Quilting Blues

Can you believe this is the last Saturday in the month? Wheew  this month flew by!

I have the quilting blues. No, I am not sad. I am just playing with blue fabrics.

In January, I started a new quilt that I am calling "On the Positive Side".  Since we were camping at the time, I  only had a limited amount of pink fabrics, but I was able to piece some scrappy "Plus Blocks".

I added four more blocks to mix- these are in blues for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge.

The blocks measure 10 1/2" x 10 1/2" unfinished and are made of 2 1/2" strips and blocks.

I plan to make at least 42 blocks. Maybe more.

I dug into my scrap bin and came up for breath with a handful of blue strings which I immediately sewed together.

These are pieced in a willy nilly fashion.  I will use them for applique in a future project.

Crumbs and strips sewn together.

The snow is gone. The sun is shining , but it is still cold. Soon I will be cleaning out the gardens.

A cold winter's day.

Still dreaming of Spring. 🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷

Bunny House Saltbox

Dreaming of a house surrounded with flowers.

I finished stitching Clover Basket Pinkeep.🍀🍀🍀 It is ready to be finished. That will be a task that I tackle today.  I will also post the floss colors I used in the previous post with the chart.

Clover Basket is stitched and ready to be fully finished.

Well Sweeties, I am off to the sewing machine! I hope you enjoy doing something you love today.

As Always,

Happy  Stitching and Quilting, y'all

Melisa

Thank you for the sweet visit.

Dedicated to my baby sister, Amy. Love and miss you, Amo.

I pulled out a piece of thrifted needlework to hang in the foyer.

I am joining these lovely ladies' link parties. I hope you check them out; they always have so many wonderful projects going on and provide the opportunity for other needleworkers to meet.

  1. Your picture with the blue treasures put a huge smile on my face. I like blue almost as much as I love red. Your blue plus blocks are wonderful. I snickered when I imagined you coming up with a handful of blue strings. LOL Of course I love the Bunny House Saltbox. I'm glad the snow has melted however I'm sorry it's still really cold. Stay warm and keep your needle threaded. Happy Saturday! DarleneJ

    1. Happy Saturday, dear Darlene. It was fun to pull together all of the blue treasures. I agree it is one of my favorite colors as well. LOL it feels like an adventure when I dive into my scrap bins- they are stuffed to the gills. I do need to whittle them down. I wish you a lovely weekend at the sewing machine. Did you get your small quilts completed? Warm hugs.

    2. I made the six I told you about but they aren't quilted and bound yet. I had plans to sew today but those plans fizzled. LOL I'm prepping some handwork so that kept me busy today. Big Tight Hugs, DarleneJ

    3. Oh how exciting that you got the 6 minis done. I put binding on a mini quilt today so I do need to sew it down. I hope you were able to enjoy time with needle and thread. Big hugs from the holler.

  2. You are getting ready to garden? We're snow covered here in northern Indiana. Your plus quilt is going to be so cute. The needlework pansies remind me of some projects my mother made years ago. Happy stitching!

  4. Love your new quilt - anything with scraps has my full attention! :-) Looks like your homestead is getting ready for spring with the green growing around. It looks like our old house when we were waiting for the final thaw before tilling. Have a great day. Blessings!

    1. I pulled out a big bag of scraps the other day. I have high hopes to dwindle the scraps down a bit. LOL, But they seem to multiply. We are starting to see green in the yard. I strolled around the yard yesterday looking for plants to move when the weather warms. Have a great weekend, Donna. Hugs.

  8. those blue crosse are just so lovely--all so softly colored and vintage looking--beautiful work on these, Melisa--I really do love a blue quilt...I will need to refurbish my "blues" stack--only mediums and darks left right now...
A bit mor temperate today here-- at least up in the mid 20's so far...I am tired of the bitter cold days we've been having. Mostly though it's that strong wind that keeps me mostly inside...Hope to do some more work on Dark Days today...my "Comfort Cloth" for this

    1. I am with you, Julierose. I am plumb tired of the cold weather. I did venture out today for a spell. I hope you were able to get a lot accomplished on your Dark Days. Isn't it wonderful that we can turn to needle and thread for comfort? That is the way I feel about my butterfly quilt right now. Have a beautiful day. Hugs.

  9. It would be wonderful if the snow was gone here in Eastern Kansas - we have had close to 30" so far this winter and the grandchildren have missed so much school since the first of the year due to snow and sub zero temperatures. I have stitched almost all of your Snowman cross stitch patterns and you have one on your home page that I think you called Snow Bucket - do you have a pattern for that? I just love and adore all of your patterns. Working month by month on all of the houses - your designs are so beautiful - enjoy your weather there! Carrie

    1. Oh my Carrie! 30 inches! I know you have to be sick and tired of the snow and this bitter winter. I hope the kiddos have been able to do remote learning. Our school used up it's last "snow day" on Wednesday so they went to remote learning with packets that way they will not have to make those days up. It just warms my heart to hear that you have been enjoying my humble charts . Thank you from the bottom of my heart. It really means the world to me that you enjoy them. Snow Bucket is a future freebie. I will try to write up the chart very soon and post it. It was a super quick stitch. I think I could stitch snowmen all year. LOL. Have a great weekend and stay warm and cozy. Hugs.

  13. I am eagerly looking forward to getting into my yard and garden, awaiting the surgeons ' release for bending down and heavy lifting. 2 weeks seems like forever, lol. I absolutely love blue and white quilts; I have a hug basket (laundry size) awaiting my sewing machine. I think you have just inspired my next quilt project, ha-ha. Hopefully your grands do not have the painful class at home when there is snow to play in all day!! Sending warm hugs to you and all that are having some very chilly weather. Arizona is warming up nicely, hoping for a long spring!!

    1. Hopefully, you will be in the garden very soon, dear Mary. Oh yes, you have to be very careful after cataract surgery. Do take care and get the rest that you and your eyes need. Meanwhile you can dream of gardening, quilting and stitching and make all of your plans. Eeeh ! A blue and white quilt would be delightful. Take care, dear Mary and enjoy the warm sunshine. It is supposed to warm up here this week. It is going to be a week of doctor's appointments here. Uggh . LOL. Warm hugs from the holler.

  20. Cute house with the rabbits! I have a few “handfuls” of blue scraps and even though I use them on a regular basis, the pile seems to grow rather than decrease…. Sew on! Gail at the cozy quilter

  22. You've got a wonderful start on your RSC blocks for the year. They look great! I am looking forward to seeing what the blue strings become. The little crewel work flower picture is such a bright little touch of Spring. So pretty. The Clover Basket is so sweet with the sheep. Our snow is also melting very fast. I'm not sure it will be the last we see this winter but it is fast disappearing for now.
