I became smitten with the block as soon as I saw it and I knew that I would have to make one. Brenda gives the instructions for a 3" and 4" block in her post. Soon I was looking at quarter log cabin quilts on the internet when I ran upon Rita's log cabin quilt at Red Pepper Quilts . Rita's unfinished blocks measure 7 1/4" square.
Since I already had a pile of pretty fabrics on the cutting table, I chose 6 colors and began cutting the fabrics.
Soon I had my own Quarter Log Cabin block completed. My block measures 8 1/2" x 8 1/2" unfinished.
More blocks are sure to be in the works.
Since I have the tendency to forget, I have listed the measurement that I used for easy reference the next time I piece a block.
My Quarter Log Cabin Block
UNFINISHED SIZE : 8 1/2" x 8 1/2"
CUTTING MEASUREMENTS FOR ONE BLOCK
Corner Block -3 1/2" square
Log 1- 1 1/ 2" x 3 1/2"
Log 2 - 1 1/2" x 4 1/2"
Log 3 - 1 1/2" x 4 1/2"
Log 4 - 1 1/2" x 5 1/2"
Log 5 - 1 1/2" x 5 1/2"
Log 6 - 1 1/2" x 6 1/2"
Log 7 - 1 1/2" x 6 1/2"
Log 8 - 1 1/2" x 7 1/2"
Log 9 - 1 1/2" x 7 1/2"
Log 10 - 1 1/2" x 8 1/2"
Thank you, Brenda and Rita for enabling me into another project. Hee! Hee! I am excited to build more log walls.
As Always,
Happy Stitching and Quilting, y'all
Melisa

Dedicated to my baby sister, Amy . Love and miss you, Amo. Also dedicated to my Granny and Grandpa who lived in a little log cabin filled with love.
I changed out the apron on the old Hoosier top. I removed the red apron and replaced it with a pretty pink one- perfect for Springtime!
I am joining these lovely ladies' link parties. I hope you check them out; they always have so many wonderful projects going on and provide the opportunity for other needleworkers to meet.

Oh no, oh no, oh no!!! You always inspire me but now you've inspired me in a BIG way. I love that block!!! I'm trying to finish blocks for another quilt so as soon as I'm finished, I'll share. It's easy peasy, lemon squeezy. LOL I'm definitely sewing like the wind and having so much fun. I need to put my thinking cap on regarding fabrics to use. HMMMM Happy Tuesday and sew like the wind. Happy Hugs, Darlene J
ReplyDeleteEeeh! I am so happy that I inspired you into another project! Isn't this block fun, Darlene? I had a ball piecing it. I have been cutting 1 1/2" strips and putting them in a box . Soon I will piece a few more. I am working on another quilt too. I hope to share it very soon. I cannot wait to hear more about yours Darlene. Oh yes , sew like the wind! Have a super day sewing away! Hugs.
DeleteHi, I always enjoy to see your wonderful quilts. But I never start doing that, I know me. Sewing is not my profession. LOL.
ReplyDeleteHugs, Gabi
Hi, Gabi. I hope you had a wonderful day. I am so touched that you enjoy seeing my quilting projects in the works. They bring me great joy as does stitching. Sometimes it is hard to juggle several crafts . LOL. But I try. Have a beautiful day. Hugs.
DeleteI love log cabin blocks. You made a lovely one. Hugs !
ReplyDeleteAaah thank you so much, Annelies. I am looking forward to piecing more in the near future. I am cutting strips from different fabrics as I come to them. Hopefully , I will have a basket of strips ready to piece here soon. Hugs and Blessings.
DeleteOh! And the beautiful colors you are using!!!
ReplyDeleteI am certainly digging these colors, Penny. I am trying to decide if I want the corner square to all be the same color or different. I may make a few more blocks and then decide. Thank you for the sweet visit. Hugs.
DeleteI do love those quarter log cabins - so pretty! But the 1-1/2" strips would send me into fits - lol!
ReplyDeleteThis is the 1st time I have pieced a quarter log cabin blog and I love it! I have to admit that my logs aren't perfect. Hee! Hee! But it was a fun block to build. Thank you so much for the sweet visit and have a fabulous day. Hugs.
DeleteLoving your pretty fabrics for the 1/4-log cabin block, Melisa--so vintage looking...this will be a fun project...
ReplyDeleteI always wear an apron whenever I cook (messy me!!); my Grand-mere and my Mom both always started with the words "Now I will show you how to make this--first wash your hands, then put on your apron!" ;))) hugs Julierose
Aaww that is such a sweet memory of your Grand-mere and Mom and the tradition continues. I just love that! I go through spurts on wearing aprons. I do love them with pockets so I can put things in as I bustle about. Thank you for the sweet visit and for bringing a smile to my day. Hugs.
DeleteI love the block you created, Melisa. What pretty fabrics!
ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much, Robin. Here lately , I am really into the "vintagey looking " fabrics. At least that is the feel that I am going for . I hope you had a lovely day. It was a warm one here. Hugs and Blessings.
DeleteThat is a very pretty quarter log cabin, Melisa. I quilt full of those will be awesome.
ReplyDeleteAaaw thank you so much, Jeanna. I am looking forward to making more blocks here very soon. Right now I am focused on another quilt, but I am piecing blocks getting ready for this one. Have a blessed day. Hugs.
DeleteThat is a very pretty bunch of fabrics, Melisa! Perfect for your log cabin blocks. I am like that, too - see something I just have to try making, so I make one or two just to start. And just like that, a new quilt is started!
ReplyDeleteOh yes, I am that way too, Diann. And of course seeing all of the pretty quilts in the making in "blogland" certainly leads me down many rabbit holes. LOL. I am looking forward to piecing a few more blocks here soon. Have a great evening and thank you for the sweet visit. Hugs.

ReplyDeleteOh "sew" beautiful! I see the sky along with a bouquet of pretty spring posies in those fabrics. Can't wait to see your quilt progress. So fresh! So SPRING!! And totally Beee-autiful! :)
ReplyDeleteAaaw thank you from the bottom of my heart! I am over the moon with the first block. I have been cutting more strips and squirreling them away. Hopefully, I can piece a few more here soon. Warm hugs and Happy quilting.
DeleteI love aprons--I used to have a whole collection of old old ones--but with all the moves back and forth to Fl I had to give them to a friend--I still have one I made--and I use it when I bake--but if I am cooking I don't wear one!!! Love your pink apron---and good job on the half log cabin block--oh I did start the spring bunny pillow this week!! hugs, di
ReplyDeleteOh Di, I bet you miss many of your treasures that you have had to give away over the years with the moves. But how wonderful that your treasure aprons went to a good friend who will enjoy them. For some reason , I like to wear aprons when baking too. I am so touched and honored that you added the new spring bunny stitch to your project lists, Di. I hope you enjoy every stitch. Hugs.
DeleteOh your HLC block is so pretty! I have that yellow fabric too.
ReplyDeleteOh how fun, Vicki. I have had that fabric for years. I sure wish I had bought more of it. LOL. I hope you are doing well and are enjoying the warm weather. Thank you for dropping by to visit. I wish you a lovely day. Hugs.
DeleteMy mother always wore an apron, me I just don't like them! LOL I'm glad you enjoyed my prompt and I look forward to seeing your finish! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteOh how interesting, Brenda. I go through spurts in wearing aprons. I really like to wear them when baking and especially during the fall and Christmas seasons and holidays. If the apron has a pocket , that is even better. Thank you for the wonderful block and inspiration. You sent me down a delightful rabbit hole that I am enjoying every minute of. Warm hugs.
DeleteIt's a very striking and eye-catching block!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat work, Melisa!
Hugs
Aaw thank you very kindly, Isabel. It was a quick and fun block to make. I look forward to piecing more in the near future. Have a lovely day and thank you for the sweet Tuesday visit. Hugs.
DeleteSuch a lovely block. Now you have a decision to make on how you will proceed with the coming blocks. Pat Sloan's Block a Day for March this year is a quarter Log Cabin pattern, too. She did a block parade earlier today and all the different takes on the pattern was very inspiring. I have aprons and wear them when I remember. Too often I forget until I end up spilling something on my clothes. LOL
ReplyDeleteOh I am so glad that you told me about Pat's block . I did not know that I will have to watch her block parade. I am still pondering whether to make the corner square the same color all the way through or different colors. Maybe I will make a decision after seeing Pat's parade. I really love aprons, but find I go in spurts in wearing them. I do need to wear them more often though. Thank you for the sweet Tuesday visit, Ginny. Have a great evening. Hugs.
DeleteWhat a beautiful Spring start of a quilt. You have the sweetest fabrics pulled for this one!
ReplyDeleteI like your quarter log cabins. I'm glad you started them because you were interested in trying out the pattern. Sometimes, that is EXACTLY what we need to do!--TerryK@OnGoingProjects
ReplyDeleteYour post transported my back to my childhood. I actually had one of the log cabin children's playhouses. It is one of my treasured memories. I love a Quarter Log Cabin quilt. Great choice of colors :) Mid week hello from me to you - enjoy! (nwpaintedlady)
