Good morning, y'all and a very lovely Tuesday to you. How was your weekend? Mine was fine and dandy, but fairly busy.
With all of the weeding and planting in the gardens, I did not have the opportunity to stitch the latest Summer Stamp until late Sunday evening.
As I stitched on Summer Quilt , my head went into the clouds as I began dreaming- dreaming of a summer picnic.
A picnic is a state of mind and can be made anywhere. _ unknown
When my girls were young, we would often lay a quilt out on the ground, set up an array of summertime munchies like hot dogs , chips and cold drinks and enjoy a lazy afternoon. Sometimes the girls would sit on the quilt and make clover necklaces and bracelets by interlocking the stems around the clover blooms. Did you do that as a kid?
By late evening, the girls were running amuck trying to catch lightning bugs so they could gingerly place them into a jar. That is what we call slow living on the farm. I do miss those days .

Now we have the grandsons and nephews who often come over and spend the night. Rather than having picnics , they enjoy time in the pool . When nighttime comes, they like for us to build a fire in the fire pit. It does not take long for them to gather their roasting sticks to toast marshmallows and make s'mores. Hmmm...Since school will be letting out on Friday, I better make sure our pantry is well stocked with marshmallows, graham crackers and chocolates ; I am sure there will be a sleepover by the week's end- that is if I am lucky.
Anywhooo... Summer Quilt is all stitched and ready for a summer picnic.

Summer Quilt was stitched with the following DMC colors: 223, 815, 930, 932 and Blanc . Of course, if you decide to stitch Summer Quilt, you could stitch it in whatever floss colors your precious heart desires. ❤

I am not sure what I will get into today. The house does need a good cleaning, but then there are some lovely fabrics that are calling loudly - " Yoo Hoo! Come play with me! " Hee ! Hee! Nine times out of ten , I end up playing with my fabrics rather than tackling the house chores.
As Always...
Happy Stitching and Quilting, y'all
Melisa

Summer Stamp day is so much fun - love the new one!! The red and white quilt is fabulous. I think red and white is timeless and always looks great. Take care of yourself and Mr Pinker. Big Hugs, DarleneJ
ReplyDeleteGood evening, Miss Darlene. I couldn't resist adding a patriotic looking quilt to the summer sampler. It stitched up quick too. I hope you had a great weekend and got in some sewing time. I spent the day at the machine today. It felt so good. Hee! Hee! Warm hugs.
DeleteSummer Quilt is the perfect stamp for the center of the sampler, Melisa. Full coverage, so I best get to stitching! I enjoyed hearing about your summers when the girls were young. I'm sure you grandsons are making the best memories these days. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteOh yes, the grandsons keep us entertained especially during the summer. I am so happy that you like the Summer Quilt Stamp, Jeanna. It stitched up pretty quick especially since there were few colors. You will have it stitched in no time. Thank you again for joining me. Hugs and Blessings.
DeleteWhat a darling little quilt block, Melisa!
ReplyDeleteAaw thank you so much, Robin. I had a ball stitching this little block. I have always had an affection for patriotic looking quilts. I hope you had a great weekend. Hugs.
DeleteI love how your little Summer Stitchery is coming together, Melisa:))) So pretty with your lovely color choices...sunny here today--definitely a "deck" picnic lunch day for us...
ReplyDeleteWe had a lot of beach picnics and local on-the road-"Rest Area" picnics using their pre-set up tables when I was little.
We'd go for a "ride" and stop when the moment hit us. Fried chicken, potato salad, orange soda--then my favorite--and always cupcakes for dessert--yummees!!...fun times to remember...
Hope to sew row 1 of Pips today after my food shopping foray...
hugs, Julierose
Aaaw such warm happy childhood memories, Julierose. Fried chicken and potato salad . Yum ! Yum! My dad's family used to do the same. I wish there were more little roadside pull offs like that in our area. I hope you had a wonderful day working on Pips. I got to spend some time sewing too. Hugs.
DeleteIt's a wonderful summer stamp!!
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful to be able to live on the farm and do these activities.
Living in the city, I sometimes tried to have picnics in a park, but the girls hated it when ants climbed on the blanket.
Hugs
Aaw what a sweet memory of picnics with your girls. Oh those pesky ants- right? I think flies are the worst here and now the mosquitoes. Uggh. Thank you for the sweet Tuesday visit, Isabel. Hugs.
DeleteUgh on the house chores, and yes to the fabric play! We need to go vote today before the predicted storms begin, and here I sit trying to catch up on blog reading. I LOVE the summer quilt stamp - thank you! Your picnic memories are so nice. You've got me craving s'mores now.
ReplyDeleteWell Linda, the sewing won out. Hee! Hee! I did sweep and dust a bit though. I hope it was not too crazy and crowded when you went to town and you beat the storms. We are supposed to have rain tomorrow, but we shall see. Thank you for the sweet visit. Hugs.
DeleteSuch a cute stamp, Melisa. My mom and aunt used to take my cousins and I to the river to swim and we would have a picnic some days. Fun times. Ms. M got out of school last Friday because she made a 33 on her ACT and was exempt from finals. The boys get out Thursday at 1 and my daughter finishes up on Friday. Hopefully we will have them for breakfast/brunch Friday. That's been how it was in the past anyway. Enjoy your summer with the boys. Hugs, B
ReplyDeleteWowzer good job for Miss M! She is one smart cookie. It sounds like your kiddos are wrapping up the school year too. Do you get in a lot of grandma time during the summer like me? I know you love every minute being with them. We will get ours on Thursday . We usually take them out to eat wherever they want to go or fix them a special meal. There is nothing like grandchildren . Is there? Have a great time with them on Friday. Hugs.
DeleteGood plan -- stitch to your heart's delight! Cleaning can always wait for another day. Tee! Hee!
ReplyDeleteLOL that is what I always say, Susie. Sewing is a whole lot more fun and that is exactly what I did. It was a great day. I hope you got in some stitching time as well. Hugs.
DeleteYour finished stamp is a cute one! At the end of a hot day, we used to take a picnic to the lake. We would water ski until it got dark and then eat our picnic as we cruised back to the dock to load up for home. --TerryK@OnGoingProjects
ReplyDeleteOh how fun, Terry. It sounds like you and your family had a wonderful time. Wrapping up a fun filled day with a picnic on the boat sounds perfect. Thank you for the sweet visit .
DeleteI do love a picnic, Melisa! Thanks for the reminder of good times spent growing up with my siblings, and with our kids when they were growing up, too. We still love to take a picnic lunch along when we are out and about and see where we can find to eat it. This is a sweet stamp - I'll look forward to stitching it! Have a great day - whatever you decide to do!
ReplyDeleteAaw thank you so much, Diann. It is fun to reminisce about the good ole' days especially when thinking of times with the kiddos. You got me thinking that Mr. Pinker and I should go out and find a place for a picnic sometime soon even if we just went down to the lake. Have a beautiful day. Hugs
DeleteMelisa, what a lovely reminder! Not as many picnics, but the Daisy and clover chains, yes! Hopscotch, Jacks, kick the can and catching lightning bugs, definitely! In the Summer, we were out of the house early morning and back in time for dinner. Kids today don’t know what they are missing! P.S. skip the housework! Yes to the fabric!
ReplyDeleteYou got that right, Gail. Nowadays the kiddos are missing out on a whole lot of fun. I forgot about playing hopscotch. I loved doing that as a kid. Yep the good old days. Right? I took your advice and spent the day playing with fabric. I had a glorious day which I needed. LOL. Thank you for the sweet visit. Hugs.
DeleteSuch lovely family memories Melisa
ReplyDeleteAaw thank you so much , Jenny. Sometimes it is hard to believe that my girls are grown and gone. Time passes so quickly. I wish you a lovely day. Hugs
DeleteThe Summer Quilt stamp is perfect for the center. Thanks for sharing your memories - it always triggers memories that my sister and I then share. Our mother used to pack a picnic when my dad was working late in the field and we would find a shade tree near the field to set out the quilt and food. We also wove clovers and caught lightning bugs. When my children were small, I would often put out a quilt and had picnics in the living room on rainy days. You are making memories with your grandchildren, so special. Stock up on those ingredients for smores. Have a great week. Alicia
ReplyDeleteAaw such warm summertime memories, Alicia. I can imagine your mom spreading out the quilt and you and your sister watching and waiting for your dad as he worked the fields. Farmers have long hours don't they? My sis and I always tried to see who could make the longest clover chains. My , doesn't time pass by so quickly? Thank you for sharing such sweet memories. Have a wonderful evening. Hugs.
DeleteSuch a pretty quilty stitch to add to the mix. Thank you so much. The picnic scene in the first picture is so pretty. It's a Bowtie quilt, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteA beautiful stamp that goes perfectly in the center, lovely!
