Thrifty Thursday

Happy Thrifty Thursday. Well you know I had to visit a few thrift stores as Mr. Pinker and I made our way home from our long camping trip. Pickins' were slim, but I did come home with a few fabulous finds. Before you ask  - Nope- no cookie jars or bean pots this time. Hee! Hee! But not because I wasn't looking for them. LOL. (Many of y'all know my obsession with cookie jars. )

This Ball recipe book will come in handy as I harvest my garden. I believe it is a 1932 edition.  Anytime I see a piece of Pflatzgraff for a song and dance, I certainly pick it up. This time I found 2 pieces.

Sharp- eyed Mr. Pinker spotted the cabbage chopper/ slicer for just $6.00. I couldn't leave it behind. It was the most expensive piece I bought. So I don't think that is too bad. Do you?

I am on the search for more  potato mashers. These two I found last year.

A little apple pitcher joined the couple of Watt bowls that I found last month. Delicious!

A pretty pink bowl will be perfect for spring decor.

And look at all of these vintage doilies and potholders!  May I say that I am thrilled to pieces?!!!

And finally, the lady at the antique store said I got an amazing deal when I bought the pear shaped milk glass plates for just $.50 for all three. ๐Ÿ˜ฒNow that is my kind of prices. ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ’—❤

Now you may be wondering if I came home with any quilts. Well, not from that camping trip, but... the other day I went to the thrift store and found 3 vintage quilts just waiting for me to snatch them up.  I will show you them in future posts.

Do you like to go thrifting?

Have a beautiful day, Sweeties and thank you for dropping by to visit.

 As Always,

Happy  Stitching and Quilting, y'all

Melisa

Thank you for the sweet visit.

Dedicated to my baby sister, Amy and my Nanny who both were the Queens of thrifting.  Love and miss  Amo, and Nanny.

I found these pieces at the Dollar Tree . I thought they might make good finishing pieces for Patriotic stitching in the future.

I am joining these lovely ladies' link parties. I hope you check them out; they always have so many wonderful projects going on and provide the opportunity for other needleworkers to meet.

    1. Eeeeh a fellow thrifter! Hi Alex . Oh how wonderful that you have a fabulous thrifting area! I bet you have a ball scouring the thrift stores for thrifty treasures- it's the thrill of the hunt - don't you agree? Hee ! Hee! I would love to take a road trip up there some day- now to convince Mr. Pinker. LOL. In August , there will be the World's Longest Yard Sale here so I am looking forward to a week-long treasure hunt. Have a fabulous day and Happy Thrifting. Hugs.

  2. Great finds! Oh how I love thrifting. I typically shop at a "bin" store to get "new" junk. Friday at the store things are $10 with the new shipments. By Thursday things are all 25 cents. I LOVE 25 cent pants. LOL.

I love the Ball Blue Book! That is my go-to book for canning. Except for family recipes, I do not need any other canning books. It's all in there. Can't wait to see the quilts you found. I'll stay tuned.

    1. Happy Thursday, Kathy. Oooh it sounds like you have a wonderful place to thrift. 25 cent day would be my day too? Hee! Hee! You can't beat those prices with a stick , can you? Our Goodwill has started having a Monday Mania where a certain color tag is $1.29 so I have been going there on Mondays in hopes of great finds. Sometimes I score ; sometimes not. LOL. I was thrilled to pieces to get the Ball book. I have been going through my Ball books here lately with all of the veggies coming in. It will be time to break out the canner soon. Have a wonderful day. Hugs.

  3. I love Pflatzgraff - those are nice pieces! I have a potholder exactly like the one with the rose center!! I don't know if it was Mom's or Granny's. I decorate with it at Christmas time. :)

    1. Oh what a treasure to have your Mom's/ Granny's potholder. Did they make it? I would love to learn how to do fine crochet like that, but I am not that skilled. LOL. I would love to have a display of the potholders in the kitchen. They are just so pretty and delicate. I was over the moon to get the Pflatzgraff. I can't resist them. Have a wonderful day, Linda and thank you for the sweet visit. Hugs.

  4. Your new thrifted items are beautiful! I don't go thrifting, I'm determined not to clutter my house with stuff. I enjoy viewing everyone else's treasures but I like my clutter free home, it gives me a sense of peace and calm. Looking forward to seeing the new quilts!

    1. Aaw thank you so much, Gretchen. I was over the moon to find a few treasures to add to my collection. I am lucky that I have a certain area of the house that I can fill with thrifty treasures and another area that is a little more minimal - well at least for me. LOL. But I am like you - I like to see how others decorate whether it is minimal or over the top; I always get ideas. Have a fabulous day. Hugs.

  6. Again. . .fabulous finds, Melisa! You and Mr. Pinker have "the eye" for scoping out the treasures! From time to time I thrift when I'm on the hunt for a particular something. When I'm out, I really try hard to enjoy the looking and stick to finding the something!--TerryK@OnGoingProjects

    1. Aaw thank you so much, Terry. I feel blessed that Mr. Pinker enjoys looking for treasures as well. I have slowed down on "pickin" here lately. Most of the time I do not find anything when I go thrifting, but it is always a thrill when I find pieces at a good price. I wish you a wonderful day. Hugs.

  7. That little white and yellow crochet dress pot holder brought back memories-my mom and I used to crochet some similar. I like seeing your treasures but I don't thrift, that way I don't have to find places to store it, LOL.

    1. Aaah how sweet, Vicki. I am so happy that little potholder brought back fond memories. Do you have any of your Mom's potholders to cherish? I sure hope so. Those made by family members are always more special. I think thrifting has to be in your blood. LOL. I came by it naturally from my Nanny. Hee! Hee! Thank you for the sweet Thursday visit. Hugs.

    1. Oh that is the key, Donna - is to go look anyway. Sometimes you may luck up. I cannot tell you how many thrift and antique stores that I walked out of with nothing. I feel like I do the best in small towns in respect to thrifting- I am not sure why. Alabama and Arkansas are some of my favorite states to thrift in. Have a beautiful day and thank you for the sweet visit. Hugs.

  9. good morning Melisa. i'm so happy you and Mr. Pinker made it home safely.
wowza!!! you've got quite the stash of thrift find goodies. i went into a thrift store one time (salvation army) when i was looking for men's shirts for a quilt project i was going to work on. i found quite a bit and didn't search any further in the store. you have got me wanting to make a trip to the thrift store to see what i can find. you find such beautiful pieces. i love the pear-shaped milk glass pieces. amazing!!! you did good lovely lady.
i hope your tomato garden is progressing nicely. my tomatoes seem to have a mind of their own. very slow growing. my cherokee purple tomato plant that i paid $20 (i can't believe i would pay that for a tomato plant, but i do love the awesome tomatoes - they taste so yummy) for has deformed tomatoes. some of them seem to be growing rotten. how can that be? geez!!! i was salivating like crazy when i transplanted all of my tomato plants. i thought i was going to have quite the crop. so far - nada!!! oh well patience - Rome wasn't built in a day.
take time to rest. i read in a previous post you are getting ready to go on another adventure. be safe. can i come with you? you go to the best places. i love nature!!! i love wildlife!!!

    1. Happy happy Thursday, dear Debra. I hope your day is off to a wonderful start. We had a long but enjoyable trip. I came home rested and refreshed. We used to have a Salvation Army around here. I miss it. I used to come home with all kinds of wonderful finds for less than a $1.00 , but that was the good ole' days. I love searching the thrift stores for mens' shirts too. Oh I do hope your tomato plants start bursting with maters soon. I love Cherokee Purples too, but I have experienced the same thing with mine when growing them- deformed. Hee! Hee! My Tommy Toes are starting to come in , but I am having to pick them early ; they have the tendency to split if I leave them to turn red. Oh well, I am enjoying them anyway. The deer ate my sunflowers- they were completely gone when I came back from our trip. LOL. Well, I will let you go. I wish you a wonderful afternoon and you stay cool. Warm Hugs from the holler.

    1. LOL, Susie, I look for those dirt cheap prices when thrifting- cause I certainly do not need a thing to add to my house. Hee! Hee! But I had a ball looking and was thrilled to find a few pieces. I have an affection for milk glass. I inherited my Great Aunt's and Mom's collection so it is fun to add a few pieces especially at 50 cents. Thank you for the sweet visit and have a blessed day. Hugs.
