Winter 1869 Crock- Winter Freebie

Good morning, ya'll ! It is a very rainy Friday - a great day to sit inside and work on a bit of stitching.  I have a new addition to my crock collection. This is called Winter Crock.

It is a wee crock filled with an evergreen and a bit of berry vines.   Of course , I had to include a sweet cardinal. What do you think?

Now my Winter Crock may look a tad different than what was charted. You guessed it, I made a few boo boos and rather than frogging it , I continued on . I am  fine with a leaf moved here or there.

Any whoo. I stitched mine on 14 count tea/ coffee dyed aida. I loved how the fabric turned out . It is always a hit or miss with me. I used 6 DMC floss colors 221, 3866 ( for the crock and snowflakes) , 918 , 895, 839 and 3371

If you are interested in stitching the  Winter 1869 Crock,  grab the images below. Many of ya'll know but I always encourage you to read my little disclaimer and note about getting my charts.

NOTE: Normally I have been able to create links to the charts and instructions which were in JPG form. For some reason, recent updates on Google Docs. has prevented me from doing that and I am not able to create a pdf without having to deal with storage issues.  Many dear stitchers say they right click, save the image and then print.  I think some have copied and pasted it to a Word document that they can print off as well. I hope you are able to find a way to enjoy this chart. You will have to click each page to save. Thank you so much for your patience and understanding and for all of the helpful tips and ideas.

Many of you know , but I always like to leave this little disclaimer.

I stitch my little designs for fun and to decorate my home. I feel very blessed by this community and love sharing my little charts, but I am not a professional designer. And I do not have professional software. Thank you for understanding . I am always grateful for your kind encouragement , your visits, and for stitching my little designs.

The color charts colors are sorta dark so I included of course the symbol chart, but I do want to tell you the symbols as well
The Tree boughs and the leaves symbol is  G and is 895
The Tree Trunk's  and the vines' symbol is X and is 839
The berries and cardinal's symbol is R and is 221.
918 is used just once and that is for the cardinal's beak.
Hope that helps.

Have you seen my other crocks? Well if you haven't, just click on the links and pop right over to the previous post. You might find one that strikes your fancy for a holiday or seasonal stitch.

  1. I love this! Thank you so much. A question...is there a reason for the 1869 date? Just curious - thinking maybe your homestead?

    1. Oh thank you so much, Donna. This is one of my favorites out of the crocks. The 1869 is a nod to a distant ancestor. It was their birth year. I like to do things like that in a lot of my stitches. Hope you had a great weekend.

  3. I love the crock addition and I love the John Muir quote. Thank you so much for both. We had a rainy (for us-continuous light sprinkles) day on Wednesday. Wouldn't you know that this morning, weeds are sprouting all ove the front desert landscape, ugh!! Thought I was done for the year, LOL!! I will look in later for you parade of patterns later today. Thank you for taking the time to keep us in stitches. All the best, warm hugs from sunny Arizona.

    1. Oh goodness, Mary. I hope the weather was much nicer this weekend. I would love to see the desert landscape after a rain. I can imagine the weeds sprouting , but oh yes weeds can be a pill to have to pull especially in unwanted areas. It rained on Friday here and it turned quite chilly. It's sweater time here. Lol. Thank you for the sweet visit, dear Mary. Hugs and blessings.

    1. Aaah thank you so much, Diana. This is one of my favorites of the crocks . I like to put dates on some of my stitches that remind me of some of my distant relatives. This date is a nod at one of great great grandparents. I have seen many stitchers put their own dates on the crocks which is so much fun. Have a great week, my friend.
