Good morning, y'all ! My wee Pat- A -Cake Quilt is complete!
I do believe I need to celebrate with a cake. Hmmm , maybe a Hummingbird Cake - that sounds quite delicious don't you agree?
Pat- a Cake was made from the scraps left over from Darlene's Quilt . Oooh, if you missed my finish on Darlene's Quilt , please hop on over to that post. I share all of the measurements just in case you want to make one of your own.
Pat - a Cake measures 16 " x 20" and is made up of 20 scrappy blocks.
Each block measures 4" finished.
To make one block cut 2 pieces of scraps 2 1/2" x 4 1/2" .
Using a 1/4" seam allowance sew the strips together and press. Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy!
Make as many blocks as you want and then sew them together in pretty tidy little rows.
I must warn you that these blocks are quite addictive and soon you may find that your quilt has grown, grown, grown!
Now that this wee quilt is completed , it is time to move on to the next one. I have been cutting loads of strips for a new quilt.
Happy quilting and stitching, y'all
Melisa

Lol I wish I did not have to do the "sleep thing" . Hee! Hee! Don't you? I had a ball making this little quilt. It was whipped up in no time. Happy Wednesday, Darlene. Hugs.
DeleteI haven't thought of that nursey rhyme in years. Congrats on a very cut finish. You are so wise to use up the scraps before they multiply. Happy stitching this week.
ReplyDeleteI don't know what made me think of that nursery rhyme, but I thought it would be a great name for this quilt. Thank you for the sweet midweek visit, Kate. Hugs.
DeleteGood Morning! Actually no quilts in the making right now. I have a few on my bucket list - including the pattern you mentioned above but time and travel takes me away from it. Hopefully, I'll get a few "empty" days to work on them - Number one is repairing my dd's family quilt. Blessings!
ReplyDeleteHappy Wednesday, Donna. I hope you are having a great time on the road. Adding to your bucket list is always a good thing. I have been doing the same ; I especially seem to dream of projects when I am traveling . Do you do that? Lol. Safe travels and I wish you the best on making the repairs on you DD's quilt. Hugs.
DeleteYour Pat-a-Cake quilt is darling, Melisa. Well done!
ReplyDeleteAaah thank you so much, Robin. It was a delight to work on. Now on to the next one . Hugs.
DeleteI love your staging of this quilt with the bears having a tea party! Congrats on the finish. I do have a Villa Rosa quilt hanging on my design wall-I need to move it to a floor as it has outgrown my wall!!
ReplyDeleteOh how fun, Vicki. I can not wait to see which Villa Rosa you are working on. I was on their website the night before last looking for a fun future project. Thank you so much for the sweet Wednesday visit. Hugs.

ReplyDeleteI have had my heart set on making a Hummingbird Cake for a few days now. Maybe this weekend I will make one to celebrate my wee finish. Have a wonderful day, Nancy and Happy quilting. Hugs.
DeleteThat is cute as can be, Melisa! I love the sweet prints you used, especially the red with the dogs. You're making me want to pull out some strips and start sewing. Maybe I'll use some blocks like those as leaders and enders in between my star sections that I need to work on today. I don't think I have any prints nearly as fun as yours though!
ReplyDeleteI hope you made great progress on your stars today, Diann- perhaps a finish? Oh yes, this would be a great leader/ender project. Can you believe I have had some of those fabrics for 20 years or longer? It is about time I began cutting into them. Lol. Thank you for the sweet visit. Hugs.
DeleteSweet Patty=Cake Quilt~~ Love using up all the bits and pieces from my quilts. I am trying to decide what to do with all of my orphan blocks(I have about 50+ of assorted sizes), I am thinking about trying to get at least 2 done for my Grand-daughter and her hubby for Christmas. it will take some fudging and sashings to get them to a uniform sizes! Loved hearing of the boys grand fun fishing trip, are they keeping the turtle as a reminder?? Kids are the best when it comes to having fun no matter what happens! Hugs from Arizona, summer is coming!!
ReplyDeleteA sampler of your orphan blocks would be amazing, Mary. I have always wanted to do one, but right now it remains on my bucket list. I love to see sampler quilts with different size blocks . I am sure it take a lot of figuring and arranging and rearranging to get them just right, but I know you would do a fabulous job. The boys just took a photo of the turtle; it was so teeny. I am not sure if it was a baby, but it was as cute as a button. I know my oldest would have loved to keep it though. He is animal crazy. Lol. Hugs and Blessings.
DeleteSo cute with the tea party
ReplyDeleteAaah thank you so much, Marsha. This little quilt fit right in with my old patchwork bears don't you think? I hope you have had a very lovely day and happy quilting. Hugs.

DeleteWhat a sweet little quilt! I forget about how special little quilts can be. You are an inspiration. I looked up Hummingbird Cake. Oh My Word! I saved a bundt cake version recipe. Cream cheese frosting always gets my attention. LOL The little figurine of the 2 birdies reminds me of one my granddad had that always had toothpicks in the little basket. So cute!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Thursday, Ginny. I hope you try the Hummingbird Cake recipe ; it is amazing. I have been thinking about baking one for the last week. Perhaps this weekend once I go to the grocery store. I love anything with cream cheese. Yum! Have a great evening. Hugs.
