Good morning, y'all and Happy Tuesday.
It's going to be a slow day here in the holler.
A little yellow pig is at home in the sunflower tiered tray. |
While Mr. Pinker is out and about, I will begin the morning working on Blackbird Designs "Bird in Hand" a sweet gift from dear Sonja. Thank you , Sonja. Though my start is small, I am already loving it. 🤗❤
Working on the border. |
A little heart quilt is nearing a finish. My needle and thread will be winding its way along the border today.
Yesterday, Mr. Pinker and I went to town and did all of our grocery shopping for the week, and of course, we stopped at the thrift store. I came home with a few clothes and this glorious transferware platter. Our Goodwill has gone through some changes. The prices have gone sky high, but at times you can find a deal particularly on Mondays for Monday Mania.
This platter was just 77 cents. What a steal. |
Eeeeh! Well it is finally happening! Do y'all remember me telling you how the pool liner busted in May just as we filled up the pool? Well we finally have it replaced and the water is going in. A little bit of water is added each day. Soon the rest of the railing will be put on and the pump reattached. It will take a few days, but soon the grandbabes and nephews will be splashing about and this ole' grandma will be too. 😂🏊💦💦💦 We gotta have some escape from the heat.
A few weeks ago, I shared my Country Red, White and Blue Hutch Tour. The hutch was filled to the brim with all things red , white and blue including The Jane Shuff Sampler. I had a sweet inquiry about this sampler which just warmed my heart. I started to look back and realized that this was one of the samplers that I had free hand stitched. So I promptly began to chart it up. I am sharing it today.
I stitched this piece in 2020. I believe at the time I used JP Coats threads . I used 3 different blues, 2 reds and a white. So I am sharing this as a CHOOSE YOUR OWN COLORS CHART.

If you are interested in stitching this piece, just grab , the images. For printing tips, refer to the post Tips for Printing which has loads of tips from my sweet friends.

I am doing a happy dance! 💃💃💃 I have a finish! I fully finished Herrschners Winter's Night Music Boxes which are freebies and are available on their website. A while back dear Nancy on IG showed her beautifully stitched pieces and I had to add them to my stitching list.❤ A simple round finish with homespun, jute cord, and rusty bells did the job for me.
As Always,
Happy Stitching and Quilting, y'all
Melisa
Thank you for the sweet visit.

Dedicated to my baby sister, Amy. Love and miss you, Amo.
Those tiny little words .... they touch my heart... ❤️🧡💛
ReplyDeleteAaaw thank you so much, dear Willeke. I cannot tell you how much I miss my dear sis. Life is not the same. I hope that your week is off to a lovely start. Warm Hugs.
DeleteAlways so many wonderful things in your lovely corner of the world. I'm crazy about the Jane Schuff sampler so I thank you from the bottom of my heart for providing the chart. That will be a fun stitch.
ReplyDeleteLots of strife and stress in my corner of the world just as I was starting to feel better health wise. I did manage to quietly celebrate another birthday. Getting old is not fun. LOL Big, big hugs, Darlene J
Aaaw Happy Happy Birthday, dear Darlene. Remember age is just a number. I quit celebrating years ago. I am stuck at 39 . Hee! Hee! I hope you did something special for yourself. Maybe a treat? Or doing something you love? You deserve it, sweet friend. But I agree getting old is for the birds. Oh I am so glad that you like the little sampler. I hope you enjoy every stitch. Have a wonderful day, sweet friend. Hugs.
DeleteYour Jane Schuff sample is a cutie! I am awed that you free handed it!--TerryK@OnGoingProjects
ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much, Terry. Now that I look back up on it, I remembered that I was trying to get it to fit the frame. I am sorta impressed myself. LOL. I don't know if I would have that much patience now. Have a lovely day. Hugs.
DeleteI love your heart quilt, it's beautiful !
ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much, Sandi. I just have the borders to go and hopefully I will be ready to bind it soon. Have a great day. Hugs.
DeleteThank you for sharing the Jane Schuff sampler! It is beautiful! You are such a great person and enjoy seeing all of the beautiful items that you make!
ReplyDeleteAaah you just made my day! Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I truly hope you enjoy this little stitch. Have a very blessed day, dear. Hugs.
Delete77¢ is an unbelievable price for transferware! Where is Mr Pinker off to that you have a day of stitching ahead of you? Your holler swimming pool looks wonderful! Beautiful sampler pattern and so amazing that you freehanded that when you first made it.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't believe it, Linda. I just don't understand some of their pricing because newer plates are like $2.00 or more. I think that was my lucky day. Though Mr. Pinker has retired, he has picked up a part time job to enjoy ( no set work days). He likes to be outdoors so that leaves me a whole day to stitch. Hee ! Hee! . We are looking forward to filling in the pool; it is going to take awhile though. Thank you for the sweet visit, Linda. Hugs.
DeleteMy Hubs is making noises about wanting a part-time job. He's 77, but he'd love to do something online from home. I think he misses the good feelings he used to get being a boss (since he can't boss me - lol!)
DeleteYour needlework is always love but it's quilts that catch my eye. I really like the blue background fabric you are using in Paper Chains. That pattern is on my list of someday quilts, unfortunately that list keeps getting longer and longer! Enjoy that pool, this weather is definitely pool time.
ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much, Gretchen. I was ready to work on a blue quilt. I am using all kinds of fabrics in it; I am hoping to have a vintagey vibe to it. Those blocks are a lot of fun to piece - a good leader/ ender project too. But I know what you mean about an ever growing list. Mine keeps growing too. Have a great week and Happy quilting. Hugs.
DeletePaper chain blocks are looking so good --love your blue fabric choice--very vintage looking;)))
ReplyDeleteLovely little Hearts piece, too. Sultry days here--high dewpoints--lotsa inside AC stitching going on...so all to the good, right? Stay cool;)))
Hugs, Julierose
Oh thank you so much, Julierose. I was hoping the Paper chains would look vintagey. I cannot wait to finish it. It was another hot one here in the holler too. I got up early and did all my gardening. The rest of the day was spent inside. LOL. Stay cool sweet friend. Hugs.
DeleteA lovely patriotic display!!
ReplyDeleteI love everything you share.
Hugs
Aaw thank you so much, Isabel. I enjoyed having this little sampler out on display for the season. Have a blessed day. Hugs.
DeleteWhat a pretty little sampler! I hope you are enjoying your pool time, Melisa!
ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much, Robin. I enjoyed stitching this little piece. Well our pool is still being filled but I know I will enjoy it once all the work is done. I always enjoy watching the little ones play in it. Have a wonderful day. Hugs.
DeleteCute little Sampler, Melisa! Have fun with your stitching today and stay as cool as you can. This heat is brutal this week. Enjoy that pool as soon as you can! Hugs. B
ReplyDeleteOh it is, Brenda. It got up to 101 today. Wheew ! And humid! I wish you a lovely week working in the sewing room and thank you for the sweet visit. Hugs.
DeleteThe Jane Shuff sampler is pretty - is there a little history behind it?
ReplyDeleteLooks like that pool is going to be filled to the brim with family soon - fun!
A quick question - you may have answered this at one time - how do you hand quilt your quilts? I see it's on a frame but is it a standing frame or one you have on your lap? I have a large frame from pvc piping that I used to use which is too big for the RV.
Blessings!
Oh thank you so much, Donna. Jane was a distant relative. Her husband fought in the Revolutionary War in SC. It was a joy to stitch this little sampler for her. I like to use round or oval hoops. I have a stands for them but I take them off the stands and hold them in my lap. When we are camping, I take the oval hoop with me because it is easier to store. If nothing is in the hoop, I can slip it between the fridge and the wall in the camper. I have a PVC quilt frame too but it has been years since I have used it. I usually find my frames at thrift stores. A wooden hoop might be an option for you. Hope you are having a great week and staying cool. It has been a hot one here. Hugs.
Deletegood morning gorgeous Melisa.
ReplyDeletethank you so much for the jane shuff sampler cross stitch pattern. that's a keeper for sure. absolutely beautiful. a must do!!!
i love your war depiction/eagle plate. i would have snatched that plate up for sure. $.77 that is a steal!!! i love it. a relic that deserves to be displayed.
yellow piggie is so cute. a beauty that is a must for a display. i love little piggies. we used to raise pigs. they were so amazing. in my drinking days i'd go out and wrestle with them. can you imagine? my goodness what was i thinking. magical memories right now. no more drinking and no more piggies. those were the days!!! that reminds me of the old TV program All In The Family. those definitely were the days. never would a show like that be on TV now. wowza!!! taboo!!!
i did go into the website you provided for the Christmas ornaments. i did print them so here we go again! more projects to complete. the ornaments shouldn't take too long and the Jane Shuff sampler shouldn't either. just color selection for me. i like it much better when you provide the thread color for us. i don't have to think that way. i guess i have a lazy brain. or i have too much stuff in it. now what shall the answer be today? lazy or too much?
i hope you have a wonderful, blessed day Melisa. i love all of your posts. you are the best. enjoy your time in your pool. that water looks so refreshing. i'd like to take a dip right now. ahhhhh!!! feels so good!!!!
blessings and love are on the way to you Melisa.

Good morning, dear Debra. I hope you are having a lovely week. It is going to be another scorcher here this week. I was able to spend almost the whole day quilting and stitching. I got a few blocks completed which made me proud . LOL. Wrestling pigs Hee! Hee! How fun! We used to raise them until here recently. I have always had an affection for them and they are definitely smart aren't they? Oh yes, I remember All In the Family. I like to watch all of the old classics . Right now I am on a Matlock, Murder She Wrote and Columbo kick. LOL. It sounds like you have plenty of projects to keep you busy. Are you like me and sometimes feel a little overwhelmed about all you went to get done? LOL. I want to stitch and quilt everything. I will have to look through my floss colors and see if I can find some similar to the ones I used for the sampler. I sometimes struggle with colors too. Well sweet friend, I will let you go. I wish you a wonderful Wednesday. Now you stay cool. Hugs.
DeleteWhat a great thrift store find!! and yay for the pool!! i'll bring the juice boxes ( do they make those anymore) and be right over! it looks lovely
ReplyDeleteOh come right on over, Alycia . The cool dip will be refreshing. Hee! Hee! I am so excited that the water is going in. It has been a long hot summer and the grandsons have missed it. Thank you for the sweet visit. Hugs.
DeleteGlad your pool will soon be swim-ready, Melisa! You sure need it this summer--whew, it's hot out there! Our Goodwill prices are so high that I don't bother going any longer. When you see things there that are Dollar Store items priced at twice what they originally were selling for, you know something is wrong. I do love your find, though! Thank you for sharing yet another darling design with us! Enjoy these last few days of July! ♥
ReplyDeleteOh Carol that is exactly what has happened to our Goodwill. It used to be cheap. On Mondays they have colors that are $1.29 and a few random things at 77 cents which luckily is the older stuff which is what I like. I just lucked out on this platter . Thank you for the sweet visit. Hugs.
DeleteLooks like you've been keeping busy with a little bit of everything, Melisa! So glad to hear your pool is almost ready for swimming - some relief from the heat sounds so good. I love the Jane Shuff sampler - thank you for sharing it with us. Was she a relative of yours? I really like those paper chain blocks, too - they're going to make a neat quilt design!
ReplyDeleteI sure have been trying to stay busy. I am making progress a little here and there. The kiddos are excited that the pool will soon be open, but bummer school will be starting too. Well at least they will have time on the weekends. Oh yes, Jane was a distant relative. I always enjoy stitching things about the family. Thank you for the sweet visit. Hugs.
DeleteThank you so much for the pattern Melisa. Out of curiosity do you plan to release the pattern shown in your header photo, Freedom Rings? I love it.
ReplyDeleteAaw you are so welcome and thank you so much, Lisa. You are always so very kind. Oh yes, I hope to work on posting Freedom Rings in the near future. That one stitched up pretty quickly. I do enjoy stitching patriotic women in honor of my daughter. Hopefully, I can get the pattern worked up soon. So stay tuned. Warm hugs and Blessings.
DeleteSo nice to get the pool up and running again. I'm sure it will feel much better than hanging around in the heat although you won't be able to stitch floating in it! You are so generous with your patterns. I know folks really enjoy stitching them. I'm actually working on a plastic project bag that will be super cute when done. Of course it might take months for me to finish it! But I am actually doing counted cross stitch again.
ReplyDeleteLOL it would be heavenly if I could sit on a float in the pool and quilt or stitch. Hee! Hee! I usually take some stitching to the deck and put my feet in the pool while the youngins are in it. I am looking forward to them being able to use it. I have always wanted to try stitching on one of the mesh bags, but have yet to try it. Yours is looking fabulous. I look forward to watching you progress on it. I hope you enjoy it. Have a great week.Hugs.
DeleteThank you for the Sampler pattern. So pretty. May I ask who Jane was? Love the little pic. Is there a matching pig somewhere? I think I spied some S&P holes on his head. He is the cutest! Transferware is always a win in my book. That is a lovely platter. Your Christmas ornament finishes are so perfect. What a sweet little heart quilt. You are one busy gal.
ReplyDeleteOh you are so very welcome , Ginny. Jane was a distant relative of mine so I made this as a nod to her. Her husband fought in the American Revolution. Oh yes, the little pig has a mate. I love to collect salt and pepper shakers. I couldn't resist adding it to the sunflowers. LOL. I hope you have been having a good week. I am sure you are staying busy. Stay cool. Hugs.
DeleteIt is definitely pool weather! That sampler is very cute. Enjoy your stitching time this week.
ReplyDeleteI love your R,W &B cupboard and stitching! I was going to ask who Jane was but then saw someone else asked to and it's your distant relative. Interesting! Love the thrift find! And yay for the pool getting back in business!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely sampler and of course, a big thank you for offering it to us, Melisa. A great post to read this morning...That thrift find...oh dear, my heart would have been beating so fast to find that and wow to the price. Everyone will love being able to take a dip.I love seeing your scrappy blocks as well and in such pretty colours/prints. Enjoy it all dear! Oh I watched a youtube video and learned so much about hollers.
ReplyDeleteBet those grands will be enjoying pooltime especially come next week as the temps are supposed to rise again. So many sweet projects, Melisa. Love your Bird in Hand too. Keep making good progress!
ReplyDeleteStunning blog
ReplyDeleteJane Shuff is a pretty little sampler, Melisa. I love the colors you used. You have a cute little quilt for hand stitching. The pool looks inviting. I've been away so I'm catching up on blog reading. Please do not feel like you have to respond to each of my comments....you are precious like that :)
ReplyDeleteYou are most welcome. I can't wait to start your Jane Shuff sampler.
