"What ya' got?" asked Mr. Pinker as I hopped into the truck . Mr. Pinker had waited in the truck as I went into the Hobby Lobby in the big city.
"Just the fabric I needed," I replied. "Lookie, it has butterflies on it!"
Mr. Pinker politely smiled and then put the truck in gear as we puttered on down the road.
As he drove , I perused the internet looking up quilt block ideas to go along with my Pretty in Peach butterflies blocks.
"Hmmm , the finished block must measure 15 inches, " I said to no one in particular.
"What dear? " asked Mr. Pinker "Are you dreaming of quilts again?"
"Yep! And I think I have an idea. Step on it! Fly like a butterfly! "🦋🛻
Mr. Pinker just smiled, shook his head and puttered on down the road. Putter! Putter ! Putter! Obviously, Mr. Pinker did not know the imperative nature of me needing to make this new block. Hee! Hee! 😂😀🤣
When we pulled into the driveway, I hopped out of the truck before we were even parked.
" Whooa! Can I park ?" asked Mr. Pinker.
"I'm off to the quilt room! " I yelled over my shoulders and in a blink of an eye, I disappeared from sight.
Soon fabrics were flying this way and that. Mr Pinker heard the hustle and bustle and peeked in the doorway "Is everything alright in here? "
"Sure, Sweetie. I am just making my selection. See. Blues, peaches and lights. " I was beaming with my selection.
"Aaaah , OK , " said Mr. Pinker as he retreated out of the room. " I will leave you to the task at hand. "
"Ok I will be stripping away," I said.
"Huh?" Mr. Pinker peeked back into the room. "What did you say? "
" I am going to be cutting fabrics into strips, Silly. Ya' want help. " I said with a grin.
"Nope. Again I will leave you to that task. "
With a shrug of my shoulder , I went to work and made a sample block. An easy peasy block!
These are the cutting measurements. I have to write them down to remind myself. Do you do that? LOL 😀
WHITE FLORAL FABRIC- Cut 4- 3 1/2" x 3 1/2"
BLUE FABRIC- Cut 4- 3 1/2" x 3 1/2"

I think I like it. I need at least 9 more if I am going to use this block with my Pretty in Peach Butterflies that I appliqued earlier this year when I was in Quartzsite.
So what do you think ? Do you think the colors will work? I hope so.

Well, gosh, I have done it again- just yacked and yacked about whole lot of nothing. LOL.😁😂 But at least I have finished a block. I will work on more this weekend. Hmmm unless the grandsons have something else in store for me. 🤔
I am hoping to get out of the holler today. We have been pinned in all week - A small section of the road has been repaved and a total of 4 families have not been able to get out much because the road has been closed down; thru traffic was not allowed only residence. Soooo... it has been a long week dodging the flaggers and machinery if we needed to go out which has made me just want to stay in.

ReplyDeleteBy the way yes, we were hit hard with the deluge last week. At first it was a light sprinkle and I thought oh great just enough rain to help the weeds come out between the rocks in the front yard. Then I took note of the dark skies and the skies opened up. My area didn't get the flooding that some areas got in Phoenix.
Seeing the deer pop in for a visit makes me smile.

Oh gosh, I am glad you are safe from all of that rain. I was watching some of the rvers on Youtube trying to get out of some of the areas.It is so sad for those who suffered. Y'all have had a lot of strange weather this year. I am so glad you finished your Autumn quilt. I bet it is as cute as a button. I found another fall UFO quilt to work on this weekend. DeleteI love that block with those colors! I've seen it many times but have no idea what it's called. I tried google lens but all it told me was that it was a colorful quilt patch (duh)...I think it will be gorgeous with the butterflies - especially those colors! I think I said that - oh well!

Oh thank you so much, Donna. I have gone around in circles this year on what colors to use. I am happy to move this project along. I was looking last night again trying to find what this block is called- no clue but it was fun to piece though. Thank you for trying with Google lens. I haven't learned to do that yet. LOL. DeleteYour fabrics and colors - wowza! That is going to be a beautiful quilt, especially with those pretty appliqued butterflies. I did a little searching for the name of the block and came up with nothing, but I really love it. Writing down the colors for cutting is a great idea! I get very confused with patterns that simply refer to the cutting shapes as a, b, c, etc. Loved your conversation with Mr Pinker. :D

i found the halloween jar kitty/pumpkin pattern. i went to the search at the top and found it. i couldn't have done it without the name of the pattern that you so kindly gave me. thank you thank you thank you.
it still feels like summer here. it will for a little while longer. it's actually in the high 70's/low 80's. i can handle going outside for little bits of time in that heat, but not much hotter please.
how did your grandson fare at the orthopedic doctor? i hope he's going to be okay. praying he makes a speedy recovery. that's so sad - not something a young man wants to have happen to their arm. it kind of puts a damper on his interactions at school.
and then we come to another poor soul who has broken their arm - Mr. Pinker. how is he doing? i pray he has a speedy recovery as well. i broke my wrist before (actually both wrists at different times) and it is no fun. that cast they put on is yucky and very uncomfortable and itch, boy oh boy, does it ever itch!!!
well i guess it's time i let you get back to making progress on a certain butterfly quilt. thank you for all the beautiful patterns you provide to us. i really appreciate it. you are so very kind and thoughtful.
any idea on when you'll be travellin with those itchy feet of yours. my mom used to have itchy feet, too. she didn't like staying home for very long periods of time. she always had to get out and see the world. she'd say there is so much to see in this beautiful United States. my mom is 93 now and doesn't travel any longer. she likes going to Denny's for lunch and that's about the extent of her travelling. at least she's still moving her body. have to give her credit for that.

Good afternoon , sweet Debra and Happy Happy Friday. I hope you have been having a great day. Have you been enjoying a day in the sewing room? I sure hope so. Hubby took me into the big city today so no sewing yet, but I plan to sit down to the machine later tonight. I do hope you get cooler temps. Soon our temps are about the same as yours . Today may have been in the low 90s, but it is getting a bit cooler. No rain in the forecast though. I am so happy you found the Halloween jar. It is one of my favorites. Well the little fella has to go back to the doctor next week. If one of the bones is not straightened by next week then he will have to have surgery .Oh yes, Mr. Pinker says his cast is uncomfortable around the wrist and itchy. Not fun at all. It just warms my heart to hear about your dear Mom. I am so glad that she enjoys getting out and visiting Denny's ( love that restaurant). I bet she has many fond memories of all of her travels. I think we may leave next week, but we shall see. Hubby is working on the camper- not sure what he is doing though. LOL. Have a wonderful evening sweet friend and have a very lovely weekend. Have you ever gone to a butterfly house? Here we have one called The Butterfly Pavilion - it's like a butterfly zoo - so amazing - you would love it . The butterflies will land on you if you're lucky! Hope you can get out more easily today - navigating road construction is no fun!

I will have to research and see if there are any in our area. Oh yes, I would love to visit one. I always look for butterflies when I go outside - they are indeed a favorite. DeleteIt's no fun going around road construction! We were detoured a bit this summer while a round a bout was put in, we kinda liked it as the traffic was sure less which meant quieter! Your stories of your conversations with your DH are always so funny!

DeleteThat is a great block, Melisa. I think it fits in nicely with the applique' butterfly blocks. We've been shut in this week also because of paving. I'm not complaining because the dirt road kept our house and vehicles a mess! I'm looking forward to getting the house pressure washed and cars cleaned. DeleteLove your colors. According to The Academic Quilter it is a Nancy Cabot block. Country Crossroads. It was part of the blocks she designed for RSC blocks she published one year. Maybe 2015 or there abouts

ReplyDeleteYou picked some fun fabrics for your alternate block. It's not fun to have road repairs. They've been working on the roads around our neighborhood all summer. We've had to reroute spontaneously when we discover they are working on a certain section of the road. Thankfully, they are finished now, but the roads don't seem much better.

ReplyDeleteYour choice of alternate block for your latest butterfly quilt will compliment it beautifully. Barbara Brackman's book calls your block Double V. It came from the KC Star around 1940. Your fabric choices will compliment everything perfectly.
