And a berry good morning to you! Yes! It's berry season. Nah! not strawberry- that has long since come and gone, but blueberry season.
My oldest grandson is in blueberry heaven. He loves blueberries. In fact, he eyes the blueberry bushes like a hawk waiting for the first hint of a berry turning blue. He monitors them year round ; most of the time, Mr. Pinker and I are telling him it's not blueberry season yet. But when it is time, he is up on the hill picking till his little heart and belly is content. We just have a few bushes on the chert hill; they must love chert for they certainly are productive.
Mom and Dad used to have over 200 bushes and would sell fresh berries by the gallons. A few years ago, dad cut down almost all of the bushes and converted the land back to pasture. My little blueberry picker would have loved that field of berries.
I've been dreaming of canning blueberry preserves, but I do not know if that will be possible . Maybe. Of course my little Blueberry Picker has 1st reins. 💙😃🤗

Aunt Betty loves blueberries and has a crop of them growing in a basket on her roof of all places.

Oh, yum! We used to pick wild blueberries when we camped along the shore of Lake Superior in August. Now there is a sweet memory! Another children's book is The Blueberry Bears by Eleanor Lapp. You can guess what happens when Bessie picks all the blueberries and keeps them in her cabin.

DeleteOh, I'm in love with your newest saltbox house. I like decorating with blue so this one is on my to do list for sure. Also, my mom's name was Betty. She would buy tons of blueberries when in season and freeze them. Some she made into blueberry sauce and dad would pour it over his daily breakfast of oatmeal. She also loved to bake and of course that included blueberry pies. She was know for her baked goods that she entered into the Jasper county fair every year. Always winning ribbons for her delicious pies, cakes and cookies. I sure miss her and wish I had even half of her gift of baking.

DeleteMy Aunt had a blueberry patch in her large garden area. Having 8 boys, large gardens were a must to feed her crew of growing men! Buckles are right up there with cobblers. Blueberry would be so very tasty. Aunt Betty's saltbox is a beauty! Love the ornate lawn. Thank you!

DeleteThank you for the sweet design. I do LOVE berries! I love picking and eating them. In our house it is the Huckleberry. Huckleberries are not easy to pick. Usually in the hot sun on a mountainside. Sadly, we don't live in North Idaho where my husband grew up picking these berries. Luckily, I have a couple quarts left from a picking adventure a couple years ago. We are definitely making plans to go next summer. I started stitching this design last night and will probably stitch a second with purple colors as the Huckleberry comes in purple and red varieties. :-) Thank you for your generosity in sharing your designs. I would love to see a "Tuscan" Saltbox someday. Maybe with lemons.
