your daughter's service and for your family support. My son is a Retired Command Sergent Major of 30 years from the Army, I know the feeling of gratefulness and pride that you feel for her, it is from the heart. Thank you to all who chose to serve and to the families and friends that support them. Sending you warm hugs and thoughts from sunny Arizona. Enjoy the littles with swimming and fishing, what a great way to spend the days.

The kiddos had a great time today. They did all that I predicted and had a grand time. LOL. Have a great evening and hope you are staying cool. Hugs from the holler.

I love your new stitch - Marcher of the Flag. I'll definitely be saving this one. What a great idea to create a pattern for your daughter while in the Army. My mom had stitched one while Mike and I were in the Navy. We passed that along to our daughter who, with her husband were in also. He was a submariner while she served on a couple of air craft carriers and on land. Blessings!
