Welcome, Sweet friends. Do join my on the porch. We can listen to the sweet melody of the chirping birds, watch the butterflies flutter and admire the flowers in bloom. Aaah Spring time is a a wonderful time of the year. In celebration of this season, I stitched a new house in soft greens, and it even has a porch .
As I worked on this piece, I would reminisce back to the good ole' days when I was a child and would visit my grandparents in the evenings.
Most often you would find my Papa and Nanny on the porch of their old farmhouse. Papa would watch the cows in the field as Nanny chatted away telling about the "goings on" of the day.
| Spring Farmhouse which is modeled after my Nanny's home and Spring on the Farm |
Come springtime, Nanny would plant petunias in the concrete planters which lined the long front porch and front steps. Us youngins' would jump off the porch which stood tall and would scamper to the mountain stone sidewalk to pick daffodils which lined the sidewalk. We would soon take our bouquets to Nanny . She would lovingly place them in a water filled mason jar and sit them on the farmhouse table. Such sweet memories.
The Signs of Spring house does not have a pasture with cows nearby , but there are sweet ewes grazing in the front yard. I hope they do not get into the flower gardens.
"Signs of Spring" was stitched on 14 coffee/tea dyed Aida using 13 DMC floss colors which included: 356, 436, 610, 730, 829, 840, 918, 924, 926, 3013, 3021, 3363, Blanc

Thank you so much for taking the time to visit me on this lovely day as I strolled down memory lane. Perhaps fond memories of "days gone by" came back to you as well. Have a blessed day and...

Hugs and Stitches!!!!🤗🧵❤
Dedicated to my baby sister, Amy. Love and miss you, Amo.

I'm super, super crazy about the Signs of Spring House and its sister design. Spring has been my favorite season for more years than I can count. Unfortunately living on the Surface of the Suns means either Spring is non existent or doesn't last very long. Big Sigh!!! My life has been consumed by x-stitching (stitching like my hair is on fire LOL). It's been quite a while since I've spent time with my sewing machine. I believe it might be time to make a small quilt or two. Would you agree? Enjoy your stitching and/or quilting. More get well healing thoughts for your family member. Big Squeezy Hugs, DarleneJ
ReplyDeleteSweet, sweet, sweet. The collection grows.

ReplyDeleteOh my gosh it is gorgeous! Drop everything, Donna, and get started on it! LOL!
ReplyDeleteI do have good memories of visit my grandma's house - It was the sweetest little white house. One bedroom, a very tiny kitchen, and a bathroom that had the rule.."if it's yellow..." LOL! Still not sure why but this was before the regulations about that kind of thing for out in the country.
Have a great day...Blessings!
Your new Signs of Spring house is exactly that. Looks like a perfect spring day. And since I stitched The Ewe House, I will be stitching this new one to put them together. Have a great day. And thanks again for this new house. K from NY
ReplyDeleteThe little stitchery is very cute! My daffodils have emerged but have a ways to go before blooming. Enjoy your springtime!
ReplyDeleteSuch nice memories Melisa. Great houses and I especially love the front porch! It’s sunny but chilly here in England at the moment.

That is a pretty little soft green house, and I love the porch! Hope you have a nice spring-y weekend Melisa.
ReplyDeleteI can remember everyone sitting out on the porch during the summer while us kids played in the yard at my grandmother's. We jumped off the porch too, though mom told us not too. Your stitchery captures those memories really well. Hope you can enjoy a bit more spring, it seems we are headed right into summer.
ReplyDeleteOh I love this new house Melissa!! Thank you so much for sharing your design!!
ReplyDeleteHugs
Wonderful memories, Melisa--I used to sit with my Grand-mere and Grand-pere on their front porch in the evenings, too--she would be crocheting and he would be smoking his pipe to keep the bugs at bay. I loved sitting on their comfy glider and just woolgathering and probably drinking her homemade lemonade...... hugs, Julierose
ReplyDeleteThis house is so adorable! I have the Ewe House displayed now for the month of March and just love the colors. Thank you so much for the beautiful patterns you share. Take Care - Carrie

ReplyDeleteI love your stories. I didn’t have grandparents on a farm but love hearing about yours. Love your stitching makes me very happy. Thank you for taking the time to share with us.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your wonderful blog Melissa. It’s a joy to read with my morning coffee. I live in Central Alberta, Canada. Our Spring has arrived, finally, and I’m watching the snow melt daily. No daffodils peeking their heads/leaves up yet, but they will be by next month. And I have to also thank you for sharing your quilting and Xstitch journey with us. My two favourite hobbies! Enjoy your Daffy-down-dillies as my Mum used to call them. Annette
ReplyDeleteI love those sheep, Melisa! They are so cute and fluffy, and look fun to stitch. Fun to read your memories of time spent at your Nanny's house, too. I love growing petunias - they're one of my favorite flowers!
ReplyDeletegood morning precious Melisa.
ReplyDeletei am so excited that you shared with us your days on the porch with nanny and papa. i love the story of the porch, daffodils, mason jar, and the beautiful vase sitting on the farmhouse table at nanny's house. geez!!! that brought tears to my eyes. i didn't have a good childhood so i did everything in my power in raising my children to make sure they experienced as much of life as i could offer. the thing that sticks out in my mind the most as a child was laying in the snow and making snow angels. i'd go from spot to spot and plop myself down and make angels everywhere i could. i loved that. to this day it brings peace to my heart and mind. ah - if only i was ten again. or even 30. i'd even go for 50. haha no do overs. carry on and do the best you can. love nature, love life!!! that's my motto.
thank you so much for the beautiful Signs of Spring house. it is so cheery. i love it. i also had to print the Ewe House and Spring Farmhouse. they are so full of memories - the good ol' days. you are so amazing. you bring to life in cross stitch all the joys of country living. i love it. thank you for making me feel like a part of it.
i hope you have a fantastic day Melisa. it is still over 99 here and i am just melting. if i open the back door to get to the car it is like a ball of fire has hit me. it is horrible. what happened to our winter? we had about five days of rain (which I love) and the need for a sweatshirt. i can't imagine with the heat we are having now what our summer weather is going to bring us.
i am soooo sorry i have talked your ear off this morning. i pray you stay safe and the family tackles the sickness and that everyone is sitting on the porch drinking sweet tea very soon.
blessings and love are on the way to you Melisa.
hugs.
Debra Broyles

Love the green house with the porch. Thanks for all your creative little.houses. Margie \TN

ReplyDeleteAnother beautiful one. I just love your houses! I really like the 1882 piece that is on your page header, was wondering if you have shared that or will in the future? I just finished a small trip around the world quilt, planning some patriotic quilts, redwork and of course crossstitching. Busy, busy!
ReplyDeleteYour spring house is lovely Melisa.
ReplyDeleteOh my! Thank you so much for sharing this lovely house pattern. I am currently making my way through all of your previous house patterns. I have loved stitching every single one so much. I hope to stitch an entire neighborhood. I really love hearing all about the going’s on on the farm as well. As a child I always wanted to grow up on a farm. Sadly the family farm was sold long before my birth. Sending love to you and yours from The Twin Cities.❤️
ReplyDeleteWhat a darling new free design, Melisa--thank you! I do love a house with a front porch--so homey and relaxing to sit and stitch out there in the summer. We added ours on when we remodeled our home 30 years ago and it remains one of my favorite spots :) Hope you're enjoying a relaxing Sunday! ♥
ReplyDeleteAlways enjoy visiting with you. It puts a spring in my step and a smile on my face 🌱🌷🪻🌱(nwpaintedlady)
ReplyDeleteWhat a perfect sister house stitch to the Ewe House. So pretty with the flowers and the vines, Thank you, dear Melisa. Oh, I see a porch swing on that friendly little porch. I'm curious - what are the pretty floral vases/S&P/chotskies(?) in the last image of your new stitch. They are really pretty, whatever they are.
ReplyDeleteIf you have worked on your No Name Sampler I’d love to see it. It is very nice.
