Put on your farm boots we are headed to the farm! We have work to do. 🤠
No pigs are in the pig barn. They have been empty for quite a while. We always kept a bowling ball in the pens for them to play with and music streaming from the feed room. We always like to keep our "oinkers" happy when they reside here. 🐖🐷
The hay barn is filled with lots of round bales.
So what are we going to do today? Well we do need to check the bees and feed them- just to give them a boost.
We only lost 1 hive this winter. It was a weak hive. Mr. Pinker has already removed it.
The bees are buzzing about , going in and out of the hive . They are covered with pollen so they are visiting early wildflowers that are in bloom.
Mr. Pinker has prepared a homemade feeding box which we will place a short distance from the hives.
It is filled with sugar water, and hay so they will have a place to land while they enjoy the sweet treat. Holes are drilled in the side so they can go in and out of those spaces as well.
Soon the fence line will be lined with thistle for the bees to enjoy. Mr. Pinker has already sewn clover seed in the beeyard.
Aaah and there is Edna! "Edna , dear will you come down to the beeyard to see something?" Hmmm her ears perked up so I know she hears me.
Edna just turned her head and snorted. Oh, well. What can you do? She thinks she is a cow and wants to monitor Rodster and hang with the gals.
So what do you think? A great find or what?

The gals look fat and sassy . Don't they? |
I wanted to show Edna my new quilt. But since she is too busy , I hope you do not mind if I show it to you.
Some of you may remember the glorious stack of quilts that I came home with from the camping trip last month. Well this is one of them that I picked up for a song at a thrift store.
Is this called a stained glass quilt? It is quite gorgeous.
As soon as I saw it , I snatched it off the rack for I just knew I wanted to pair it with my bee decor come summer time.
It is machine pieced and machine quilted.
A thrifted quilt from Arizona |
The quilter used a pretty yellow fabric for the backing and the same fabric for the binding.
Pretty yellow backing fabric. |
Since the bees are checked and fed, I do believe our tasks our done for the day.
The gals are too busy eating to visit us so I guess we can head back to house, kick off the farm boots and sit back and rest. Doesn't that sound like a grand plan? Once we rest, we can then pull out our needle and thread and perhaps work on a project.
Thank you so much for joining me on the farm today. It made light of the work that is for sure. Maybe next time , Edna will be more neighborly . Hee ! Hee!
Love that gal!
Enjoy your day!
As Always,
Happy Stitching and Quilting, y'all
Melisa
Thank you for the sweet visit.
A day on the farm refreshed one's soul.
Hugs and Stitches!!!!🤗🧵❤
Dedicated to my baby sister, Amy who loved the farm. Love and miss you, Amo.

Gees, Louise! I didn't mean to do that. Rodster is one Big Boy! Maybe Edna felt the gals needed a chaperone? Haha. I don't see many yellow quilts so this one was a rare beauty. So sunny! It reminds me of a free pattern called Mosaic by Jordan Fabrics. Things are really greening up in your holler.
ReplyDeleteLol Edna likes to stick with the gals. It is rare that she is seen alone so she would definitely make a great chaperone. LOL. I had to look up the Mosaic pattern. It does look just like it. Thank you so much,Ginny for giving me a little more information on this quilt. I am happy to have found this beauty. Have a fabulous weekend. Hugs.
DeleteThat's a beautiful quilt, Melisa! Perfect for your bee themed stitching and on the farm, too. I'm so glad the bees are out and about and busy collecting pollen already!

DeleteThat is a pretty quilt, so glad you snatched it up from disappearing forever! These are my favorite of your posts, getting to see your beautiful land. I love the views of your hills and the mountains in the distance and seeing what you do on your farm. The bee bucket is so neat. Looks like Edna is trying in vain to get the attention of Rockstar - lol!
ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much, Linda. I sometimes take for granted how pretty it is around here. There is a lovely view of the hill and mountains from the top of the field though. I do need to take photos of it sometime. Oh yeah, Edna has to be center of attention. She is keeping an eye on Rodster. LOL. Have a beautiful day. Hugs.
DeleteThat yellow quilt is so bright and sunny. It will work really well as a display backdrop. I've never heard that you should feed your bees in the early spring. But it makes sense.
ReplyDeleteThis was the first time that hubby fixed the bees the treat for spring. They were not too interested at first so hopefully, they are getting all they need from what is blooming. The bees are interesting to watch. Thank you for the sweet visit, Kate. Hugs.
DeleteWhat a lovely visit to the farm! You really did get a great stained glass quilt in this find, Melisa. It will definitely be perfect with your bee decor. It's good to see Edna, even if it is at a distance. With Rodster visiting, hopefully in several months you will have some new baby calves to show us. I look forward to that.
ReplyDeleteAaw thank you so much for visiting me on the farm today, Brenda. Oh , I do hope we will have new little ones running around the farm here soon. It is always interesting to see what color they will be or their markings. I wish you a lovely weekend. Hugs.

I have to admit, Isabel that Edna is my favorite animal on the farm too. She has such a personality. I was thrilled to pick up the little quilt; I cannot wait to display it come summer time. Thank you for the sweet visit. Hugs.
DeleteI am totally in LOVE with the Yellow Quilt!! What a treasure you have found. I am now looking at my stash to see if I have enough Yellow to make a sunny adaption of your treasure. The farm is looking especially lovely this early spring. Edna is a great chaperon. Warm hugs from sunny Arizona.
ReplyDeleteIt is hard for me to resist a yellow quilt when I see one. Yellow ranks as one of my top favorite colors. I could not snatch this quilt up quick enough. LOL. Oh yes, Edna likes to be right in the middle of whatever is going on. She is a hoot . Thank you for the sweet visit, Miss Mary. Warm hugs
DeleteOh I LOVED the tour!!! Welcome, Rodster. I love seeing how others keep their bees. I have thought about doing that, but we just plant stuff to keep the bees here happy and they go to the neighbor's house.
ReplyDeleteAaah I am so touched that you joined me , Kathy. It was a beautiful day to be out on the farm. We are hoping to catch more bees this year . It is a wonderful hobby, but I have to admit hubby does most of the work. It is so wonderful that you plant flowers and such for the bees . Do they share any of the honey with you? Perhaps one day you might get your own hive. Thank you for the sweet visit. Have a blessed day. Hugs.
DeleteYes indeed, that is what I call a stained glass quilt. Have never seen it done in one colourway and my goodness, it's bee-utiful! (couldn't resist the pun!) Perfect in every way ... a good scoop for you and will be wonderful with all things bees. hhmmmm can't wait to see the cabinet do-over in bees. Best part, it is ever "sew" cheery and bright! ENJOY!
ReplyDeleteok, i know we come here for quilt talk...but the critters and the farm!!! so fun!! thank you so very much for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThis was a fun post about your bees and a day out on the farm. My first thought when I saw the quilt was that it looked like stained glass. My next thought was it was a perfect color for the bees.
