Brrr! It is cold outside! Welcome, y'all and Happy Thursday.
On Monday, we received a few flurries , but sadly they did not lay. We will see highs in the 40's today- downright chilly for me. I plan to enjoy a day indoors until the grandsons return home from school. Not a lot is going on here in the holler when cold weather arrives. I enjoy piddling about in the house getting ready for the holidays. Ever so often, you can find me on the couch watching Christmas videos with a needle and thread in hand.
Here lately, I have become obsessed with watching "older television" shows like "Gunsmoke" and "Columbo" .
Image from Pinterest.
Trees are in the works on "Winter on Pine Berry Lane". Soon a house will appear among the small evergreen forest.
I finished crocheting another little dress potholder. I followed the instructions on Youtube from Bag- o -Day . The video is called "How to Crochet a Pair of Vintage Dress Potholders and Dish Soap Dress Tutorial" .

My doodles are hand drawn and are never perfect.
The "Year of Hearts" blocks are embroidered on an 8 1/2" x 8 1/2" piece of cotton. You may want to cut your fabric larger for the hoop and then after embroidery trim and square to 8 1/2". I used 2 strands of DMC floss and the back stitch. I color tinted my design with crayons and colored pencils and carefully heat set the color with an iron. When you heat set the color, place a clean paper towel over the design and press .

Another adorable crocheted dress. So many ways to use them in your home to decorate. Oh, my goodness the hearts are wonderful. I tried to pick a favorite but couldn't. LOL I hope you stitched until the grandboys came home from school. Have a great week. Stitch, stitch, stitch!! LOL Darlene J
ReplyDeleteHappy Thursday, Darlene. The little crocheted potholder was a fun project. I bought a few skeins of yarn the other day to attempt a new project in the future. I am looking forward to piecing the hearts into a quilt soon. I wish you a wonderful day. I hope you can enjoy some needlework or time at the sewing machine soon. Warm hugs.
DeleteHi, again a nice post and lovely pics to see. You are very, very busy. The hearts look phantastic, don't know which I like best. Well weather is not so nice here, very changeable. One day cold, the other warm. Grrr.
ReplyDeleteCould it be you are my twin sister??? I do the same like you, stitching and watching (better hearing) TV, with those old shows, like Columbo, Diagnosis Murderer, Little House on the Prairie and at the moment Christmas movies. Housework? When? LOL.
Have a great day,
Gabi
Good afternoon , Gabi. I hope you are having a delightful day. The sun has peeked out but it is still cold. I do miss the warmer weather. Oh yes, those are all the shows that I enjoy watching or hearing as I stitch. I just picked up my old Little House on the Prairie Book and have been reading it as well. Now who wants to do housework when there is stitching to be done. Hee! Hee! Hugs and Blessings.
DeleteMelisa, your little dresses are stinkin adorable . I have a red crocheted dress that was my mom’s pot holder. It’s stinkin cute also. I think I will check out her tutorial. The mornings are cold here in eastern Oklahoma. This morning it’s the low 30’s and the high will be upper 40’s. I do not like cold weather at all. You have a great stitchy day my friend. ❤️❤️
ReplyDeleteHappy Thursday, Patti. Brrr it is a chilly day in your neck of the woods too. I hope you are staying warm and cozy. What a treasure to have your Mom's red pot holder. I bet it brings back fond memories of your mom bustling about in the kitchen. Little things like that always warm my heart . You have a blessed day. Hugs and Blessings.
DeleteCan't wait to see your mittens doodle, Melisa! The crocheted potholder dresses are darling and remind me of my grandmother. We had a bit of wintry mix this AM here in the holler. It is going to be a chilly one here with it not getting much warmer than 38-39. We have been alternating between Gunsmoke and NCIS reruns since before Thanksgiving. Happy Thursday!
ReplyDeleteGood afternoon, Robin and Happy Thursday. I think winter time is here. I hope that it did not get too bad in your holler. Those roads can get slick . I was happy to finish the little potholder . It was a fun learning project and I hope to work on more potholders soon. I have never seen NCIS. I will have to check it out. Have a great day. Warm hugs.
DeleteWaiting eagerly for your new x-stitch - it'll be darling! And I LOVE those crochet potholder dresses! Oh how I wish my fingers would let me crochet! LOL! Chilly here too in FL - but another warming trend is headed our way. I'd just be happy if it would settle into one temp! I do love some reruns but dh isn't keen on them - he had to watch westerns as a kid - 1 tv - so his dad always had his own way. ;-) That's a dad for you! Blessings!
ReplyDeleteHappy happy Thursday, Donna. I have been working on the little house today. Hopefully it will be finished soon. I think it will be my January house. I am still learning how to crochet. I even surprised myself that I got as far as I did on the little potholders. LOL. But the tutorial was fantastic. I had to take a lot of breaks though- fingers and all. Aaah I do love the reruns, but I understand. I have discovered some new shows to me when we are camping that I do not watch at home like FBI and Chicago PD. Have a beautiful day and enjoy that warmer weather when it heads your way. Hugs.
DeleteYour heart doodles are so cute. I've also seen some pretty versions that Diann did. My Daddy used to get such a kick out of Gunsmoke. Those old shows were the best. Hope you are having a wonderful week Melisa!
ReplyDeleteHappy Thursday, Linda. I hope you are doing well. I have really enjoyed seeing Diann's hearts too. She always chooses the prettiest floss colors doesn't she? She makes them bright and happy and I love her background fabric. Oh yes those old shows makes me miss the old days. Have a fabulous weekend. Hugs.
DeleteThe dress potholder is way cute! We enjoyed Gunsmoke as kids. . .we've been watching Perry Mason. .. we get a kick out of the convertibles and dress styles of the era!--TerryK@OnGoingProjects
ReplyDeleteHappy happy Thursday, Terry. Thank you so much for the sweet visit on this fine day. I had a ball working on the potholder , but it took me awhile to finish it as I would take breaks and rewatch the video. It is always good to learn something new though. Oh yes, Perry Mason- It comes on after Columbo here. Yes, I enjoy looking at the clothing and hairstyles . Have a great afternoon. Hugs.
DeleteYour newest mittens doodle is darling, Melisa--I so enjoyed seeing each of your monthly creations for 2024! Can you believe another year is winding down? I so wish time would slow down. Love the older TV shows, too... it seems as though nowadays there is so much swearing and such. Call me old-fashioned, but :) I look forward to seeing your completed Pine Berry Lane! Hope you're having a good month! ♥
ReplyDeleteHappy Thursday, Carol. I hope you are having a wonderful day and are staying warm. I have been working on my little mitten today. Hopefully, by the end of the week it will be complete. This year has gone by way too fast for me too. I have really enjoyed watching the older TV shows -. I agree on the new TV shows- too much drama too. LOL. Have a blessed and beautiful day. Hugs.
DeleteThe winter mittens Doodle is adorable, Melisa! Just what I needed. Thanks for sharing these - it's been a fun year of stitching them!
ReplyDeleteOh, I am so glad that you like it Diann. I finished stitching mine today. I just have to heat set it and then I am ready to start thinking on how to set them. I hope you enjoy this little stitch. Hugs.
DeleteLoving the look of Winter on Pine Berry Lane. Very nostalgic. Glad you have plenty to keep your hands busy as winter approaches. Wouldn't it be awful if you had nothing to keep you in stitches??? Lol!
ReplyDeleteLol it would be awful . I got to keep my hands busy, busy , busy. Hee! Hee! Especially on these cold winter days. Thank you so much for the sweet Thursday visit, Susie. Have a wonderful weekend. Hugs
DeleteI just love your blog. I love how you write. I am into Hallmark movies every night and like you with some kind of needlework going on. I can't just sit and watch TV. I have never been a big fan of TV and left out of the loop when friends start gabbing about the series like Yellowstone. I love your doodles and have printed out a few but 10 other projects to choose from and it's a never ending choice. I try not to start something new but it happens.
ReplyDeleteAaaah you brought the biggest smile to my day, Franie. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I can not tell you how much it means to me that you enjoy my blog and my writings. I still get nervous every time I post for I do not want to sound batty. LOL, but I do enjoy it. Oh yes, I am out of the loop on new series too. My hubby likes the new shows, but I am fine and dandy watching the oldies but goodies. It sounds like you stay busy, busy too which is a good thing. Enjoy your weekend and I hope you get to enjoy a project or two. Hugs.
DeleteYou finished up the year with such a sweet mitten stitch. Thank you so much. Love it! I'm not sure what color I want my mittens. Those little crocheted dresses are just darling and they make me think of a little crocheted yellow dress that my mother made for me when I was a baby. Just precious. Not much decorating has happened here yet. I am definitely behind. Your house looks to be all decked out wonderfully. My dad always watched Gunsmoke. We watched The Princess Bride the other night and Peter Falk in Colombo was always a show I enjoyed. The new show "Elsbeth" sort of reminds me of Colombo in their similar bumbling sort of mannerisms. I hope your week is blessed with all kinds of warmth of the season.
ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much, Ginny. I finished stitching my mitten today as I chatted with hubby and thankfully, it made for a quick stitch. Aaah it warms my heart to hear the little dresses brought back fond memories. It would be a treasure if you had the little dress your mom made for you. I almost watched Princess Bride the other night. I always enjoyed that movie. I will have to check out Elsbeth. I have seen commercials for it. Have a wonderful weekend and stay warm. Hugs.
DeleteYour doodles are so sweet. I love the little crochet dresses, too. Thank you for sharing!!
ReplyDeleteAaaah you are so very kind, Katie. Thank you so much. This was just a quick little doodle to wrap up the year. I thought it would be cute for January too.I am looking forward to piecing them into a quilt soon. Have a blessed day and happy stitching. Hugs.
DeleteYour new doodle is just as cute as all the rest! I didn't allow myself to stitch them because I haven't finished the snowmen from a couple years ago.
ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much, Vicki. I am hoping to piece them into a quilt soon. I haven't finished last years snowman quilt either. LOL.. I think it will make a good winter project. I wish you a wonderful weekend and Happy quilting. Hugs.
DeleteThanks so much for the new doodle! Those little crochet dresses are just adorable! I think I need to get out my yarn! LOL
ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much, Brenda. I had a ball crocheting the little potholders. I would have to pause the video often because I am learning, but it was a joy. Have a great weekend. Hugs.
DeleteGreat projects! I love watching old westerns too! My ninety year old parents got me hooked on a TV series called Lawman. It ran from late fifties to 1962. All black and white. The marshal’s name is Dan Troupe. He was a Marine during WWII in “real life”. Happy stitching my dear friend! ❤️
ReplyDeleteOh, I haven't seen the Lawman. I will have to see if I can find that on my channels. My mom is hooked on Have Gun Will Travel . I enjoy watching/ listening to them as I stitch. Have a wonderful weekend and Happy Stitching . Hugs.
DeleteThose vintage dress pot holders are darling. Hope you were able to enjoy your slow stitching along with the hot beverage of your choice. it's getting to the time of year where hot chocolate sounds really good.
ReplyDeleteSo many fabulous projects in the works ~ oh I am a big Columbo fan and have it on my bedroom tv channel (all Columbo if you can believe 24/7) I alternate with Murder She Wrote and then don't forget Perry Mason - he is my 9am - 10am 1 hour x stitch tv viewing go too Hugs and happiness (nwpaintedlady)
