Piecing Peppermint Pinwheels

Howdy do, Honey Pies and a very Wonderful Wednesday to you! How are you doing on this lovely Fall day. Me? Well I am fine and dandy.  Do you know the ole' saying  "When the  cats away - the mice will play"? Well Mr. Pinker is out working so  I will have the whole day here to myself - quilting the day away . Imagine me with my arms filled with fabric as I swirl about in glee!  Though I will miss Mr. Pinker as he traipses out in the woods,  uninterrupted  quilting time is quite welcomed.

🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪

Yesterday I sat down to the sewing machine as Burl Ives serenaded me on the cd player .It was not long before he whisked me away to a winter wonderland filled with sleigh bells ringing and jingling, and the halls were being decked.

Soon I was joined in-  singing "Fa la la la la la  la la la la..." as I cut my 2 1/2 strips.

Mr. Pinker broke my  concentration when he entered into the sewing room singing   "Fa La La La La ! La La La La!" in his booming voice. "  Whatcha' working on? " he asked

Tickled by his singing I chuckled  and then replied with a smile , " Well, I am whipping up a batch of Peppermint Pinwheels ."

"Hmmm sounds yummy! "  He looked down at my blocks that I had already laid out. "But that does not look like anything I would eat. Don't you already a gazillion  projects in the works? "

"I sure do! " I said merrily." What's wrong with a gazillion and one, " I reasoned.
"Not a thing, " he said as he smiled and  walked away humming a little Christmas diddy. "

My Peppermint Pinwheels are going to measure 8 1/2" squared unfinished  ( 8 " finished).

If you would like to make some of your own, here are the measurements I am using. ( I like to write them down here just in case I forget in the future. 🙄LOL)

CUTTING FOR 1 BLOCK
CUT 1- Red fabric  2 1/2" x 18 "
CUT 1- Green fabric  2 1/2" x 18 "

SEWING
1. Sew the red and green fabrics together using 1/4" seam allowance. Press.
2. Subcut strips into 4 1/2" lengths.
3. Layout block as shown  and piece. WAHLAH! A super simple block .

If you are using scraps, just simply cut 2 1/2" x 4 1/2" rectangles for your block. You will need 4 of each color.

PEPPERMINT PINWHEELS RECIPE
YIELDS : 18
 INGREDIENTS:
1 cup of softened butter
1 1/4 cup sugar
2 large eggs
1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract
3 cups of all purpose flour
1/2 teaspoons of baking powder
1/2 teaspoon of salt
1 teaspoon of peppermint extract
1 teaspoon of red food coloring

DIRECTIONS:
🍪 1. In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar until fluffy ( about 3 to 4 minutes) , stopping to scrape sides of bowl. Add eggs , one at a time  and continue beating well. Add extracts and beat.

🍪 2. In a medium bowl, whisk, flour, baking powder and salt. Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture , beating until well combined. Divide dough in half , beat food coloring into one half of the dough. Wrap the dough in portions in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 1 hour.

🍪 3. Roll each piece of dough between sheets of parchment paper to form a rectangle around 11"x 9" and 1/4 " thick. Remove top pieces of parchment and stack dough on top of each other. Roll layered dough to 12" x 10" trim edges . Starting at one long side, tightly roll dough into a log using the parchment paper to help roll. Refrigerate for 1 hour.

🍪 4. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line baking sheet with parchment paper.
🍪 5 . Unwrap dough . Trim ends. Using a serrated knife, cut log into 2/3 inch slices. Place 1 inch apart on baking sheet.

🍪 6. Bake until set - about 12-15 minutes. Place on cooling rack. Cool completely.

OK back to the sewing machine I go! I have  at least 10 more blocks to piece  for the day.

🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪

May your day be filled with sugar sprinkles and peppermint kisses.

As Always...

  1. Good morning to you. Well, for me the Christmas songs a bit too early, but..... I listened to the new album "Songbird" by Waylon Jennings. I think my neighbours thought there's party time again in my house. Hahaha!! Listening and stitching my work yesterday.
Thank you for ther receipe, I will try it. I do hope I will not gain weight.
I am sure the new quilt will look beautiful but this is nothing for me. All the seams...... oh no! I take the saying: Cobbler, stick to your last.
I wish you a wonderful day and hold the needle,

  2. Your relationship with Mr Pinker reminds me so much of my relationship with my sweet man who is now in his recliner in Heaven. Here's to your wonderful marriage with much, much love and happiness.
Yummy, yum, yum - the pinwheels are delightfully sweet and a perfect holiday quilt. I putzed about most of the day but toward the end of the afternoon I finally settled down to sew. YeeHaw - an easy peasy Christmas themed quilt. I wanted to do more but I misplaced my fabric - LOL. That may be a sign telling me to clean and finish relocating my sewing stuff. But, but, that's not fun. LOL Happy Wednesday and enjoy your pinwheels. Big hugs, DarleneJ

    1. Eeeeh time at the sewing machine! I am glad you were able to begin your Christmas quilt , Miss Darlene. I do hope you find your fabric soon. Isn't that so frustrating when something goes missing right when you need it? LOL I got sidetracked from my sewing machine for awhile but then it was back to business. Have a lovely afternoon, sweet friend. Warm hugs and Blessings.

  10. good morning sweetheart Melisa.
i'm in peppermint glory. a new peppermint pinwheels recipe and peppermint quilt pattern - oh heaven - the bells are ringing. you know what is putting the icing on the pattern - i just purchased some limited edition peppermint ice cream from albertsons. oh my, i need to get my peppermint pinwheels and the little quilt ready to place my ice cream bowl upon.
it's a very busy day for me. i need to go to costco and pickup some meds for my husband, go to the bank, and then come back and grab my sister so we can get to the hospital to see our mom. i'm telling you my mom always told me life would mellow with age. bologna i say. i want to be ten again. life was so much easier when i was young. it's something - age - isn't it? we want to be older yet when we get there - yikes - are you kidding me. i love seeing my grandbabies all graduated from high school and all three in their individual daily jobs, but i just miss being younger. oh well, grow up Debra. pull up your big girl panties. times a movin' on!!! haha
i hope you have an awesome day Melisa. i am going to have a fabulous day. it's going to be sunny, nature is glorious in all its beauty and i'm above ground which is always a welcome sign from God.
blessings and love are coming your way sweet lady. a great big squeezy hug, too.

You are not kidding about being young! What I wouldn't give for the good ole' days again. LOL. Oh well. I am still young heart or at least I try to be. Hee! Hee! Oooh Peppermint ice cream. I will have to see if our stores have any in stock yet. I always enjoy Snow Cream made by a nearby dairy too. Yum Yum! Maybe I will treat myself to an ice cream this weekend. Well Sweetie, I will let you go. Have a great evening. Big Bear hugs and lots of love.

    2. good morning sweet Melisa.
thank you for the prayers for my mom. the saga is not over yet. the hospital has been conducting many studies on her heart and blood circulation/flow. she has minimal flow in both legs and almost nothing in the right leg. they have her on heparin, therefore, she isn't allowed to go home because she may fall and bleed to death. the vascular team is going to conduct two surgeries on friday: femoral endarterectomy and after that an angioplasty. she will more than likely have an amputation of the ring toe on the right foot. i really don't know how the outcome will be. she is 92 and surgeries at her age, with afib and congestive heart failure, are always tricky. that's all i know and i'm shaking in my shoes. thank you so much for the much needed prayer. please send an extra one late friday morning or early afternoon.
thank you for all you do Melisa.
blessings and love are on the way to you. a great big squeezy hug is coming, too.
my mom is waiting for her big squeezy hug and will get hers around 12:00 today.

  25. For almost a year, my husband left me and our two children. He stopped caring, stopped calling, and was completely gone. I was broken, confused, and nearly lost hope. Then one day, a friend told me about Dr. Dawn, a spiritual man gifted by the universe to help people restore love and peace.

At first, I was doubtful, but something about his words gave me peace. He told me exactly what was wrong and that someone had cast a strong spell to separate us. He prepared a special spiritual work and a reunion spell for me — and within a few days, my husband called me out of nowhere, crying and asking for forgiveness.

Since that moment, my life has never been the same. Our marriage is now the sweetest and happiest on earth. We love each other more than ever, and our home is filled with laughter and blessings.

But that’s not all — Dr. Dawn also helped to clear the bad luck and negative energy that surrounded our family. Since then, everything has been smooth: peace in our home, financial progress, good health, and pure joy.

I thank the universe every day for leading me to Dr. Dawn. He’s truly a man of divine power and light. If you are going through any situation — heartbreak, bad luck, or confusion — don’t give up. Reach out to him and let the universe work through him to change your story, just like he changed mine.
