Flurry & Flakes SAL - Winter Welcome Block 1 - Snowman Embroidery Freebie

Whoo Hoo!!  It's official , here in the holler we are going to have a SNOWY WINTER!! How do I know ? Well I checked the seeds- the persimmon seeds .

Granny always said that was a good way to predict the winter weather.  And the seeds show a spoon ,and you know what that means- Pull out the old snow shovel for flurries will be in the forecast come winter time.

So in celebration , I thought why not work on another snowman quilt. Now I ask you. Can you ever have too many snowman quilts? I think not. This one will be called FLURRY & FLAKES.

A year ago tomorrow, I  began the Frosty McChill Embroidery QAL. Can you believe it has been that long?  My how time flies.  I shared 12 blocks in which I stitched mine in red. I saw so many different versions of this quilt which warmed my heart. Thank you all who participated and who are still working on theirs  today like I am. My Frosty McChill is going into the quilt hoop for my 2022 Winter project.

 .

If you would like those embroidery patterns  , click here to go to the final posting which will give you links to all of the blocks or you can click Frosty McChill in the sidebar and find all of the post which this quilt was mentioned .

I look forward to some slow stitching on this quilt.

Now back to FLURRY & FLAKES.  I  have been dreaming of another embroidered snowman quilt for quite awhile. For my new quilt ,  I am thinking of a small wall hanging of just 5 Snowman blocks with 4 alternate blocks .  I will be embroidering mine in black . If you are interested in joining me, I would be tickled pink.  I will be sharing a block for the next 5 Thursdays. You decide what color floss you want to use, whether to use the stem or backstitch  and how you want to set your blocks. You may want to stitch one or all of them. That's up to you.  I will share what I do with mine - though as of right now, I have not got all of the particulars worked out.

FLURRY & FLAKES is going to be about the day to day happenings of a snow family.

The first block is called Winter Welcome. I cut my white fabric 10 1/2"   square and after the embroidery, trimmed it to 8 1/2" . I embroidered mine using the back stitch using 2 strands of black floss. For the eyes, I used a French Knot.

If you would like to embroider "Winter Welcome" , grab the image below, pull out your fabric and floss and go to town.

NOTE: Normally I have been able to create links to the charts and instructions which were in JPG form. For some reason, recent updates on Google Docs. has prevented me from doing that and I am not able to create a pdf without having to deal with storage issues.  . Many dear stitchers say they right click, save the image and then print.  I think some have copied and pasted it to a Word document that they can print off as well. I hope you are able to find a way to enjoy this   doodle. . Thank you so much for your patience and understanding and for all of the helpful tips and ideas.

Well I am off to start Block 2 , I am going to try to stay a week ahead, but we will see.  Later this evening, Mr. Pinker and I are headed out on a short camping trip . I have a weekend of sewing in store for me.

Now  if you have the chance,   check those persimmon seeds and see what winter has store for you.😃😄❄☃⛄

  8. Thanks so much, Melisa!! This snowman is cute! Here in AL we "predict" the severity of winter by the coloring on the wooly worms! LOL

    1. Aaah thank you so much , Brenda. He is a fun little snowman to work on . We look at wooly worms too. Hmmm is that a southern thing? I just couldn't find a wooly worm in the vicinity. Tee Hee. I did notice that our squirrel's tails are awfully bushy another sign of a cold winter. lol .

  10. I am looking forward to stitching this snowman. It may have to wait until January, but I will get there. I have to go look for fabric and floss now and kit everything up. I have never heard of the persimmon prediction.

    1. Aah thank you so much, Cathie. I hope you enjoy it. January would be a great time to work on a snowman quilt. I do not know if persimmon prediction is a southern thing or not, but we check them every year. Lol.

    1. Oh thank you so much, Linda. I truly appreciate the sweet mention. Lol I agree some of the old ways of predicting weather is a lot more accurate than the technology we have now. Lol. Have a great weekend. I look forward to catching up on your posts.

  14. Unfortunately I can not print off the showman chart! Boohoo! I have tried everything I can think of. I can't get it to paste into anything once I've copied it. Does anyone have any suggestions? Such a cute series I'd love to stitch along!!!

    1. You probably need to download it to your computer and then place it in a document. Right-click on the image, select "Save Image As" and give it a name. You can either just print the image itself or put it in a document to resize it. I hope that helps! {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

    2. Oh no, I am so sorry, dear. I just hate that I have had to change how I share things. It was so much easier before the google change. I opened up google docs and dragged the image to a document and then resized and printed. Dear Roseanne has some tips on how she did it as well. I wish I was more tech savvy so I could be of better help.
