A Great Day to Be Stitching and " Speaking of Christmas -Holly" Freebie

This week's quilt stack comes straight from the kitchen!  😀

Good Slow Stitching Sunday, y'all.  It is a good day to sit back in our jammies, prop up our feet and stitch the day away. Don't you think?

Anywhooo.. Since a lot of us will be spending time in the kitchen this week , we better get in all of the stitching time we can in.😀

In the kitchen , I have   a small selection of quilts all rolled up into little bundles and tucked into vintage sifters.

Soon those sifters will be put into work , sifting flour as I  prep for baking .

Here is a yummy no bake pie recipe which is perfect for the holiday season.

PUMPKIN GINGERSNAP PIE
INGREDIENTS:
1 1/2 cups cold half and half, light cream or milk
1 package ( 4 serving size) Jello Vanilla Flavor Instant Pudding and Pie Filling
3 1/2 cups Cool Whip Whipped Topping , thawed
1 cup chopped pecans
1 cup of chopped ginger snap cookies
1/2 cups canned pumpkin
1 1/2 Tablespoons of pumpkin pie spice
1 graham cracker pie crust
DIRECTIONS:
1. Pour half and half into large bowl. Add pie filling mix. Beat until well blended - about 1 minute. Let stand for 5 minutes.
2. Fold in whipped topping, pecans, gingersnaps, pumpkin and pumpkin pie spice. Spoon into crust.
3. Freeze until firm, about 6 hours or overnight. Remove from freezer and let stand about 10 minutes to soften before serving. Store any leftovers in the freezer.

I have to admit I have had a rip-roaring humdinger of a week.😀😁 No, not a lot of drama  has been going on --well, except for The Mysterious Case of the Missing Santas  which is still ongoing. ( If you missed that mystery,  please hop over to that post. Where could those Santas be?  )  But my week has been filled with lots of time working with needle and thread .

Earlier this week , I worked on Moda's Holiday Stitch Along Block 1 .  This was a SAL from way back in 2020 that is still available.

Today I will work on Block 2.

I also finished ornament 3 of the Speaking of Christmas series
This one is simply named "Holly"

I  finished it into a simple pillow , framed  with some leftover 1 1/2" unfinished fabric strips and some crocheted lace.

Large wonky black X's were stitched along the bottom seam. The large wooden snowflake came from Dollar Tree.

It's a Holly Jolly Christmas ! It's the best time of the year....

Three Speaking of Christmas ornaments/ bowl tucks all whipped up. There will be at least 4 more to come this year. Maybe more later.

🧵🧵🧵🧵🧵🧵🧵🧵🧵🧵🧵🧵🧵🧵🧵🧵🧵🧵

If you are interested in stitching this piece,  just grab , the images. For printing tips, refer to the post Tips for Printing which has loads of tips from my sweet friends.

🧵🧵🧵🧵🧵🧵🧵🧵🧵🧵🧵🧵🧵🧵🧵🧵🧵🧵

I will start a new ornament  today.

In the evenings, I enjoy sitting back on the couch and working on my Bow Tie quilt.  I expect I will do that tonight as well. 7 more blocks to go. Quilt, quilt, quilt!

Well  Sweeties, we better get to work if we are going to have a humdinger of a day. Now grab your needle and thread and let's start to stitching. 😀🤗

 As Always...

Happy  Stitching and Quilting,

 y'all

Melisa

    1. Oh how wonderful, Isabel. You are staying busy as well. I have always wanted to make an Advent calendar. My daughter purchases one each year for the children. They find much Joy in it. Best wishes as you work on your projects this week. Hugs and Blessings.

  7. As I finished reading my first thought was "start your needles". So, I'm coming to spend a stitching day with you. OK? ROFLOL I love the wonderful ornaments - the simplicity is very appealing to me. Today I'm hoping to finish a Christmas x-stitch pillow that's taken entirely too long and starting to bug me. It's time to git her done. Thanksgiving will be very quiet this year - just me, myself and I but that's ok I'll spend it with a needle in my hand, like I spend most days. No complaints from me.
You'll have your bow tie quilt finished in no time. Enjoy your day and stay in your jammies - it's a jammie day for me. woohoo!! Big, big hugs, DarleneJ

    1. LOL Come on over, Miss Darlene. The Christmas lights are on, the music is playing and we can stitch the day away! It sounds like you are on a mission to finish your Christmas pillow. You go girl! I have some "year old +" stitches that are nagging at me too. Hee! Hee! Will they get finished this year? Hmmm I am not sure. LOL. Enjoy your jammie day. I sure am! Love ya'! Warm hugs.

    1. Oh thank you so much, Carol. I had searched in the stores for a sprig of teeny Holly in hopes to embellish the ornament. Maybe I will find some later , but for now the snowflake will do. It helped tone down the red which seemed brighter once I had pieced the pillow. Have a blessed and beautiful day. Hugs.

  9. That sounds like a yummy pie, Melisa! Thanks for sharing the recipe. Your "Holly" design reminds me of a sweet friend who I used to teach with, whose name was Holly. She always said that when she was growing up, she was just sure that song (Have a Holly Jolly Christmas) was written just for her! So it always makes me think of her, too. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving week!

    1. I am looking forward to making it for Thanksgiving. I had thought about substituting the vanilla pudding with pumpkin spice pudding but I will not experiment today. LOL. Aaw what a sweet memory of your friend. I had a friend named Joy and every time I see or stitch an ornament with that word I think of her. Have a beautiful day, Diann. Hugs.

you have had a humdinger of a week. poor missing Santa's. i've been searching for them, but i haven't seen them yet. they will probably make their appearance around Easter bunny time. i hope you find them soon. missing things makes me a crazy person!!! my mind just won't stop churning wondering where, oh where!
thank you for the new ornament. i have it printed and it is ready to go with the o christmas tree and tree farm ornaments. i'm excited to get started. i just need to find floss in my bag of goodies.
i'm going to my oldest daughter's house, Angela, today for a thanksgiving feast. she is going to her other home in Yuma for the holiday. i'm so proud of that young lady. she is so special to me and i am so happy God sent her to me. i was going to name her Amber Dawn, but when i laid my eyes on her she looked like an angel so she was named Angela Lee. my middle name is Lee and the tradition was passed on to Angela's daughter, Amanda Lee. i am so proud of Amanda, too. she has grown up to be an amazing young lady. she is my only granddaughter and the most wonderful granddaughter in the world. i am so proud of her as well. i love all my grandchildren to the moon and back. they are all amazing and i am so proud of them. the boys are Gavin Michael and Aidan Matthew.
well now you have the history of my grandchildren. they are the best in my eyes. so loving and special. can you tell i am happy to call them mine Melisa? i guess i should quit bragging. we gramma's think all of our grandchildren are the best.
i hope you have a fantastic day. it's going to be wonderful. i think the rain has past us, but it has been a beautiful week. the air fresh and everything made anew.

  13. Rolling the little quilts and putting them in the sifters is a wonderful idea - I shared it with my sister as she has vintage sifters. I am getting my response to your post later because my daughter came today and we celebrated with our Thanksgiving meal. I made your pie and we loved it. Thanks for the recipe - she took half of it home LOL. I really like the Holly ornament and I have printed it. I have many Thanksgiving patterns that I haven’t stitched yet, but you have inspired me to switch to Christmas patterns. I am finally starting to stitch today. Alicia

Aaw I am so happy you shared the idea of rolling the quilts and placing them into sifters. It was a fun way to use them. It is so exciting that you have started working on Christmas stitching. I have been working on stitched gifts today. Are you going to be making ornaments? Have a lovely day and a blessed Thanksgiving week, Alicia. Hugs.

  14. The pie recipe sounds yummy but I don't make pumpkin pie very often, anymore, since I'm the only one who will eat pumpkin. That could get me into too much calorie trouble right from the get go of the holiday season of goodies. The newest Holly stitch is so pretty. Thank you so much. The Moda SAL is a pretty one. I look forward to seeing what you do with those finished embroidery blocks.

    1. LOL Ginny, I know what you mean about getting into " calorie trouble" during the holidays. This is a special time of year with so many treats - well one has to be choosy. I am having a ball working on the embroidery block. It is a good "on the go " project. So I hope to finish 1 a week - we shall see though. Warm hugs and blessings.
