"Are you expanding the garden? " asked Mr. Pinker as he studied the moved creek rocks in the front yard.

| This past week I began adding mulch to some of the garden. |
"Aaah, you noticed," I replied with a twinkle in my eyes.
Some of you may remember that a couple of weeks ago I told you that I decided to expand the long wild and Woolly garden along the edge of the driveway , but had not broke the news to Mr. Pinker yet.😀😁

"Doesn't it look good? " I sais as Mr. Pinker moved closer to see more of what was going on.
"I just moved it a couple of feet out, " I chimed.

| Lilies and purple Majesty is in bloom. I have been removing the hostas. |
Mr. Pinker nodded. " It always looks good," he replied "as long as I can get by to mow.
" I am hoping to fill it with all kinds of flowers like marigolds, cosmos, zinnias ..." I looked over but I could see Mr. Pinker's eyes were glazing over. "Hon? Are you listening? " I asked.
"What are these ?" he asked .
" Oh well, these are snapdragons," I said with a smile . " This is my 1st year growing them so I am seeing how they like this area. "
" This looks like a good place for snakes," he said.
Oh bother, I am losing him again. I thought. Hee! Hee!
"No snakes here, Silly, " I replied "...Just lots of wild and Woolly plants. Besides, I am going to thin some of it out ( maybe Hee! Hee! )" . I studied the ground as I imagined a scaly snake slithering out from beneath the lirope. Eeek! 🐍😨 Hmmm, I think he is right.
But to not be deterred I continued on. " Now come see my Stella De Oro Daylilies in bloom. " Mr. Pinker promptly walked down the driveway to gaze at the flowers.
"Is that another redbud growing? " he asked as he peered down at the ground.

"Yep" I will be moving it some time or another.
"Well it's looking mighty fine," said Mr. Pinker as he turned away to head to the garage.

"Hey, wait a minute , Buster, " I exclaimed. "I need you to help me in my ' Amy's Garden' ." And with that I gave him some clippers and we began the task at hand - cleaning it up for the season.

That is the state of the Wild and Woolly garden at the beginning of May. I will share more photos in the coming weeks and months as things develop. Meanwhile , I best get back to work. There are more teeny marigolds to transplant somewhere. I mean I have 100's of them which to my delight seeded from last year. Yee ! Haw!
And I better watch out for any snakes that might be lurking. Mr. Pinker has me on my toes now. 😂

ReplyDeleteI have always wanted a cottage garden, Donna. I love the English gardens . I wish I had before photos when we 1st moved here. There were no plants except trees. It has taken awhile but slowly the gardens are growing. Thank you for the sweet visit, Donna. Hugs.
DeleteLOVED your garden tour!! I busted out laughing and startled my husband when you talked about Mr Pinker's eyes glazing over - LOL! I do remember you moving those rocks and not telling him. His remarks sound exactly like my husband's - "just leave me room to mow" :D Everything is beautiful, such a gorgeous display of colors. I love wild & wooly - it's my favorite kind of garden. How nice of those marigolds to reseed. Do you think Amy is smiling about her garden and how challenging it is? :) I love Oreo. Does he follow you around outside?
ReplyDeleteLOL thank you so much, Linda. Mr. Pinker says the garden is all mine . Hee! Hee! But he will help pick up rocks for framing. But yep, he likes easy mowing. I think Amy is smiling down about her garden. It is right on a chert hill that has been such an eyesore. I have been working on it for 3 years adding butterfly bushes and layering in soil. Amo always liked a challenge so it is befitting I put her garden where I am challenged. Oreo is a cutie but she likes to lounge a lot. Hee! Hee! She does like to hang out with her sister, Double Stuff though. They are quite a pair. Thank you for the sweet visit, Linda. I hope you had a great day. Hugs.

DeleteI am a wee bit jealous that you have marigolds that seed themselves. I buy plants and they don't reseed. I even take their seeds off and dry and plant the next year and they do come. My mom always had ones to reseed.
ReplyDeleteI think that marigolds and zinnias are about the only plants that I can actually grow pretty good, Vicki. I have always been pleased on how they have reseeded themselves, but I still buy a few packets each year just in case. This year they exploded and are all over the place. ReplyDeleteAaaw thank you so much, Ginny. It is a little hard to grow anything in the holler with the poor chert soil, but I have been framing in my gardens for years and slowly adding in soil and mulch. Oreo is a doll isn't she ? Warm hugs and Blessings.
