Time to Work on my Quilt Blocks

Is it December already? By golly it is! How did that happen?

December Word Play - a design by With Thy Needle & Thread finished on a Kirkland's chalkboard bought at the Goodwill.

Good evening, y'all and Happy December. It seems like yesterday that we were celebrating Halloween and here we are in the month of  December already. My how time flies.

Today has been quite chilly . It has been overcast for most of the day, but the rain moved in this afternoon . I expect the pitter patter of rain will continue throughout the night.  Mom said she saw a snowplow head up the valley earlier today.  Hmmm might we have snow in the forecast- I don't know.

I finished this old Prairie Schooler piece into a pouch which I stuffed with winter greens.

Yesterday , I pulled out my secondary blocks for my Pretty in Peach Butterfly quilt. Do you know the name of this block? I think it is so lovely.

Anywhooo.... I need 9 more blocks.

With a swish and swoosh , I had the 3 1/2" squares and strips cut for all of the blocks. I was ready to get down to the nitty gritty and do some serious sewing. But alas, I ran out of thread. Oh bother!

So Mr. Pinker and I went to Wally World today, where we picked up a few groceries and of course some thread so I could get back to the task at hand.

At the thrift store, I found this gorgeous snowball quilted table runner for only a $1.98!😲🤗 I could not snatch it up quick enough.

Each end has the most darling wool appliqued snowman scene.

The 16 snowball blocks measure at 3" finished.

The Snowball blocks measure 3" finished.

I think it was a great thrifty  find. What do you think?

Well Sweeties, that's what is going on in the holler.

How was your first day of December?

My view from the side of the house at the blueberry bushes and well house.

As Always...

Happy  Stitching and Quilting,

 y'all

  1. Ooooh what a great find at the thrift store, and for that price! 😮 Someone put a lot of love into it.
We're supposed to get a snow storm tomorrow so I'll probably sit by the woodstove while working 😁 This evening I'm stitching Prairie Schooler's 1984 Santa 🎅🏻
Have s lovely evening my friend! 🤗 Warm hugs from Maine ❄️ -Alex

    1. Brrrr Do stay warm and cozy, Alex. I am glad to hear you have a wood stove to keep you warm . Sitting by the fire stitching on a PS sounds like the perfect evening to me. We didn't get any snow , but it was definitely on the chilly side today. Thank you for the sweet visit. Warm hugs and Blessings.

  2. I don't recall what that block is called although it's fabulous.

I'm glad you got some thread - I seldom run out of thread, but I do run out of floss and I hate when that happens. grrr.
I wish we had some fabulous thrift stores around here. What we do is usually very expensive.
The snowman runner is wonderful - awesome find.
    Lots of hugs, DarleneJ

    1. Happy Happy Tuesday, dear Darlene. I bought 3 spools of thread so hopefully that will keep me stocked for awhile. Hee! Hee! I was hoping to get a whole lot of sewing done today, but my sewing machine is acting up now. Oh butterfingers! LOL I was tickled pink to find the snowman runner- a little sad for the quilter who made it though since it was sold so cheap. I hope you have had an awesome day. Warm hugs

  4. We had some rain that turned into snow over the weekend, and it is cold here in Colorado! Brrr! Your Pretty in Peach blocks are full of sweet fabrics, Melisa. I love those butterflies on the blue. Your thrifted snowman runner is really neat - great find! Hope you had a happy stitching day!

    1. Happy Tuesday, Diann. I have been watching some of my favorite Youtubers who were in CO . They have now left for warmer weather in AZ for the winter. Brrr winter is on its way . Do stay warm and cozy. Isn't that blue butterfly perfect? I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it. Have a great evening. Hugs.

  5. It seems like time has passed very quickly this year! I don’t know the name of the block, but it is lovely and I love the colors. I am glad you got the thread, so you can work on that to-do list LOL. The snowball table runner is definitely a find at an unbelievable price. I have not found a quilted item while thrifting, but I have picked up framed cross stitch a number of times (I can think of a dozen items, but there may be more). They were usually a couple of dollars and all but 2 were professionally framed. I was happy to bring them home and display them. Have a great Tuesday. Alicia

    1. Oh wow, Alicia what a treasure to find cross stitched pieces at your thrift stores at great prices to boot! I have found a few but it is very rare that I see them around here but yet I find quilted pieces easily. I am not sure why that is. Once I found an old sampler and the young lady at the register asked if I was buying it for the frame. I guess the sampler looked a bit old and tattered. LOL. I hope your day was a lovely one. Warm hugs.

Staying warm and cozy and stitching the day away sounds perfect to me especially when it is chilly outside. I hope you had a great day. Warm hugs.

  8. Good Morning - How did December creep up on us so quickly? Just yesterday I was making Christmas cards and already it's time to mail them! :-O! My first day of December was pretty ordinary - appointments at the VA for me, a trip to the Hallmark store and home to work on the chickens. Woo-hoo - exciting! LOL! Love your thrift store find - you find the neatest things. And they sure find you! As for your block, I've seen it before but can't remember the name. I even put it into my pinterest board hoping something similar would come up and the only thing close was Criss Cross but looking up criss cross, no match! :-/ LOL! Oh well. I know someone here will know. Blessings!

    2. Happy Tuesday, Donna. Well you are not letting grass grow under your feet this month. You are staying super busy. I have wondered how your chickens are doing. I bet they are a hoot. I hope all went well with your appointments and chores today. Well I didn't get to work on my quilt blocks today. My sewing machine was given me a fit! LOL. Wishing you a great day. Hugs.

    3. Happy Tuesday, Sharon. I think you are right about the quilt block. Maybe that is why I am drawn to it so much. I have always been smitten with 9 patches and four patches for some reason. Thank you so much for the info. I hope your day has been a great one. Hugs.

  9. Definitely a great find on that table topper, Melisa!! and, I love your blocks (no name ones)--the colors are so pretty...;))))
We are expecting a snow/sleet/rain mix here on the coast later on this morning... I wish it were just snow--but the ocean is still pretty warm at 45 degrees...so pretty much slush here.
I hope to put my binding on Sunrise, Sunset today--finally!! And continue working on my daughter's Christmas bunting; I want it finished so she can put it up for this year--but we shall see how it goes...
Hope your day is full of fun sewing hugs, Julierose

How lucky are you to live near the ocean. I can imagine the sounds and smells- aaah ! I hope you made a lot of progress on Sunrise, Sunset. Today was the perfect day to work on it considering the weather. Warm hugs and Blessings.

  14. good morning sweetheart Melisa.
i hope you are enjoying the rain. i would love to have rain. i love rain. it makes everything so clean and fresh. go outside after a rain and sniff the air - it is awesome. i love it. i know i'm a little strange and it doesn't take much to make me happy.
i just love your Prairie Schooler piece. it is so adorable. do you recall the name? i'd like to look for the pattern. it is so adorable and your finishing touches made it cute, cute, cute, but you make everything cute. you are amazing.
your Pretty in Peach quilt is gorgeous and i can't wait to see it finished. i know you are going to do magic on the finishing touches. way to go Melisa!!! i'm doing a cheerleading cheer for you.
you have got to be one of the luckiest people i know. your wool table runner is absolutely the best and for $1.98 there is no way to pass it up. how do you find all of these treasures? i haven't been to a goodwill and need to go. are the different areas marked off? or do you just go row-by-row up the aisles? i need to get my butt to one. all the treasures you find on your adventures are wonderful. i am truly impressed.
we are supposed to have weather of 67 for a high today. we'll see - what is forecasted isn't usually the temp it is. it is usually around 5 degrees higher, but i can handle 72 no problem.
my mom is in a skilled nursing facility rehabilitating and our mission for the day is to get her on hospice. this past year she has really declined. i want the best care and it seems like hospice is the way to go. i need to tell her that is the plan today and i know she is going to freak out. my dad, father-in-law, mother-in-law, and lots more people have been on hospice and, for them, they suffered from cancer. my mom thinks of hospice as a death sentence and i need to convince her of otherwise. i'm not looking forward to it. i know with the help of God i'll find the strength and it will all be a positive interaction.
so that is what i have planned for the day. i really need to clean the house. i have kind of put it on hold with everything that is going on and then i took a tumble and have been in horrific pain and that didn't help matters at all.
i hope you have a fantastic day. it is going to be a great one.
blessings and love are on the way to you lovely Melisa. stay safe. have you got your jingle bells on?

    1. Good evening, sweet Debra. Oh my I do hope you are ok. Now you go to the doctor if the pain continues . You may have broken something - you never know. Do take care and make sure you get the rest you need . Being a caretaker can be very challenging. I am sure your mom knows that you have her best interests at heart and you are there for her. I bet she is fiercely independent too. Bless her heart. I will keep you , your mom and your whole family in my prayers. Well I found the name of the little Prairie Schooler piece - it was a small section from the Button Up chart. I stitched it years and years ago in colors that reminded me of my girls. It was another cold and rainy day here in the holler. So I stayed in hoping to work on my blocks until my sewing machine acted naughty! Boo Hoo! LOL. Oh well , I will try again tomorrow. I wish you a great evening , Sweetie and do take care. Big hugs and many Blessings. Yes, I have my jingle bells on! Hee! Hee! How about you? Jingle Jingle!

  18. Great table runner and you can have it out all winter! So, did your raint turn to snow? We here on the east side of St. Louis (in IL) were told to expect 0.8" of snow on Dec 1. We ended up with about 4" which landed on top of the 7" we got on Saturday. We were told to expect 2 - 4 that time. Is it Spring yet??? Lol! Gracie loves the snow so I shouldn't wish away her joy on that front. Glad you got some thread. I suspect your needle was busy, busy, busy!

We always have fears of the electricity going off during bad weather. Luckily ours remained a slight drizzle all day long. It was downright chilly though- not my kind of weather. Spring sounds good to me. LOL. But I did stay in and tried to stay as busy as possible. I hope your day was a good one. Warm winter hugs.
