Spring on the Farm Freebie

Well, hello my sweet friends. It is springtime on the farm; this is one of the busiest times of the year. A lot  is going on. It is time for calves to be born, hens are nesting, and there is a buzz of excitement as the weather warms.

I am so excited to introduce my new little cross stitch "Spring on the Farm".
I just think it is as cute as can be . I had to take a photo of it with my tiered tray by my corner sink. That is where I have lots of Pioneer Woman pieces and of course chickens.
What is happening on this little farm? There are sheep grazing about. Dog gonnit !  I hope they do not get into the strawberry or carrot patches. The two patches of strawberries are producing the yummiest berries, and of course the baskets are in the field for picking. You are welcome to try a berry- My personal favorite is "Sweet Charlies" .

Chicks have been born, and still one hen is nesting.

This is a small measuring 53 x 53. I stitched mine on 14 count tea dyed aida.   I used 9 DMC floss colors. I stitch from stash ; my only regret is not choosing a brighter yellow for the chicks. Of course, if you stitched this you could stitch them a lot brighter.
A red barn and tractor warms my heart.

I finished it on a Dollar Tree tray that I painted white. I used scrap fabric and mounted it on a piece of cardboard and popped it into the bottom of the tray.
The lace trim was from the Dollar Tree too.

I am so happy you dropped by the farm today. If you would like to join me in weeding the berry patch, it would be greatly appreciated , but I have to forewarn you- it is back breaking work. So if you see me scooting in the field and chickweed a flying  you know what I am doing. Lol.
Happy stitching, ya'll

Porch Stitching, Trifles, and Chicken Wings

Happy Sunday, dear friends. How has your weekend been? I hope fabulous. Please join me on the porch for a little porch stitching and chatting.

Please, please , grab a cookie or two.
The table is all set. May I offer you some tea?
Today has been a glorious day. It was warm with the sun shining through the clouds. Birds have been chirping, and bees have been buzzing. My family celebrated my girls' birthdays; I can not believe they are grown. We just had hot dogs and chips-  a simple little gathering.
Later, I took a stroll around the yard. Flowers are blooming, and I even saw a few honeybees on the periwinkle.

More buttercups are blooming through the ivy.

I can  not tell you how excited I get with the bloom of each flower.

The grass is getting a little greener. We will have to mow soon. I worked a bit on cleaning some beds out today.

Lots of projects are out on the swing including some applique, quilting and stitching.
My chickens are getting their wings today and hopefully the eyes later.

Just a few more chickens to go.

I pulled out my Dogwood quilt to work on while sitting on the porch. This vintage quilt top was purchased at the Goodwill for only $3.99 a couple of years ago.

It has my favorite vintage green fabric in it.  In the 36 patches, I am quilting large dogwood blossoms.

I am still contemplating on what to do with the bee skep blocks. I thought I had it figured out early this week, but have changed my mind. Hmm  I really need some inspiration.  This project is on the agenda this week.
Later tonight I will continue working on Abby Rose Designs " Joyful Heart". I think I have made good progress for week 1 .

Well let me tell you about my cookies. Though I have made them into little ornaments or fobs, I call them cookies because of their shape and size. They are so teeny but cute - well , at least to me.

This is Sheep Trifle and Bunny Trifle, and they are small!!!. They only measure 19 x 19 . I stitched mine on 14 count aida which brought the stitch size to about 1 3/8" .
If you would like to stitch them,  just click on the pdfs below. They are just quick stitches.

Two others that I have stitched in the past were St. Patty's Trifle and Love Trifle  .

Sunday has always been a "visiting day" in my family. We used to go over to my Nanny's; eat a bite of Sunday dinner or enjoy a slice of Lemon bundt cake or some other sweets like Buttermilk Salad ( Nanny made that a lot) .

We would then sit on the porch and watch the cows  in the field and wave at an occasional car that would pass by.   I sure do miss those days.
With that,I want to tell you how much I appreciate your sweet visits and hope that you will come again real soon.  Have a fantastic week, ya'll and as always...

Happy quilting and stitching, ya'll

Strawberry Pie and a Little Quilting

Well  hello, stitching friends.  It has been a very slow stitching and quilting week, but I thought I would pop in with a few projects to share.
While rummaging around in the Quilt Nest, I found an old project that I worked on a few years ago  called "Family is Everything". This is perfect to work on this month since I am participating in Angela's of So Scrappy's Rainbow Scrap Challenge. This  month's color is green . I will have this quilted in no time and ready to hang on the wall.

Last week I showed you my Bowl of Berries block that I appliqued trying to use up my very few greens that I have in my stash.

I added 2 more blocks to the mix- all strawberry related.

The 2nd block I added is "Strawberry Jam" . Of course I had to add a little homemade biscuit to the block.

The 3rd block is "Strawberry Pie". Yum Yum.

I completed this block today.

Speaking of pie. This is one of Mom's pies that she makes each stawberry season. She adds a dollop of whip cream when she serves it.

I have been working on a little farm stitch today. It  There will be gardens, chickens and sheep. I will finish it tonight.

Thought I would share a little country clutter. Ya'll know I love my clutter.

Here is a little  colorful quilt stack on a vintage stool by my great grandma's hoosier cabinet.

Of course vintage toys are nearby including this Fisher Price dog and an old top.

In a vintage creamer is  corncob dolls that my Nanny bought for my girls years ago at a craft show. They would be simple to make using scraps of cloth.

Vintage goodies on the hoosier. Layers of vintage tablecloths, doilies and chenille scraps from a bedspread.

It sure is a delight that you visited me today.  I hope your weekend is filled with lots of stitching and joy and as always...
Happy quilting, ya'll

Bunnies, Baskets and Chickens - A Spring Freebie

Happy Tuesday and welcome, dear friends.  Are you ready for a little chicken stitching? Well  guess who is here? Annie and her gals, Edna, Alma and Dorothy Mae!

This piece finished on foam board with 2 layers of batting.

If you have been following me for awhile, then you will recognize the ladies, but just in case you do not know her, Annie is one hard working woman!

She is always busy, and her favorite hens are always right along with her. Edna, Alma and Dorothy Mae are sisters. To be honest Edna is always the fiesty one. Dorothy Mae is a little more on the serious side ,but  she is always up for a good adventure. What about , Alma you ask? She is the baby sister so she is a little spoiled.  Annie and the hens have been in a number of my stitches. Annie has done everything from tending bees, picking pumpkins, sledding in the snow and gathering hearts and blooms. Well it is springtime on the farm ; Edna, Alma and Dorothy Mae are nesting. Bunnies are hopping all around as Annie gathers eggs. Hmmm I wonder if she will use those eggs for baking or for Easter dyeing. She has a lot of eggs maybe both.

This is a small measuring 54 x51. I stitched mine on 14 count tea dyed aida . That brought the measurement to 3 7/8" x 3 5/8"  . All of the "Annie" stitches measure about the same because I am putting them on this box that I got at the Goodwill.

I think all of these would so cute as pillows in a basket or dough bowl though.  I used DMC floss that I had on hand; there are only 10 colors , but you could lessen it by using 1 brown.

If you have missed the other designs with Annie, I would love for you to check them out. Just click on the names below and you will go right to the post.

  Bees, Blooms and Chickens

Cornstalks , Pumpkins and Chickens ,

Snowflakes, Sledding and Chickens  and  Roses, Hearts and Chickens .

I took some time today to redo the embellishment for my  " Farm Sweet Farm " stitch which was a freebie.

I stitched this last year and had  a bow and greenery on it to go with my Barnyard Christmas series.

I had very few resources to work with today, but found some ribbon and some floral bits and added a little spring/summer vibe to it. It is finished on a Dollar Tree chalkboard.  One sweet stitcher stitched this up in John Deere colors. It was so cute.

Thank you so much for visiting.  I know Annie is planning to come back for a visit in the  near future. It would be a delight if you would come see her and the gals when they return. And it is always a pleasure when you visit me.  Have a lovely day and may it be filled with lots of love, joy and stitching  and as always...

Happy stitching, ya'll
