"Where are you going? " asked Mr. Pinker as I dove into the messy quilt room.
" I am searching for fabric, " I said with a smile.
Mr. Pinker nodded and walked back to the den and settled in his recliner.
As I entered the room , my mind went back to the avalanche of fabric that took place a couple of weeks ago. Some of you may remember me telling you about it.
Anywhoo... I ever so carefully, found my bin of fabrics that I had selected for Melva's Sew Along. Being careful mind you, to not disrupt the ever so precarious stacks of lovely calicos and prints.

I worked on Melva's Prairie Rose Block.
|
I found 3 perfect strips of 2 1/2" strips of fabric that were sent to me from sweet Elaine a couple of years ago. These had to go into the Prairie Rose block. Thank you , dear Elaine. 💗
Soon my sewing machine was zooming away . I hummed a few tunes as I was having such a lovely time and in 2 shakes of a lamb's tale ( Yes , it was that quick! ) The Prairie Rose block was completed.
"Yee Haw!" I cheered! "Hip , Hip , Hooray!"
Mr. Pinker soon sauntered into the room . "What's all of the excitement?"
" Lookie! Lookie! Another block is pieced . Isn't it pretty?"
Mr. Pinker nodded and then retreated back to his recliner.
I jumped up and headed out the door. A pretty block like this had to be photographed in the garden. But oh bother , my roses look pitiful so I pinned the block to a volunteer Burning Bush which grew among the lilies and Purple Majesties.
High in the tree above, a little bird chirped. I imagine it was saying how pretty my block was.
"I agree, " I replied as I looked up at the bird above only to spot 2 staring down at me. "Hmmm... what kind of birds are you? " I asked. They just stared unamused by my question. Shrugging my shoulders, I continued on.
It was a dreary day. But I snapped a few photos of not only my block but of the garden as well. The oldest Annabelle Hydrangea was beginning to bloom
And the Ditch Lilies were smiling despite it being a drizzly day.
After admiring all of the pretty log cabin blocks, I gave myself a good pat on the back and then gathered the blocks and put them away. "It has been a good day , " I said to myself. And with that I went to retire in my recliner. But only for a spell ( You know I can't stay still for too long).🤪 😀
Today Melva will be sharing the Instructions on the Assembly and Finish for the blocks. I am looking forward to the final step. So if you haven't joined in on the Sew Along, there is still time.
Thank you Melva for sharing this wonderful Sew Along with all of us. It has been fantabulous!

Well Sweeties, that is my tale for the day. Mr. Pinker and I enjoy the entertainment of 2 young grandsons on Thursdays so they will be here soon. I am not sure what kind of mischief they will want to get into but I am sure we will be outside- perhaps splish splashing in the pool. I will have some embroidery work in hand - well maybe that is unless I find myself in the pool too. Have a beautiful day . Stay cool and enjoy your Summer day.
As Always...
Happy Stitching and Quilting,
y'all
Melisa

The other day there was a green one. Thank you so much for the sweet visit and info. , Alex. I hope you are having a great summer. Hugs.

I am so happy with the way my blocks have turned out. I am looking forward to quilting my quilt here soon. Have a great weekend. Hugs.
DeleteLove the fabrics you chose for Prairie Rose, and your blocks look so pretty together! I'm so glad you were able to retrieve fabric for that block without disturbing the avalanche! :D I love Mr Pinker's reactions. Your garden is so softly focused in your photos - they are all beautiful.
ReplyDeleteLOL it was a good day, in the quilt room. I really do need to give it a thorough cleaning. The Prairie Rose block may be one of my favorites - though it is hard to choose because they were all so much fun. Thank you for the sweet visit, Linda. I hope your day has been a delightful one. Hugs.
DeleteBeautiful work Melisa, love seeing all the blocks laid out together.

ReplyDeletei hope you and the family are doing well.
i love your blocks for The Little House on the Prairie quilt that we are currently working on. Your blocks are so colorful. It is going to look absolutely amazing on your couch or bed. I love it.
I have everything printed and ready to go. I'm anxiously awaiting the "finishing and assembly" instruction. It should be out sometime today.
I pray that all is well with you. Thank you so much for all the joy your blog brings to me. You are always so positive and uplifting and that is why I go to your blog first thing after I get done cleaning up all the "yuk" in my email. I can't believe how many ads I get. Stop please, why don't you stop? If I go into the document and press "unsubscribe" it seems like I get five more unwanted ads. When will I learn.
Have a wonderful, blessed day lovely lady.
Blessings and love are on the way to you.
Hugs, too. I hope you can feel my arms outstretched around you giving you a great big squeezy hug. You're the best.

Aaaw Good evening, sweet Debra. It sounds like you are feeling so much better. I sure hope so that is . It is so good to hear from you. I have missed you, but I am so very grateful that you have been checking in with me. I hope you are doing well and the summer heat has not been too hard on you thus far. I am so excited to hear that you have been enjoying Melva's SAL too. I was hoping to work on the borders this weekend, but we shall see. Oh gosh, I know what you mean about the junk mail. I get so far behind in checking mine sometimes . Have a beautiful weekend, sweet friend. Sending you a big Bear hug from the holler. Love and Blessings.

ReplyDeleteOh I hope you enjoy working on Melva's SAL as much as I did, Alicia. I almost hate for it to be coming to an end. LOL. We had a great time with the grandsons today. I took them shopping then when we got back swimming was in order . We wrapped up the evening with watermelon. I think they had a grand time- at least I did . LOL. Warm hugs and blessings.
DeleteYour quilt blocks are all beautiful, Melisa, and your version of Melva's quilt is going to be delightful! I enjoyed touring through your garden, too. Hope you're having a great day with your grandsons!

DeleteThe Prairie Rose block finished off the quilt top beautifully. You chose perfect fabrics. Wild prairie roses are pink and I loved seeing the little sparkles of pink peeking out amongst all the verying greens of the prairie fields around our farm. Great job!
ReplyDeleteAaw thank you so much, Ginny. I didn't know that about wild Prairie Roses- how interesting- well that was just luck on my part. Hee! Hee! Pinks and Reds are 2 of my favorite colors. I managed to include reds in the center of every block except 1. Hmmm... I am not sure if I will go back and change it or not. Thank you so much for the sweet visit and for brightening my day. Hugs.
DeleteIt's always such fun to pick the fabrics for a new block. You have a wonderful set of blocks for your Prairie quilt.
ReplyDeleteOh it is, Kate. I look forward to choosing the border fabrics. I have already pulled a couple that I know I want in the quilt. Thank you for the sweet Thursday visit. Hugs.
DeleteIt doesn't take much to make a quilter happy, does it. Pretty fabrics, stitching a block, a couple of pretty birds in the garden, little things that make you happy and content.
ReplyDeleteLOL that is so true, Jenny. A little bit of fabric, needle and thread and I am one happy gal that is for sure. It certainly was a good day. Thank you for bringing a smile to my day. Hugs.
DeleteMelisa, you have a fantastic “eye “! When I saw the three colors, I thought Yuck. (I have to be honest, I did say it out loud). However, seeing all the blocks together, I said WOW, I LOVE IT! You are never too old to learn something new! Thank you.
ReplyDeleteLOL thank you so much, Gail. I have to admit that I jumped around on auditioning the fabrics, but I was pleased with how they came out. There is one block that I may repiece. I am still on the fence on it though. Thank you for making my day special . Warm hugs and Blessings.
DeleteYour Little House blocks look so good, Melisa. I look forward to seeing the finished layout. You got a great photo of the birds, which I think are house finches. We have them here as well. They chase the other birds away from the feeders. Bullies!
ReplyDeleteAaaw thank you so much, Jeanna. I am looking forward to getting the Little House all pieced and ready for the hoop. I had no idea those were house finches. I have never seen them before. We do have the yellow finches that visit quite often. I am going to keep my eye out to see if they visit the feeders again. Have a great weekend. Hugs.
