Persimmon Bread Recipe and A Little Thanksgiving Decor

Good morning, Sunshine and Happy Happy Tuesday.

The persimmons are still dropping from the trees.

For the last couple of years, mom and I have been making Persimmon Bread. It is a yummy fall treat to enjoy with a spot of coffee. Though I have not made any yet, it is certainly on the agenda.

MOM' S PERSIMMON BREAD

YIELDS: 1 Loaf

INGREDIENTS:
2 eggs

1 1/2 cups of all purpose flour

3/4  cup of sugar

1/2 teaspoon of salt

1/2 cup of vegetable oil

1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon

1 cup of persimmon pulp

1/2 cup of chopped walnuts

1 teaspoon of baking soda

1/2 cup of raisins

 DIRECTIONS:

1. Preheat oven to 325 and grease a 9 " x 4" loaf pan.

2. In a small bowl combine flour , salt , cinnamon and raisins.

3. In a second bowl, blend eggs, sugar and oil. Mix in persimmon pulp and baking soda.  Fold into flour mixture and then pour into baking loaf pan.

4. Bake for 75 minutes or until a wooden skewer comes out clean when inserted into the middle.

5. Enjoy

In the past I   have  added  dried  1/4  cup of cranberries  with 1/4 cup of  raisins and substituted pecans for walnuts. It was very tasty as well.

Will you be cooking for Thanksgiving? Mr. Pinker and I will be cooking side dishes to take over to my Mom's on Thanksgiving Day. As of right now I have Green bean Casserole and Cranberry Marshmallow Salad along with Potato Salad  on the menu.

My sister will bring some sides as well. Mom is in full charge of the turkey and dressing. Mmm - my mouth waters just thinking about it.

Of course mac and cheese, stuffed celery , candied yams, mashed taters, baked beans and coleslaw are going to be included on the menu, but I am looking for some other sides.
Do you have any suggestions ?

Well , Sweeties, I am off to look through cookbooks. I hope you  enjoy your day and thank you for dropping by.

Wickenburg Pumpkins - A Thrifty Quilt and Some Rusty Crusty Decor

Happy Happy Monday, Pumpkins.  The biscuits are hot out of the oven so please do grab a plate as I pull out the strawberry jam . Or would you prefer grape or blackberry?  Hmmm I think blackberry will be my pick.

Do you think you are up to starting the week with looking at some junk? Hee! Hee!

Many of y'all know that I love anything rusty, crusty, old, and  well loved . Well 30 years ago, I was gifted a huge butcher block counter from our local restaurant that was going out of business. At the time, I was living in a different house and so the large table was moved to the barn- hence how this became rusty and crusty.😀😁

Yes, it has been in the barn for that long. Well, Mr. Pinker with the help of the tractor loaded it up and brought it up to the house for me to enjoy on the patio for the summer.

It is a massive piece which included the rails and the meat hooks .  Please excuse all of the barn dirt and dust on it.

Rails and large meat hooks

The hooks on the overhead ring are super sharp.

I would love to have this piece in the house but there is no way we could ever get it in so for the summer and fall seasons I have enjoyed it on the patio.

Earlier this fall , I decorated it with lots of thrifty finds and nature's treasures like walnuts, sticks and leaves.

I even pulled out a wonderful quilt that I am calling Wickenburg Pumpkins.

Back in January , I picked up this darling quilted wall hanging from the Goodwill in Wickenburg, AZ.

Bright happy pumpkins and falling leaves make up this sweet piece.

Now hold on to your bloomers! Guess what I paid. $2.49! Wow! I just could not leave it behind.

It is machine pieced, appliqued and quilted. The backing is a pretty orange fabric with roly poly pumpkins.  Again, I was sad for the quilter who made it since it was sold so cheap, but grateful that I could bring this fall beauty home with me.

So tell me. Do you like rusty, crusty treasures and would you have bought this quilt?

Have a beautiful day,  Darlings and thank you for taking time out of your busy day  to visit me. 🤗😘

As always...

Happy quilting and stitching, ya'll

An Evening Visit and A Christmas Stamp Freebie

Good evening, sweet friends and Happy Sunday. Today has been a full day of partying with the family. My nephew celebrated his birthday and of course, the whole family gathered to celebrate his grand day.

Afterwards the boys  played outside while we sat on the porch and watched the gals as they munched on an afternoon snack.

Earlier this week, I finished Harvest Blessing Heart Block which I shared on Tuesday

I have been knee deep in Christmas decorations.

The tiered tray by the corner kitchen sink is decorated in the "farm theme" with some of the same old items in it.

It is filled to the brim with chickens, Santas and a truck.

Each evening I have been working on my Scrapberries quilt. One more berry to quilt and then I will begin the border.

A new ornament has made it's way upon the tree. It is a wee Christmas Stamp.

I finished it by mounting it on a 2 1/2" batting covered cardboard.
The backing board is  3 1/2" squared.

The red gingham fabric is from an old shirt- just using what I had on hand for a quick finish.

When Mr. Pinker and I were in Texas , we visited several antique shops. In a couple of shops,  I saw the cutest dress potholders. I did not purchase them, and of course , I was kicking myself that I didn't. Soooo ... I decided to try to learn how to crochet some myself.

I have finished a red and a green one. These are my 1st ones and are not the best in the world, but I am learning.

A mint blue one is in the works.

I am following the instructions on Youtube from Bag- o -Day . The video is called "How to Crochet a Pair of Vintage Dress Potholders and Dish Soap Dress Tutorial" .  She gives very good directions and has the camera close enough so that I can see what she is doing.

Have a wonderful evening, dears and thank you for dropping by.

As always,

Happy Stitching and Quilting, y'all
