A Fall Farm Stroll and a Little Quilt

Good morning from the ole' farmstead. How are you doing on this lovely Wednesday morning?

Cows are being moved from one section of the farm to the other.

We are getting ready for the winter season. Bev is one of our favorites. She is as smart as a whip.

Meet Miss Bev.

Do you remember Big Bad Brad who was as gentle as a lamb? Well he has been sold to another farm. A new bull will arrive in months to come.

Old Big Bad Brad and Gertie

In the Bee Yard, the bees are doing great. Mr. Pinker says one hive is as mean as a bunch of rattlesnakes, but he enjoys working with all of the hives.

Edna says "Howdy". It has been a spell since you have seen a close up of her. She has a soft spot in my heart.

Back at home, a new little quilt is completed and ready to be displayed for these last few days of the fall season.

By the way if you are interested in the little "Gobbler" in the background drop back by around noon . He is my latest freebie- in the Mason Jar Series.  Anywooo...

A few years ago, I worked on this simple wool applique using clothing from the thrift stores.
I drew out the motifs wiley niley and used the buttonhole stitch to applique them down.
The background fabric is an old  shirt.

I framed the block using fabrics from more shirts creating a little churn dash.

It did not take long to bind this little quilt.

Now since this fall project is done, I am on to the next little quilt. I am not sure which one will go into the hoop next.

Thank you for  taking a stroll with me on the farm today and for looking at my little quilt.
See ya' later! 🤗

  2. Your new little quilt is adorable. So much activity going on at the farm. I just finished stitching a turkey freebie I found. I just need to turn it into a pillow. I find I like stitching more than finishing. I plan on tackling my pile of stitching in the coming year. I love the turkey mason jar and hope you will share it. Have a great Wednesday!

    1. Oh we will. He was so easy going and gentle. He was a good fit with all of the cows. Isn't Edna a sweetie? She is in better spirits than she was last week when Rodster left. Thank you so much for the kind words on my new little quilt. Have a blessed day. Hugs.

    1. Gosh, I will too . I hope the next bull will be just as gentle and has a personality as well. LOL. Oreo and her sister, Double stuff are spoiled rotten. They made the decision that they would not be barn cats and spend most of their time at the house. There is nothing like life on the farm . Thank you for the sweet visit, Brenda. Hugs.

  9. I love the tours of your farm! Bev does look quite intelligent, and will she get along with the new bull do you think? Your thrift store plaids look beautiful with the wool applique in that pretty churn dash! I love Oreo, I bet he is one happy barn kitty. Or is he indoor too?

    1. Oh thank you so much, Linda. I always look forward for the cows to come down to where I can see them. Bev is a pretty good girl . She doesn't mind getting away from the herd when she wants to be alone. Now we do have one heifer that is sorta ornery . LOL. Oreo is an outdoor cat, but she spends most of her time on the patios, porches and garages. I was sorta surprised to see her at the barn. Have a great evening. Hugs.

  11. good morning sunshine Melisa.
i hope you day is going well. mine has just gotten started, but i have already accomplished a lot. i think i am going to have a busy day today.
what is gertie going to do without her boyfriend, big old Brad? he had his fun on your farm. he also had a lot of fun with the ladies. Edna is such a beautiful donkey. i just love her. she looks really friendly. how can you not love the beautiful Bev? she is so pretty. her coat is a very shiny brown. she must visit the watering hole quite a bit to stay hydrated and clean. Oreo now he's a lover. he looks like his fur is sooooo soft. a very, very beautiful kitty. does he come in the house on occasion?
i will definitely stop by at noon today. i can't wait to print the amazing Gobble pattern. it is a sure project i want to work on. do you think i'll finish it by thanksgiving? highly unlikely for this year, perhaps by 2027 i'll have it done. if i have it done sooner i'll be sure to let you know.
i love all your photos this morning Melisa. i would give anything to live on a farm and have cows, pigs, donkey's, horses, chickens, kitties, and more. it would make my life heaven, but let's be realistic i would have had to have been on that farm in my 30's. at this age it is not going to happen. too many responsibilities in my home life that demand my attention. i love your photos Melisa. please keep sending them.
i pray you have an awesome Wednesday Melisa. it's going to be a great one.
blessings and love are coming your way. a great big bear hug, too.

    1. Good afternoon, sweet Debra and Happy Happy Wednesday. It was a good day here. We got a spot of rain and it was in the 70's - so a nice day indeed. I spent most of time sewing and finishing a few pieces. Aren't the animals a hoot? Some of them have strong personalities too. Oreo is a patio kitty. She likes to explore the sheds and outbuildings too. I was a bit surprised to see her visiting the barn cats. LOL . Aaw I am so happy that you like my new turkey jar. It took me a spell to finish it but I am glad to have it finished by the holiday. I hope you enjoy it. I hope you are having a good week.I know you have a lot going on and are staying busy , but do take time for yourself , sweet friend. Sending love and hugs.
