This and That Sunday

Wake up , Sleepy Heads!  Yawn! We are springing forward! Did you change your clocks last night?  I still have 2 more to change over

Do you find yourself sluggish when the time changes? I sure do.

Thump ! Thump ! Thump!
Yesterday, I heard a thumpity thump coming from outside . I looked out the window to see Mr. Pinker down at the garage working away.  Being a curious cat, I put on my  slippers and made my way down the hill.
"Whatcha working on ?" I asked.

"Bee Traps", replied Mr. Pinker as he tapped his hammer.  "It won't be long until the bees begin to swarm so best get ready early. "
4 of the 6 be traps being made
I stood and watched as Mr. Pinker finished building 6 new traps.

"You want a brush?" asked Mr. Pinker as he began to paint the primer on the boxes.

"Hmmm, I think a quilt project is calling my name,  " I said with a grin.  And with that I skipped back to the house . Anywhoo... I know Mr. Pinker likes to tend to these projects himself.

Two bee traps painted with primer.

After rummaging through my fabrics , I found a wonderful selection to work with . I was on a mission to work on the  Civil War Sew Along hosted by  Kathleen Tracy at A Sentimental Quilter  .  Soon my rotary cutter was zipping away- cutting strips.
Fabrics ready to be cut.

Now get on your galloping horse when you look at these blocks . 😀🏇 😏  They are not pretty nor perfect, but  they will do.  These are the framed nine patches and penny candy blocks  in the Civil War SAL.

Do you have good days and bad days when sewing? I do. On this particular day,  I should not have been sewing. LOL.  Sigh- but my blocks are complete nonetheless.

Framed nine patches and Penny Candy Blocks measuring 3 1/2" unfinished.

QUILT SEW ALONG ALERT:
Kathleen Tracy at A Sentimental Quilter is hosting  a Civil War Mini Sew Along.  This is available for free for a short time.  The 3rd step will be on her website on Friday.

She posted the Introduction in her  Feb. 27, 2025 post.
Information about Block 1 was posted  in her Feb. 28, 2025 post.
Information about Blocks 2 was posted in her March 7, 2025 post.

I pulled out a vintage quilt to work on today.  This is my Dogwood Quilt.

It has been a spell since I worked on this vintage thrifted quilt. In fact the last time I posted about it was in April of 2021.   Wheew that has been a long time ago and I have been as slow as molasses on this quilt.   If you would like to see that post, just click the colored link.

  1. Looks like you had a productive week! My sweetie asks me if I'm going to "assist" with the flower bed weeding. . .nah. . .A quilt project almost always loudly calls my name! He, like Mr. Pinker, has his own methods and can get more done without my interruptions! --TerryK@OnGoingProjects

    1. LOL It sounds like your hubby is just like mine. Hee! Hee! I think I have the tendency to slow my hubby down when I help. So he would rather do the task and get it over with . Have a happy Sunday, Terry and thank you for the giggles. Hugs.

  2. Not much accomplished today and yet I feel very tired. Old Mother Hubbard's Cupboard was bare, so I ordered groceries and had them delivered. The cupboard looks much better. A new jar of peanut butter makes a huge difference. LOL
I took time to cut fabric for another little quilt. I usually make two of each so it's the second one of a pair. And, then I started working on a list of things I want/need to accomplish. There's a bounce in my step LOL Little things make me happy.
Thank you for refreshing my memory about what fabric you use to coffee dye. I found some fabric to use for some trifles. More excitement LOL Doesn't take much to excite me. LOL Sweet dreams and happy Sunday. Lots and lots of hugs!!!

  3. I think we all have good and bad days with sewing, embroidery, painting... there are days when it's better not to pick up the tools. Your blocks look equally beautiful!!!!

  4. We all have those days where maybe the sewing room is the best place for us, but we continue on any way. You had a very productive week. Enjoy both your slow stitching and machine sewing this week.

  5. What lucky bees to have painted houses! I enjoyed reading your post about the thrifted quilt. Are you still quilting dogwood blossoms and leaves on it? And did you kayak by yourself on that trip in 2021? Enjoy your Sunday Melisa!

  6. Lately it seems that any little new beginnings of projects turn out not to my liking!! Is it just the time of year? sigh...I don't know but it is frustrating for sure...;(((
I did find backing for my Christmas scrappy placemats, but they are not thrilling me... so, no more starts, just UFOs finishing up I think...
I am resting my hands today after cleaning kitchen cupboard doors yesterday!!
    [Housework= boooo]
Hope you enjoy your quilting on flaming butterflies this week hugs, Julierose

  7. I don't like the springing forward this time of year as I don't like getting up in the dark. The main clocks were set last night, but there are a few secondary ones that will be set as we come across them today and tomorrow. Your quilt blocks are looking good, Melisa. Happy Sunday!

  8. I think your bees are fascinating, Melisa! I hope Mr. Pinker catches some swarms in his new boxes. And yes, I definitely do have days when I shouldn't be anywhere near the sewing machine! Hope you have a good stitching day today!

Hi Melissa! You were just what the doctor ordered! You give me so much inspiration. I love all your projects and I too am a "scrappy" gal. I did like your last bit of advice about success is small efforts repeated day in and day out. Those small efforts are about all I can handle but they keep me moving forward along with friends like you! Thank you as always and tell your Mr. he is a fine builder!

  10. Ah--the bees--it's funny--but I have been collecting a few little things that have to do with bees-- 2 are small strings of lights that are bee's from the Dollar Tree a couple weeks ago and then while in a General Dollar I found the cutest little glass jar with 3-d bees on it in the glass and a cork top--and a yellow and tin with a 3-d bee on the side of it (Dollar Tree)!!!
Love your pile of fabrics--been a while since I did one of her quilts!!
    have a wonderful week--hugs, di

  11. Oh my - looks like another new house you are working on! I am watching my very, very active grandsons ages 4 (almost 5) and 7 while my daughter and her husband attend a funeral in England for his grandfather. Seven days of non stop activity except for school and preschool and watching one of my granddaughters here and there. Good luck with the bee project and all of your quilt projects. You are amazing with how much you do.

  12. A resounding yes to the question of whether I have some good days and not so good days when sewing, Melisa.Love all the happy sewing you have showcased, especially the Dogwood quilt. It dances with colour. How fabulous to have boxes in readiness for bees. Hopefully swarms of bees will find a new home with you and Mr Pinker.

  13. Thanks for the info about the sew along, I am trying to join.

  14. You always get so much done and still have more fun planned in the days ahead. So happy Mr. Pinker is getting ready for bee-season! Love any and all your bee posts. I hope you get a bit more progress done on your Dogwood Garden quilt. Ta Ta for now!

  15. At our house, I am actually the one who is better with tools and paintbrushes…my husband’s talents lie in other areas.
Nice to see spring creeping into your projects!

  17. This year's time jump felt very early to me, for some reason. We understand what it's like to not deprive Mr. P of his fulfilling projects. You've been very busy this week. Your mini blocks are looking good to me. I've been piecing another holiday banner. Valentine's Day is being made this time. Loving the frisky little lambs in the Signs of Spring house. Oh, the Dogwood quilt has me in serious quilt envy. Love it and the quilting I see happening on it. The price you paid for it shows it was destined to be brought home by you.

  18. Didn't even realize it was time to change the clocks. Such a silly thing to do. We don't have to deal with that here. You certainly do always have a wide range of projects to work on. I am not that organized and never have a plan. Haven't stitched in awhile. Mostly crocheting. :)

  19. InterestingBee Boxes!! I hope you will update us as to how they work.
I like your new project - the fabrics are beautiful

  20. You were very successful with your To Do list for last week. Congratulations, Melisa. Wishing you the same success for this week. You get so much done...makes me tired just thinking about it.

  21. I just love having this extra hour of daylight at the end of the day now, Melisa! To me, it's worth the few days of getting adjusted to the time change. You've had so many interesting projects completed in March already--I look forward to what the next 2/3 of the month will bring. Good luck with your bees this year! ♥

  22. Another beautiful post, Melisa. SO many wonderful things to read about like all your projects which I love. And how neat hubby is making those bee traps...two creatives under one roof!

  23. I do find myself sluggish during Spring Forward, but love the Fall Back! Interesting, I’ve never heard of bee traps. Thank you for mentioning them. I’ve gone on a detour to learn about them. 😊Your fabric pull is so pretty and the piano border is so well highlighted by the lighter fabrics around them. The blocks are coming along beautifully! Your hand quilting is so inspiring. I’ve printed out your Spring Jar pattern – it’s irresistable! Thank you for sharing!

  24. Lucky bees! They have lovely houses and give you tasty honey. Send some to me, hahaha.
Your fabrics are so beautiful, sometimes I think I must be crazy. Buy some fabrics only to look at and think what a lovely design. Crazy thinks keep me from going insane. (One of my favorite songs by Waylon Jennings) Oh gosh I tell so much secrets about me.
    Have a great day, Gabi

  25. Your fabric selection is lovely, and your Dogwood Quilt is beautiful! It's always fun to work on an old project, while rediscovering it. Good luck with the bees ;) Thank you for sharing and linking up, Melisa!

  26. You and Mr. Pinker will have some awesome honey from those bee houses! Love the vintage Dogwood Quilt and look forward to seeing the progress on it. The Spring Jar is really cute. I hope you are doing well and having fun. Thanks for sharing with us at Monday Musings. Hugs.
