Flurry & Flakes SAL - The Pieced Blocks

And a very Happy Thursday to you ,my friends. I can not say that it is a frosty morning, but it is a foggy rainy day.

This is the 4th day in a row that it has been raining ,and another day of rain is predicted for tomorrow. But I am not complaining for I have enjoyed each and every rainy day. 🤗🌧🌈☔

I had such a delightful time in the kitchen yesterday when we did a bit of Christmas baking.

Hasn't Carol's Christmas Cookie Exchange blog hop been a lot of fun? Lots of ideas, inspiration, and recipes galore for our baking pleasure. Do you feel like you put on some pounds just from reading and looking at the yummy treats?

Today is the last day of the Cookie Exchange so please pop in to visit the dear ladies that are sharing today. I am sure there are sweet treats- just make sure you have your stretchy pants on when you drop in .

Any whoo! Today is Embroidery Thursday, and I am continuing on with my Flurry & Flakes SAL . Have you got your blocks ready?
Let me show you all the blocks with the cute as a button "Flake family." These are going to be a hoot to piece into a quilt.

BLOCK 1  WINTER WELCOME"

BLOCK 2- Snow Day

BLOCK 3  SNOW RACE

Today , we are working on  4 blocks to go along with the embroidered blocks.

I used 3 fabrics which were just what I had in my stash. I had about a fat quarter  of each.
FOR ONE BLOCK
You will be cutting the following

From WHITE fabric, CUT  4- 2 1/2" 2 1/2" squares
From WHITE fabric- CUT 1  - 4 7/8" x 4 7/8" square
From PRINT BLACK fabric, CUT 4 -2 1/2" 2 1/2" squares
From 2nd BLACK fabric,- CUT 1 - 4 7/8" x 4 7/8" square

Are you ready to sew? Well let's get the sewing machine a humming.

From the white and black  2 1/2" squares we are going to create 2 four patches.  Easy Peasy Right? !!!!
Now onto the half square triangles.  Take the white and black 4  7/8" square and place the right sides together. Draw a diagonal line from point to point  (This will be your cutting line AFTER you have sewn ). Then draw a   diagonal line 1/4" on each side of the previous line ( This will be your sewing lines) .
Once you have sewn, cut down the center diagonal line and press the HSTs to the black.  .

Now it's time to lay out our block units.

Using the layout for reference, sew the units together using a 1/4 seam allowance and press.

Woo Hoo!!! One block is complete  .

Follow the same process to MAKE 3 MORE.

Well that is it for this week's Flurry & Flakes SAL . Next week we will add the borders.
HOLD THE PRESSES!!!! Since you have the white and black print fabric out  and your sewing machine is already buzzing along, let's get ahead of the game for next week's border.

I decided to add 4 patches as the cornerstone blocks in the border . So let's cut some more 2 1/2" squares .

FOR BORDER CORNERSTONE BLOCKS

From WHITE fabric, CUT  8- 2 1/2" 2 1/2" squares
From PRINT BLACK fabric, CUT 8 -2 1/2" 2 1/2" squares
From these you will make 4 more 4 patches
I do believe I have about  a half yard of a 3rd black fabric in my stash that I can use as a border. I do wish I had some wintery snowflake fabric, but I will make do with what I have.  Next week, we will  add the  simple borders.

Well, my dears, I am going to sit and sew the day away while watching  some Christmas movies.  Thank you so much for stopping in for a visit. Have a beautiful day and ...

As always...

Happy  Stitching and Quilting,

 ya'll

Melisa

Thank you for the sweet visit.

Your never too old to play in the snow!

Dedicated to my dear baby sister Amy .  Love and miss ya. ❤❤❤❤
