Heart the Christmas Cow - Barnyard Christmas Freebie

Howdy , ya'll.  Grab your farm boots and let's head to the barn.  This is a barnyard post.

Can you pick out which one is named Ears? Lol . They are so cute!

I am fully into Christmas stitching right now. Two years ago I began creating ornaments for my Barnyard Christmas  tree .

This will be the 3rd Christmas in which I decorate with the farm theme.

Here is my first year's Farm tree.

Last year I decided to buy a pencil tree. It was cute, but I could not get all of my ornaments on it and I just like a big over sized tree.

This year the big tree will return to the living room, but the Barnyard ornaments will still be on the pencil tree in the hall.  I just may have to add some of them to a smaller tree as well.

I have been working on some new additions to the tree.  Earlier this year, I fell in love with the way that Rakel on Instagram finished her Barnyard Ornaments. So I ended up copycatting her. I hope you do not mind, Rakel. Thank you so much for the inspiration.

One of my favorite cows that has been on the family farm was a cow named Heart. I wish I had a photo of her but alas I do not. Heart was born and grew up on the farm. She was  such a sweetie; we named her heart because she had a perfect heart shape right in the middle of her forehead.  Sadly, poor heart was struck by lightening two years ago. She is certainly missed.  So this ornament is dedicated to her and is called Heart the Christmas Cow .

Now Rakel found the cutest pack of wooden ornaments on Amazon - a pack of 50. Fortunately, I was able to find them and quickly put in an order for myself. I have been painting them with  Apple Barrel Barn Red paint that I bought at Walmart for under a dollar. I then used sand paper to remove some of the paint.  Dollar tree twine was used as a trim  and for the hanger.  The greenery was cut from an old Christmas wreath. I just added a bit of white paint to make it looked like it is flocked. The bow is a simple strip of homespun that I wrapped some green thread around. If I am lucky enough to find a teeny embellishment for the center of the bow, I will add it later. Rakel found some teeny pinecones for hers.

If you are interested in stitching, Heart the Christmas Cow grab the images below. Many of ya'll know but I always encourage you to read my little disclaimer and note about getting my charts.

NOTE: Normally I have been able to create links to the charts and instructions which were in JPG form. For some reason, recent updates on Google Docs. has prevented me from doing that and I am not able to create a pdf without having to deal with storage issues.  Many dear stitchers say they right click, save the image and then print.  I think some have copied and pasted it to a Word document that they can print off as well. I hope you are able to find a way to enjoy this chart. You will have to click each page to save. Thank you so much for your patience and understanding and for all of the helpful tips and ideas.

Many of you know , but I always like to leave this little disclaimer.

I stitch my little designs for fun and to decorate my home. I feel very blessed by this community and love sharing my little charts, but I am not a professional designer. And I do not have professional software. Thank you for understanding . I am always grateful for your kind encouragement , your visits, and for stitching my little designs.

I hope you like Heart the Christmas Cow. I am very grateful that you stopped by to give her a gander. I have several more of the farm animals in this style to share over the next few weeks including a horse, goat , sheep and pig ; so stay tuned.

Have a beautiful day, my friends  .

As always...

Happy  Stitching and Quilting, ya'll

  3. This is probably a really silly question but I'm kinda that a way. Do you live in Missouri and did your husband work for Midwest Medical in Lee's Summit? There was a salesman with the same last name and his wife was very creative. Enquiring minds want to know. HAHAHA

    1. Aaah thank you for asking, Susie. No that is not me or my hubby . We live in TN, but I will have to ask if he has any family members living in the area. Wouldn't it be something if he does? Lol.

  4. We had a cow with the same sort of heart and her name was Val - short for Valentine. So sweet. My daughter and family have moved to the family homestead farm and I am doing your ornaments for them. Picking who gets what is a challenge. Looking forward to the individual animals! Thank you so much for your generous spirit!

  7. Oh Melisa, I love this stitchery...thank you!! 25 years ago I had a jersey milk cow I named Honey Buns. She was the sweetest and would lick me when I was milking. She took me on as her calf. When I'd call her from our field, she'd come running (kind of scary a 1000lb. cow running to you) and then stop and hug my body with her neck. I'd kiss that brown leathery wet nose. It was love on both our parts. Eventually she died and I never bought another one. There just couldn't be another one as sweet as Honey Buns. Each and every animal has a personality and it hurts to see any abused. .Patty McDonald

    1. Oh Patty what a heart warming story about Honey Buns. I can just imagine her running to you and giving you a hug. It is amazing how cows have their own personalities as well. I can tell Honey Buns holds a special place in your heart. I am so glad this little ornament brought back such fond memories. Hugs.

  9. Oh dear, what a terrible thing to happen to poor Heart the cow. I do hope lightening strikes aren't a regular occurance in your area?

    1. It was quite a surprise for Heart to die in such a fashion. Unfortunately we do have lightening strikes often , but this was the first time a cow had been struck . So sad. Thank you for the sweet visit, Jenny. I look forward to catching up on your blog posts since I have been gone.

  10. Oh heart is precious!!! My dad had some cows get struck one time. He was on the news for it and was interviewed. We giggled and giggled....not at the cows, but at seeing Daddy on the news. He's so country and he said "At first I thought they were sleep".... (not asleep).
