Oh boy, I just cannot wait for Mom's homemade cornbread dressing and the turkey breasts that she will roast. And I must not forget all of the delectable desserts that will grace the table. Hmmm, 🤔 I better start my diet a little early so I can have an extra helping of dressing. Hee! Hee!
| Gobble Gobble |
Sooo... I have started to prepare a menu for Thanksgiving. Mom used to make EVERYTHING! But nowadays I give a helping hand along with my sister .
What am I planning to take? Well here is my preliminary list of yummies. These are some family faves. I will provide a colored link for any recipes that I have shared in the past.
Over the Top Green Bean Caserole
Candied Yams
Nanny's Cornbread Salad
Potato Salad
Stuffed Celery
Pumpkin Pie
Pecan Pie

I am still pouring over recipe books for something new to bring. Do you have any suggestions?
There will be about 18 of us if everyone attends. After we eat dinner, Mr. Pinker and "our crew" will truck on down the road for a late night supper with his side of the family. We will bring in tow sides for there too. It is going to be one grand day !
Did you notice my little house ? It is hot off the presses and finishing table and is called The Maize House.
It is another grand but simple house flanked by cornstalks. The roof is adorned with a bountiful basket or maize just perfect for cooking for the holidays.
There are only 6 colors used in this little ole' house. I am consciously trying to use as few colors as possible in some of my houses. Anywhooo... The Maize House is stitched on 14 count Aida that is coffee/ tea dyed.
I used DMC floss colors : 422, 610, 844, 936, 3011, 3820.
SYMBOL FLOSS COLOR
l 422 Light Hazelnut Brown
X 610 DK Drab Brown
• 844 Ultra DK Beaver Gray
O 936 VY DK Avocado Green
U 3011 DK Khaki Green
Y 3820 DK Straw
I outlined my house in DMC 936 as an afterthought to make the house pop on my coffee fabric. I did not chart this.

If you are interested in stitching this piece, just grab , the images. For printing tips, refer to the post Tips for Printing which has loads of tips from my sweet friends.

If you are interested in stitching this piece, you can find the letters for the initials in The Maize Basket Sampler which I shared last week.
Alright , Sweetness, I better get off here. I have recipe books to sift through and grocery lists to make. Like I said the countdown is on!
Now tell me are you dreaming of turkey, ham and all of the trimmings?
Have an awesome day!
As Always...

ReplyDeleteIt's a beautiful house.
It's wonderful to imagine all the preparations and the pre-event excitement before sharing a big night with family.
Hugs from Spain
Aaw thank you very kindly, dear Isabel. It was a joy to stitch this humble home. This is a very exciting time of the year as the holidays approach. It is always a blessing to spend time with the family. Hugs and Blessings.
DeleteThank you for this beautiful house pattern. You call it The Maize House. Do you know the Dutch word for 'corn' is 'maïs' ?
ReplyDeleteHugs and enjoy your day !
Oh how interesting, Annelies. I did not know that . I hope you enjoy this little house. I cannot thank you enough for stitching my little homes. I am so very honored. Warm hugs and blessings.
DeleteI love The Maize House very much. I've stitched a few houses since I found you but I need to do more - lots more. It's just hard to pick one! LOL Earlier this week I discovered a little quilt I love but it was rolled up and now I can't find it again to ask you about it. grrrr!!!
ReplyDeleteIt really is difficult to believe that it's almost mid-November and Christmas is not far behind. I had a horrible 2025 so I'm really looking forward to the end and hope 2026 will be much better. I'll be happy if it's just a bit better - I can't take another year like I've been experiencing.
Happy, happy Thursday. Big Hugs, DarleneJ
Happy Happy Thursday, Miz Darlene! I am thrilled to pieces to get another little house stitch completed. I feel like I have been as slow as molasses stitching them. Gosh , we do have those "years" which are full of challenges and are just the "pits". It breaks my heart to hear that 2025 has been that way for you. I do wish that the remainder of the year is uplifting and 2026 is filled with happiness for you. I am sending you a great big ole' hug and lots of love.
DeleteHi Melisa. I'm finally catching up with some blog reading! WOW. You do make a lot for Thanksgiving. We don't celebrate it here in Australia. I've been looking at more of your posts. You have and make such lovely things. Hugs, Christine x
ReplyDeleteHi Christine. It is so good to hear from you. I hope that you are doing well; I am sure you have been staying very busy. Our family always looks forward to Thanksgiving especially when everyone can come to the gathering. I am so very appreciative that you have been looking back at my older posts. I am a little bit slower on making things compared to years' past but I am still plugging along. Have a blessed day and thank you for the sweet visit. Hugs.
DeleteHave a blessed day with your families. We'll be having a small group at our home, just our local son and his family. But we will be feasting on a turkey he raised this year. What's our dessert? Ground cherry pie!
ReplyDeleteOh it sounds like you will have a lovely Thanksgiving, Gretchen. I bet the turkey will be delicious particularly since it is home grown- what a treat. Pumpkin, pecan and usually a chocolate pie as well as a cake is on the dessert table here. But oh my does a ground cherry pie sound delectable. I am going to look for a recipe. Thank you for the suggestion. I wish you a very Happy Thanksgiving. Hugs
DeleteWow - I'm coming to your place for Thanksgiving! YUMMO! Lol. Thanks for the recipes on some of the dinner plans - going to look at some of them for Thanksgiving - we usually travel to dh's brother's house for the day.
ReplyDeleteLoving your new Maize House. Another on my list to do!
Thank you so so much for sharing your recipes and stitching gift with us. Blessings!
Come on over, Donna! We will have plenty of food to chow down on . Hee! Hee! It is so wonderful that you are able to spend the holiday with your family. Is it a long drive to your brother in laws ? I hope not. It usually takes us a couple of hours to get to hubby's family which gives me a chance to take a snooze before the next meal. LOL. Thank you for the sweet visit. Warm hugs.
DeleteLove The Maize House 🌽 It’s perfect for the fall and Thanksgiving season. Thank you. K from NY
ReplyDeleteAaaw you are so very welcome, K and thank you for the sweetest compliment. It stitched up pretty quickly. I had been dreaming of this house for awhile so it was nice to finally finish it. Have a wonderful evening. Hugs.
DeleteLots and lots of yummies for T-Day at your place--wowsers!! ;))) I'd love to see that laden table;))))
ReplyDeleteWe have a simpler meal for the five of us: we two, my daughter and two grandsons--usually more but we share T-Day with my son's inlaws and it's their year to have them for dinner...
I am interested to see how our new stove manages this big meal....we will convection bake Mr. Tom Turkey this year...while my son and family do a drop-in for appetizers...
Only 2 more weeks and then the Holiday "sche-mozzle" (is that a word-hahha???)truly begins...thesw days are flying by faster and faster as we age it seems...
Hugs, Julierose
We are definitely pumping up for the gathering. I just love turkey day don't you, Julierose? It sounds like you have a grand day in store as well. Mmmm keep me posted on how your turkey comes out. I am sure it will be quite delicious. Do y'all have appetizers in the evening? Yum! Yum! Oooh I like "she-mozzle" Hee! Hee! I am definitely ready for that! Warm hugs.
DeleteI clicked on several of your recipe links - looks like you've got everything covered! I see recipes on Dinner in 321 (@dinnerin321 on Instagram) that I'd like to try, but I tend to make the same things every year because the family doesn't appreciate new recipes- lol!
ReplyDeleteYour maize cross stitch is so cute!
Oooh I will have to look up Dinner in 321. I am not familiar with them. LOL I had to giggle because I have some picker eaters in my family too, but I try to add something new each year just to change it up and sometimes I am pleasantly surprised that they find a new favorite. All the little ones want is Mac and cheese though. Oh well. Hee! Hee! Thank you for the sweet visit, Linda. Hugs.
DeleteWow! Your Thanksgiving menu looks great. We usually have a large menu too. It looks like it will just be the two of us this year, so I will add a couple items from our usual Thanksgiving menu to each meal through the weekend. Thanks for sharing your recipes. I am going to make the cranberry marshmallow salad this year but I will be making more of your recipes.
ReplyDeleteI have added the Maize House to my stitch list. I love it and it will look wonderful with the Maize Sampler. With a reduced amount of Thanksgiving preparations needed, I will have more time to stitch. Alicia
That is such a great idea to add a bit of Thanksgiving to each meal throughout the week, Alicia. It will make the whole week extra special! Let me know how the cranberry salad turns out. It is one of our favorites. I just make it twice a year so I am really looking forward to it. Aaw more stitching time sounds delightful! It sounds like you will have a lovely Thanksgiving week. Warm hugs and Blessings.
DeleteWhat a Thanksgiving menu! What a day you have planned!!! I'm bringing sourdough rolls to my daughter's house for dinner. Your maize house is a cutie!--TerryK@OnGoingProjects
ReplyDeleteWe are definitely looking forward to it. Mmmm rolls are a must have. My daughter is always makes sure ours aren't burnt. LOL. I wish you and your family a very Happy Thanksgiving. Warm hugs.
DeleteLove the new house pattern!! Thank you so much for your generosity and for sharing your beautiful designs. I have been stitching a lot of Christmas stamps for the wood bowl on my dining room table. Your Thanksgiving menu is a long list of dishes - enjoy your holiday with your families. Carrie
ReplyDeleteOh Carrie, I am so excited to hear that you are working on the Christmas stamps. I hope you are enjoying every stitch. I am hoping to add some more to the collection this year. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Have a blessed day. Hugs.
DeleteWe've been discussing the menu for our Thanksgiving dinner. I think we've decided on brisket as the main, the daughter and husband are still fleshing out the sides. It's their thing, I'm just responsible for making the lists! Maize house is really cute. Happy stitching this week.
ReplyDeleteOh how lucky are you, Kate. Mmm brisket sounds yummy. I am so glad to hear that your daughter will be in for the holidays. I am sure they will come up with some amazing sides. I wish you a very lovely Thanksgiving season. Hugs.
DeleteOh, my grandma had that turkey platter, such memories! Marjorie Standish has a recipe called smashing squash. It uses zucchini with stuffing crumbs and we usually make it during the summer with the abundance of zucchini but I've also made it as a form of stuffing that is cooked in a casserole dish. Its always a fan favorite, either with a turkey or during any gathering. If you can't find it online and are interested, let me know and I will get it to you.
ReplyDeleteOooh that sounds very interesting, Shelly. I would love the recipe. Casseroles are always a big hit here and of course we love anything with zucchini or summer squash in it. We had zucchini running out of our ears this past summer which was so nice. I canned and froze some. It warms my heart that the turkey platter brought back such fond memories of your dear grandma. Thank you so much for the sweet Thursday visit. Hugs and Blessings.
Deletegood morning lovely Melisa.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your The Maize House and the Maize Basket Sampler projects. i think i already printed the basket sampler, but i printed that again "just in case". these are going to be so beautiful made up on cloth. yep, i just found my printed copy of the Maize Basket Sampler it is right next to my comfy chair ready to be stitched. it is with my O' Christmas Tree. squeal - i'm so excited.
you make the cutest patterns. i love them all. my little box (not so little anymore) is full to the top with paper copies of patterns i have printed. it is getting sooooo heavy. that's okay - i'll sort through it all.
your thanksgiving feast sounds yum yum yummy!!! that's enough food to feed an Army. i'm sure everyone will get up from the table fat and sassy. then you're onto another supper. oh my goodness that is so much food, but it is all shared with people you love and that makes the day extra special.
i hope you have a wonderful, blessed day sweetheart Melisa.
blessings and love are on the way to you.
Debra Broyles
Good Thursday afternoon, Miz Debra. I hope you have had a super day. It is finally starting warm back up here. It warms my heart that you like my Maize House and have printed so many of my charts out. I just fully finished O'Christmas Tree today. I am still trying to decide whether to add trim. Hmm I'm not sure. Gosh, we do have a lot of food for Thanksgiving. The whole family comes back for leftovers for days. Hee! Hee! As long as I have mom's turkey and dressing- I'm all good. LOL. Sending warm hugs and loads of love.
DeleteHola Meli feliz dia! Me hacen MUY feliz! besos
ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much, dear Dianet. Mr. Pinker's arm is feeling much better and he finally took his brace off. Thank you so much for checking on him. Aaw I am so touched that you like my newest little home. It warms my heart that you will be stitching it. I am working on your gorgeous Halloween Potion Jar now. I cannot wait for you to see it. I will be posting it soon. Eeeeh! Big hugs
DeleteYour Thanksgiving menu sounds so yummy, Melisa! That is A LOT of food--must be you either have a lot of folks coming or you enjoy all the leftovers for a few more days :) One of our Thanksgiving staples is Strawberry Pretzel Salad--not a salad, but we serve it with dinner. It wouldn't be Thanksgiving without it--ha ha! If you'd like the recipe, just shoot me an email! Your latest design is perfect for autumn--thank you so much! ♥
ReplyDeleteAaw thank you so much. Yep we have a lot of family and we love leftovers. Hee! Hee! The whole family will visit all weekend and eat the leftovers for dinner and supper. My MIL used to serve Strawberry Pretzel Salad- I had completely forgot about that until you mentioned it. I am going to see if I have the recipe if I don't then I will check in with you. I haven't had it in years ; it was always a favorite. Warm hugs and blessings.
DeleteOh my goodness Melisa! I love the new house. I still have to send you a picture of the the other Thanksgiving houses I finished. This one will definitely be high up on the list to stitch soon. Your Thanksgiving menu sounds delicious. I will have to check out some of the dishes as I am still planning my menu. I never know if I should branch out and try something new or stick with the same things.
ReplyDeleteI am so happy that you like it, Lisa. It was a little different compared to my usual Thanksgiving houses, but I had fun stitching it just the same. I cannot wait to see yours. Adding new dishes to the menu is always risky here. LOL, but I have been trying to introduce at least 1 new thing at each gathering. Sometimes it is a hit ; sometimes not. LOL. Have a great time preparing for the Thanksgiving season. I know you love it so. Hugs.
DeleteSuch a delicious sounding menu, although some of the dishes are quite new to me. 18 people is a big crowd to cook for.
ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much, Jenny. We are definitely looking forward to it.We are so fortunate that so many of the family members can attend. I wish they all could , but maybe Christmas time. Have a blessed day. Hugs.
DeleteWe just tried this recipe from Southern Bite. We'll make it again. Good! https://southernbite.com/sweet-corn-spoonbread/ Thanks for your blog! - Angela
ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much, Angela. I immediately found the recipe. This sounds super simple and I think the family would love it. Plus I have all the ingredients. Eeeh! It is going on my list. I wish you and your family a very Happy Thanksgiving . Hugs.
DeleteYour Thanksgiving menu sounds yummy, Melisa! I've been looking for a side dish that's a little different than what I've made other years, and your green bean casserole sounds good. Thanks for linking to the recipe! The maize house design is lovely!
ReplyDeleteOh I hope you enjoy it, Diann. There is a little more work than the traditional green bean casserole but it is worth it. The family really loves it during the holidays . I hope you enjoy. Warm hugs and blessings.
DeleteThe menu sounds delicious. Trying some new things can be fun but some of the "oldies but goodies" are hard to not have. Our gathering will be much smaller than yours, but I figure we will just have more leftovers. I can't even imagine going to another Thanksgiving meal! The Maize House is so pretty. Thank you so much for such a perfect seasonal stitch.
ReplyDeleteAlso, That turkey platter is beautiful!
DeleteSuch a darling house, Melisa! I think I'll just come have Thanksgiving with you! My kiddos will be camping Thanksgiving week in south AL and they have a camp wide Thanksgiving lunch there. But usually they do Thanksgiving at Big Ds mom's because we claimed Christmas always! LOL So we'll probably head to Cracker Barrel for lunch or somewhere! One year we were in Pigeon Forge for Thanksgiving and nothing was open...except the pizza buffet, so we had pizza for Thanksgiving! I don't think that place is even there anymore. Oh well. Have a wonderful holiday. I would love to have Nanny's Cornbread Salad recipe - I do love it!
ReplyDeleteI love the new house design Melisa! Of course it will go to my to-do list and I don't know how long it will take me, but I'll make this beauty, thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteHugs
Thank you for the lovely new house! It will make a lovely stitch project and a perfect addition for my Autumn dough bowl!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing! I so appreciate your patterns.
ReplyDeleteMelisa, my most requested food dish to bring to our office lunches was my broccoli salad. Everyone said they could not make it like mine. Well, I tried to explain to them LUCYs was the texture was the difference. When I clean my broccoli I take off the outer skin and I chop the florets off at their very ends so they are small and I chop the stems small. Everything is about the size of the raisins. And NO I do NOT put bacon in my salad. I received the recipe in 1993. Dressing 3/4 to 1 cup mayo, 1/2 cup sugar (I use less) 2Tb.milk, 1 Tb vinegar. 2 bunches of fresh broccoli, cut up (NOT big chunks) 1 small red onion, sliced, 1 cup raisins and 1 cut walnuts, chopped. Pour the dressing over salad about an hour before serving. Also, I have a Snickers Salad, Chop 6 regular size snicker bars into small pieces, Dice 4 Granny Smith apples, Mix toether with a large container of Cool Whip and one large can of crushed pineapple. This a little differnet tastes.
ReplyDeleteBlessings to you and yours for a very special Thanksgiving.
