I can hear them up in the trees ; yesterday one flew down to greet me. I have to admit I enjoy the sound of the cicadas . Do you?
Because of last night's storms, school is starting late today. I hope that all of those in its path are safe and my heart goes out to those affected.
I have been bustling about in the Wild and Woolly garden. This garden does not get much sun, but there are loads of lilies growing in it.
I planted a hydrangea bush. I hope it will survive. We have very poor soil here- in the holler so my fingers are crossed.

We also have a mosquito problem since we live close to the river. Have you ever grown mosquito plants? We bought 2 in hopes that they will give us some relief.

On the chert hill behind the kiddos swing set is another garden in the works. Butterfly bushes are planted in memory of my sister. I planted those on Monday.

Woo Hoo! I have a finish ! My sweet friend PJ gifted me the seasonal charts by Puntinipuntini . I finished Warm Spring, but Ooops I made a boo boo that I tend to always make.
Yikes! I did not give myself enough room for framing on one of the edges so I sewed a little bit of fabric for stretching and just popped it into a frame . My sweet friend, Darlene, gave me the idea to add a print fabric to it. How brilliant! I have been auditioning some pink fabrics, or I may go with a buttercream. But I just love it! Thank you so much, dear PJ and thank you Darlene for the suggestion.
Next up is "Hot Summer" by Puntinipuntini .

I am using different colors because I could not wait for the floss colors to arrive. LOL. I have a couple of finishing ideas already swirling about in my mind. Thank you , sweet Vicki. You are amazing!🤗
It's Embroidery Thursday!
I finished my Spring Checklist which was embroidered on coffee dyed fabric.
I embroidered this piece using the backstitch with DMC 898. I simply quilted around the embroidery and along the seams. If you would like the measurements for this quilt click on the March 11,2024 post called A Tale and a Finish

OOOPS- I have a correction for The Bunny House. If you printed the Instruction page before May 9,2024 there was a mistake in the Floss Symbols. DMC 926 should be the symbol "X". I apologize. I have posted the corrected Instruction page on that page.

DeleteThank you so much, sweet Melisa! I love hydrangeas but have trouble growing them in the rocks and clay soil we have. Yes, girl, those cicadias are L - O - U - D!!! I hope they don't visit me as I think they are bad ugly! LOL I'm glad you are safe from the storms. We were awakened at 6:15 this morning and are under a tornado watch and are supposed to have another round this evening...when we are supposed to be at M's school recital and the boys theater performance. We will watch M tonight and the boys do a second performance tomorrow night so will get to see them then! Have a great day and stay safe. Hugs.

DeleteI love your blog. I love how you write! Had some scares here with tornadoes. One devasted a town 15-20 miles from me Minden, IA. Monday night I was in the basement again but thankfully we were not in the path.

I will keep those residents in my prayers as well as you during this stormy season . I stayed up most of the night watching the weather reports. Thankfully, there was no damage in our area. DeleteHi there! I love your saltbox houses but just can’t get them to print. I’ve tried the suggestions but I’m old and not computer literate. Have you ever considered a Facebook page? You could put your lovely patterns in the files section as a PDF and we could all easily print them! Just food for thought. You are so generous to share your designing talents. Thank you so much.
ReplyDeleteI am so touched by your kind compliment about my houses. I enjoy sharing them. I sure wish you was able to print them. I wonder if you could stitch them from viewing them on the computer. I am not very tech savvy either. I have thought about Facebook but have yet to take the plunge. My computer will not let me create PDFs any more unless I want to pay for more storage. - Well that's what I deduce. LOL. Thank you so much for the sweet visit and suggestion. ReplyDeleteWe buy these plants ever other year from the Mennonite community. They smell like citronella. Hubby feels like the help distract them, but I am not for sure. I had no idea that they were a geranium- I learn something new everyday. Thank you for letting me know , dear . Hmmm I am going to research to see if I can propagate them. Can we assume the rest of the seasons will follow? Love the posies quilt! I remember now. We did see it before and I'm glad we got another viewing of such a Springy, sunshiny quilt. The little one feels like candy corn to me. Very cute! I've heard cicadas but not in person. They are not the (ehem!) prettiest critter I've ever seen. The mosquito plant is pretty. I hope it helps.

DeleteCongratulations on your Spring Checklist finish! I miss cicadas - don't really hear them here in our little town. Maybe because we don't have a lot of trees on our street? We have mostly crape myrtles and Bradford pear trees. I miss the frogs that used to sing after a rain where I grew up in northeastern Oklahoma! Sometimes they would keep us awake they were so loud. ;) I have never heard of a chert hill. Amy's garden and those butterfly bushes will be a lovely remembrance of your sister.
ReplyDeleteSometimes we miss the little things that bring joy. It has been ages since we have heard the cicadas but I do enjoy their humming. Oh yes, we have the frogs too- we fish them out of the pool all of the time. LOL. We do not have much dirt where I live- maybe just an inch if that deep. The chert is mostly rock. A lot of people buy truck loads of chert to pack down their driveways or housesites. For the few gardens that I have - I have had to haul in the dirt. It is no fun living on a chert hill when you love to garden. Lol. Thank you for dropping in Linda. I hope you had a very lovely Mother's Day. Hugs.
