Yesterday, I showed you my newest cookbook acquisition, the Favorite Mormon Recipes Casserole cookbook. I found another yummy recipe that would just be perfect for a big Sunday meal . ( Just thinking ahead- Hee! Hee!)
GRANDMA'S CORN BAKE
2 cans cream style corn
2 eggs
1/4 cup of cornmeal
1 clove of garlic, chopped
6 Tablespoons of vegetable oil
2 cups of grated cheddar cheese
1 cup of green chilies , chopped
DIRECTIONS: Combine corn, eggs, cornmeal, garlic and oil; place layer of mixture in casserole dish. Sprinkle cheese and chilies over the entire surface. Cover with remaining corn mixture. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes or until set or lightly browned.
🥣 🥣 🥣 🥣 🥣 🥣 🥣 🥣 🥣 🥣 🥣
Mom used to make big Sunday meals, and the whole family would gather for a relaxing day on the farm. Her day would start early as she bustled about in the kitchen; dinner would be on the table between 10:30- 11:00 a.m . Hmmm... there would be baked or fried chicken, mashed potatoes , beets, corn , slow cooked mushrooms, broccoli with cheese, sliced tomatoes and sometimes a casserole or two and I must not forget Mom's Mac and cheese. Yum! Yum! I miss the good ole' days especially the weekly family gatherings. After eating, we would sit on the back porch .
During the summer , we would watch the hummingbirds' flutter from feeder to feeder . Mom had numerous feeders strung along a wire from pole to pole.
It would not be long before the cows would come down the hill and linger along the fence line and graze as they lazily slapped the flies with their tails. Like I said- the good ole' days. 🤗

Anywhooo... I worked all week on stitching the borders for the Summer Stamp SAL. I am quite smitten with the Rit Lemon Yellow dyed 14 count Aida.
Today I am continuing on with the Summer Stamp SAL by sharing the Header which has a sassy little crow and a large drooping sunflower. Oh, and I must not forget the juicy watermelon!
I used DMC floss colors 926, 3345, 310, 815, 782 , 898, 3799 and Blanc. I just used what floss colors I had on hand ; plus these are some of my favorite colors. If you decide to stitch this little piece, choose whatever floss colors make your heart sing!

What a beautiful header! When you see it you know summer is coming.
ReplyDeleteHugs !!
Good morning, dear Annelies and Happy Tuesday. Thank you so much for bringing a smile to my day. Crows and sunflowers are some of my favorite summertime motifs. Have a beautiful day. Hugs.
DeleteLove the header!! I live on the Surface of the Sun so it'll be a fun stitch. The others are so stinkin' cute. I believe I've said it before but I'm going to say it again - you don't sleep, do you? You never cease to amaze me. Happy Tuesday. Lots of Hugs, DarleneJ
ReplyDeleteHappy Happy Tuesday, Miss Darlene. Oh, I hope you enjoy this little stitch. It whipped up lickety split. LOL I wish I did not have to do that "ole' sleep thing" . I think I could stitch and quilt 24/7 . How about you? Enjoy your day, sweet friend. Lots of love and hugs.
Deletelove your header how r u doing I am doing not bad
ReplyDeleteAaw thank you so much. I had a lot of fun creating the little header. I am so glad you are doing well. I am doing pretty good. The weather has warmed up nicely so staying outside and enjoying the sunshine always lifts my spirits. I wish you the most lovely day. Warm Hugs.
DeleteLooking forward to starting this - saving everything! Wish I could say I've started it but alas...too many project going on - "I guess I need to cut back" - HA! Blessings!
ReplyDeleteLOL , Donna . I know what you mean. But no no do not cut back. You can't do that . Hee! Hee! I often say the same thing, but alas the needle and thread feeds my soul. Thank you so much for saving this little chart for a future stitch and for the sweet Tuesday visit. Have a beautiful day. Hugs.
DeleteThat corn bake looks wonderful. Like you I have wonderful memories of Mom's meals, especially Sunday after church. Sometimes we would "go for a drive" after we ate, no plan in mind, just driving around in the country. Yes the good ol' days.
ReplyDeleteThank you for breaking down the header into 2 parts for my old eyes!
Aaw I am so glad this post brought back warm memories, Linda. Going for a drive and enjoy the scenery is relaxing isn't it? Hubby and I do that every now and then. Mostly we ride through the campgrounds as we enjoy ice cream . We then head back home. Thank you for the sweet Tuesday visit. I hope you have a great day in the quilt room. Hugs.
DeleteYour Summer SAL border looks awesome on your lemony colored fabric, Melisa. Well done!
ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much, Robin. I hope I do not have to change too many of the colors as I stitch, but yellow just screams summer to me. Have a wonderful day . I hope you are getting in some stitch time. Hugs.
DeleteThe corn casserole is similar to one we make for holidays - I am going to make this variation. When I was a child my family alternated Sundays with my father’s or mother’s family. It was great fun playing with the cousins. The grandmothers and aunts were fabulous cooks and the food was delicious. Good memories! The header and stamps are adorable. I stitch the border with each stamp, so this week I will stitch the header. Thanks so much for this wonderful design. Alicia
ReplyDeleteAaaw it sounds like you have wonderful Sunday memories. I love that y'all alternated where you spend your Sundays that way you could visit with everyone. You made me think about grand times with my cousins as well. We had a lot of fun playing in the barns and running amuck. That is a great idea on stitching the borders as you go. I sure hope you enjoy stitching this week's section. Have a blessed day, Alicia. Warm hugs.
DeleteLove all your beautiful designs! The summer header is perfect! Thanks for making the enlarged chart. My eyesight is horrendous!!
ReplyDeleteAaaw you are so very welcome and thank you for the sweetest compliment and for stitching along. I am so happy that you liked the enlarged version. I played around with it for awhile trying to make it a little more reader friendly. Warm hugs and many blessings.
DeleteThanks for sharing another sweet stitch and wonderful memories, Melisa. That corn casserole sounds good but I would need to switch out the chilies for bacon or something else since no one in my family except my SIL and me eat chilies! I have a family of picky eaters! LOL
ReplyDeleteMmmm Mmmm! Bacon would be a great addition. Of course everything is good with bacon . Right? I was fascinated by all of the versions of corn casseroles this book had. I am still flipping through it. I know what you mean about a family of picky eaters. Mine is the same way. Have a fabulous day, Brenda . Hugs.
DeleteOh my goodness. . .that header is extra special. I can't even say which part is my favorite. . the crow, the sunflower or the watermelon. . .likely all of them are my favorite!--TerryK@OnGoingProjects
ReplyDeleteAaw thank you so much, dear Terry for bringing a smile to my day. Hmmm to be honest I cannot choose my favorite either- though I have always had an affection for crows. LOL. I hope you are having a wonderful day. Hugs.
DeleteThe summer header looks fabulous!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!
Kisses
Aaw thank you very kindly, dear Isabel. It sure was a joy to create and stitch . I am working on stamp 1 today. I wish you the most lovely day. Warm hugs.
DeleteLove how you turned the header into a sweet little pillow. It is as adorable as you! Hope you and the grands have a great day on the field! Don't forget to give that Brad Bull an extra pat from me! Tee! Hee!
ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much, Susie. I am thrilled to pieces how the header turned out. I look forward to decorating with the Summer pin pillow come summer time. Aaw Big Bad Brad would love the attention. That fella doesn't just moseys about without a care in the world. Have a fabulous day, Susie. Hugs.
DeleteSounds like a wonderful day on the farm! Hope you get to spend days like that this summer. Thank you for all the sweet cross stitches and for the corn casserole recipe-sounds yummy. The whole menu sounds delicious-especially the beets-my grand daughter calls them 'dirt pickles'-I kinda have to agree but I still love them.
ReplyDeleteLOL dirt pickles! How cute! Yep, I agree too, but like you I love them. Oh, I sure hope we get to enjoy some family time on the farm this summer too. Though we do not have the big meals, a few of us still get together and enjoy sitting about on Sundays. Thank you for the sweet visit. And for making me smile , Annie. Hugs.
Deleteoops forgot to add my name-Annie with the ducks
ReplyDeleteIt's always nice to reminisce about the good old days, all those happy family memories.
ReplyDeleteOh it is , Jenny. Sometimes it is a little bitter sweet when the loved ones are no longer here, but sweet nonetheless. Thank you for taking the time to visit me today. Hugs.
DeleteThe Summer topper for the SAL is delightful, Melisa! How fun to have the U made by a watermelon slice. I'm going to enjoy stitching that! The corn casserole recipe you found sounds yummy. Hope the kiddos did well in their ballgames tonight!
ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much, Diann. I hope you enjoy stitching the header as much as I did. The kiddos had a grand time even though they did not win. The oldest got to pitch so he was thrilled to pieces. Have a great evening. Hugs.
DeleteI remember our Sunday dinners at my grandmother's where like that, pretty similar menu, except for the mushrooms. I don't think she ever used those. The summer stamp stitching is going to be really fun to see come together.
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty header for the Summer SAL. Thank you. Another day of rain here. I am not going to complain. I never had corn casserole til I moved to ND and then I found that it was served at most holiday meals. This recipe sounds like a keeper.
ReplyDeleteOops! It's me Ginny
DeleteOh Melisa I love the summer header! The watermelon as the "U" letter is so cool! I just love all the design altogether, thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteHugs
Your Sunday meals sound very similar to what we had growing up. It was my grandmother who did all the delicious cooking. Oh how I long for her fried chicken and buttermilk biscuits. The Summer header is so cute. I'll look forward to stitching it this weekend.
