I am all a Flutter! 🦋🦋🦋
Welcome, Sweet Peas and Happy Monday .
My heart is overflowing with love and happiness.
"Why?" you ask.
Well shucks, for all kinds of reasons, but I am bursting over this gorgeous hand appliqued quilt top that was sent to me from dear Susan. ❤🤗
Aaw Swoon!!! Flutter ! Flutter!
Is it not stunning? It is composed of 20 butterfly blocks made from ladies handkerchiefs.
Knowing how I have been working on butterfly quilts for the last 4 1/2 years in memory of my sister, sweet Susan gifted me this beauty.
Would you like to take a look at some of the beautiful blocks ?
Each little butterfly is so unique . The handkerchiefs are so intricate and colorful and were carefully folded to create the most perfect butterflies. .
This one reminds me of my Granny with the muted earth tone colors.
Isn't this one striking?
The original quiltmaker embroidered a little head and antennas on each butterfly using matching floss.
This butterfly is a dazzling.
Have you ever made a handkerchief butterfly block?
Immediately when Susan sent me the quilt, I purchased the batting and found some backing fabric. Then I thought about how I wanted to quilt each block. Well, I began the other day and may I say that I am in love!!!!!
The first butterfly is quilted. I am hand quilting a flower, vines, and leaves in each block. I have high hopes to quilt at least 1 block a week.
Sorry for the bad lighting on all of the photos. It gets dark early in the holler. 😏

When I quilt and stitch , I think of my family , friends and tales of long ago. Do you do that?
As I was quilting this butterfly block, I thought about my sister and how she and her friends loved the TV show "The Golden Girls". I think they saw each and every episode more than once. My sister and her crew each called one another the name of one of the characters based on their personality. This butterfly reminded me of my cousin who my sister and their friend Miss C. nicknamed Rose. This memory brought a smile to my day.

"Thank you for being a friend
Traveled down the road and back again
Your heart is true
You're a pal and a confidant
And if you threw a party
Invited everyone you knew
You would see the biggest gift would be from me
And the card attached would say
Thank you for being a friend. "
The Golden Girls theme song

Is that little diddy going to ring in your head all day? Hee! Hee! It will mine.
Thank you so much, dear Susan for the most precious gift and for the warm memories that this quilt is bringing back to me. You brought tears to my eyes and filled my heart with more love and hope.
Yesterday I finished "Hot Cocoa" , a darling freebie from my sweet friend, Dianet at Parchesdeamor blogspot.
The little marshmallow snowmen are the cutest! I will stitch the next 2 in the series before I fully finish this one. Thank you so much, dear Dianet. I will begin Ho Ho Ho today.
Today is errand day. That means going to get groceries and some soil for the garden and just maybe , mind you , I will find myself at the thrift store. Hee! Hee! Fingers crossed I can find some thrifty goodies. I am looking for cross stitch finishing pieces and vintage lace on this trip.
Have a Marvelous Monday, Sweeties!
As Always...
Happy Stitching and Quilting, y'all

Really gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much, Linda. I am excited to work on this beauty. Have a wonderful week. Hugs.
DeleteStunning and beautiful quilt. I can well imagine how happy it makes you. I know you'll enjoy quilting it. I can well imagine how you're all a flutter. LOL
ReplyDeleteI hate to ask here but I can't seem to locate your e-mail address - duh!!! I don't recall when I sent a small package filled with some patriotic mini charms. I'm curious whether or not you did anything with them? If you'll send me your e-mail address, I have a pattern you'll probably enjoy much better than the one I sent with the mini charms. Would be a perfect quick little quilt to use to decorate your hutch at 4th of July and such. Here's my e-mail address wabbit4412@aol.com
BTW, I am definitely surround by a huge mess of everything I'm working on. The ironing board has a pile of fabric for an applique project, next to me on the sofa/couch is a pile of x-stitch projects with floss and then there's the pile of small quilts I finished recently that do need to be quilted. It's totally out of control. LOL My attitude is "who cares". ROFLOL Big Hugs, DarleneJ
Aaw thank you so much, Miss Darlene. I am over the moon to be working on this quilt and it is quilting up like butter.. LOL I think we are in the same boat. Hee! Hee! I moved one of my sewing machines into the living room so I can get more done with that came piles of fabric . Oh well, " girls gotta have fun" . Right? Big hugs . PS. I just emailed you too.
DeleteThe Butterfly Quilt is gorgeous; and you have picked the perfect quilting pattern to enhance it even more. What a present you have been gifted. I will enjoy watching the progress of each butterfly as it gets quilted. I have never seen another quilt quite like it.
ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much, Sandra. I am so excited to work on this very special quilt. The butterflies are magnificent. I am enthralled by each and everyone. I wish you a lovely day . Blessings.
DeleteI hopped to you from Jocelyn. Her stitchery is with memories of her Mum, and your quilt, a gift beyond words, so much more for your sister with those so beautiful butterflies. The quilting you have started will be a grand way to highlight each block.
ReplyDeleteAaw Nancy, thank you so much for joining me today and welcome. Isn't Jocelyn's cross stitch beautiful? I feel very blessed that dear Susan gifted me this quilt. I have been obsessed with butterflies ever since my sister went to Heaven. Each year, I try to make her a quilt. It has been a great comfort to me as will this quilt be. Have a blessed day. Hugs.
DeleteWhat an absolutely gorgeous quilt top. A beautiful butterfly reminder of your sister. 🦋 K from NY
ReplyDeleteIt sure is a beauty ,K. I feel very honored and blessed that Susan gifted me this beauty. I hope to quilt at least 1 butterfly each week as I reminisce about my sweet sis. Thank you for the sweet visit . Hugs.
DeleteWhat an absolutely beautiful quilt top, Melisa--I have always loved "The Golden Girls" and Mom and I used to watch re-runs a lot, too;))) This will be a great memory quilt for your collection...
ReplyDeleteI made a butterfly quilt to remember our trip to Venice where there appeared tons of butterflies during our visit...I haven't seen any real-life butterflies here as yet...such a lovely creature...
Enjoy your quilting and recollecting...hugs, Julierose
Hugs, Julierose
Happy Monday, Julierose. I loved watching The Golden Girls too. It has been hard to watch it since my sister went to Heaven. My sister's friends put a Golden Girls carved stone at her resting place- such a sweet thing to do. They miss her so much. I bet your trip to Venice was magnificent. How interesting that you saw so many butterflies there. WEre you able to take photos of them? I am seeing a lot of butterflies this year so hopefully you will too as the weather warms. Thank you for the sweet visit. Hugs.
DeleteWhat a beautiful butterfly quilt top Susan sent you, Melisa! While I have seen hankerchief quilts in that past, I have never seen one that turned the hankerchiefs into shapes. Wow! Enjoy your day!
ReplyDeleteI agree, Robin; it is a beauty. This is the 1st handkerchief quilt that I have seen in person. Each handkerchief is so beautiful and unique and I am amazed by the workmanship of the applique. It is a special quilt indeed. Thank you for the sweet visit. I hope your day has been a delightful one. Hugs.
DeleteGood Morning my friend - what a perfect and treasured gift from Susan! I can just imagine your face when you opened it. :-D
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing the two ornaments and website. I hope to check it out later today.
Just about finished with the border and header of the Summer Sal. It's actually in half stitches right now so I can work on it while watching tv or traveling and not have to worry about fr*gs. ;-) Blessings!
Also, https://melvalovesscraps.blogspot.com/ had a butterfly in her latest post from another blog she follows.
DeleteOh yes, this will be a quilt that I will treasure forever. I am so touched and honored . It is going to be a joy to work on this quilt . I am so excited to hear that you are nearing a completion on the border and header. It will be easing going since it is in half stitches. I hope you are enjoying it, Donna. I just started Stamp 4 today. Oh yes, I saw Melva's post . Wowzer on that butterfly block with 70 pieces! Just gorgeous. Thank you for the sweet Monday visit. Hugs.
DeleteWhat a perfect surprise gift for you. Your quilting will make it sing.
ReplyDeleteI am super excited to work on this beauty, Vicki. I just hope my humble quilting will do it justice. Thank you for the sweet Monday visit. I hope your day has been lovely. Hugs.
DeleteThose butterflies are really pretty. Enjoy all the stitching time and good memories.
ReplyDeleteI agree the butterflies are gorgeous. I wish you could see them in person, Kate. Thank you so much for dropping by. I hope your week is off to a great start. Hugs.
DeleteWhat a treasure those butterflies are! I can understand why you have it in the hoop already! No, I haven't made a butterfly out of vintage handkerchiefs. These are butterflies are beautiful! I did recognize two of the handkerchiefs. Yes, when I quilt, I think of others and enjoy recalling fond memories.--TerryK@OnGoingProjects
ReplyDeleteI was so excited to finally get the quilt into the hoop, Terry and it is quilting up so easily. I love it. The handkerchiefs are so pretty and so detailed. This quilt is a treasure. Thank you so much for the sweet visit. Blessings.
DeleteThis a beautiful idea. I have several handkerchiefs from a great aunt. This is better than keeping them in a drawer.
ReplyDeleteAaw making them into a quilt would be a wonderful idea , Ruth. Plus you could enjoy them even more. Keep me posted if you decide to create one. What a treasure to have your great aunt's handkerchiefs. I know you cherish them and the memories of your aunt. I wish you a lovely week and thank you for the sweet visit. Hugs.
DeleteWhat an amazing gift! These butterflies are works of art! So happy the butterflies found their way to you to become a finished quilt!
ReplyDeleteOh it was a special gift especially since Susan thought of me and my sister. I am looking forward to working on this beauty for the next few months. I would love to have it finished by the year's end, but we shall see. Thank you for dropping by, Kathy. I hope your day has been delightful. Hugs.
DeleteWhat a lovely butterfly quilt! And how ingenious to use ladies' handkerchiefs! Such a thoughtful gift! I've never made one, but it would be fun to make it. When I hand sew, I also think of family and Daddy, God rest his soul. After a few tears, I remember him saying, "Nothing is forever" and "Make memories, before it's too late."...thank you for sharing such a touching post and gift.
ReplyDeleteI know you stitch a lot of memories in your quilts and cross stitch pieces like me Patricia. I know you miss your Dad so much; my heart aches for you. I am sure he is smiling down upon you from Heaven . I wish you many warm and fond memories of your dear Dad. Thank you for the sweet visit. Warm gentle hugs.
DeleteOh my goodness that quilt is gorgeous! What a thoughtful gift for you. Your quilting looks beautiful. I never watched Golden Girls, but maybe I should give it a shot.
ReplyDeleteI am in love with this quilt, Linda. It had to go into the hoop immediately. I just hope my quilting will compliment the beautiful blocks. LOL, we used to watch The Golden Girls all the time. Now it is a little hard for me to watch, but my sister loved it. I hope you had a lovely day, Linda. Blessings.
DeleteThis quilt is spectacular!
ReplyDeleteI'd never seen butterflies made from folded scarves before, and I'm truly impressed with the wonderful result, Melisa.
The quilting makes it even more beautiful!!

Happy Monday, sweet friend. This is the first butterfly handkerchief quilt that I have seen in person and I am in awe. It is such a beauty and treasure. I feel very blessed that Susan gifted it to me. It is bringing back warm memories. I enjoyed every stitch of Hot Cocoa. I already have an idea for my finish on all 3 stitches. I worked on the border of Ho Ho Ho . It is as cute as a button. Thank you so much for sharing these darling stitches with us. You are the sweetest! I saw your sweet blog post. Thank you for bringing a smile to my day. Hugs.
DeleteWhat a beautiful quilt and a wonderful gift. I have a bag filled with vintage hankies for just this purpose. This was so inspirational. Loved the chalk art! Such a special memory. You have quite and artist in the family.
ReplyDeleteOh wow, Ginny! How fun. I am going to start looking for hankies myself. I am so impressed with how these were folded and appliqued. This quilt is a beauty. My little grandson loves to draw. He has bookoos of journals with his drawings and of course being a proud grandma I have plenty of his drawings on display as well. Thank you for the sweet Monday visit. Hugs.
DeleteSusan--You found the perfect home for the butterfly quilt! What a generous gift. It is in good hands with Melisa and I can't wait to see it quilted. And Melisa, thank you so much for all the patterns you have offered. They are just large enough to be pretty in a display and small enough to be easy for my "chemo brain" to handle this past year. I can't thank you enough. I just kitted the Summer SAL and looking forward to putting that up on my kitchen wall next summer. (It may take a while to get it finished and framed, so I'm not putting too much pressure on myself.) I'm off to explore a few more Lovely Blogs you suggested. Squirrel! Kris in WI.
ReplyDeletePS from Kris...You have the best thrift shops in your area! I'll try to be patient for the next "reveal." Happy hunting! Kris
DeleteAww Kris thank you so much for the sweet compliment. I hope that I will do this quilt justice with my quilting. It will be a quilt that I will treasure. I already know where I want to display it. It warms my heart that you enjoy my humble patterns. You do not know how much your kind words mean to me. Thank you from the bottom of my heart . Warm hugs , many blessings and I wish you a very speedy recovery.
DeleteWhat a beautiful gift you received, sent with love and kind wishes fo you. Your dear sister will be in your heart forever. I'm a bit emotional today is it is the anniversary of my best friend Merilyn's passing, we had been friends since school days. She died six months after Robin passed away, a double whammy indeed.
ReplyDeleteOh I am so sorry, dear Jenny. I truly understand having those kinds of days. I cannot imagine losing 2 loved ones so close together, but I am sure they are looking down from Heaven with all of their love for you. I know Robin would be so proud of you. Sending you warm gentle hugs and blessings.
DeleteMelisa, what an absolutely gorgeous quilt top you were gifted. I love how you have hand quilted the first block. This quilt will be a work of art by the time you are finished. I’m very happy for you!
