"Rain drops keep falling on my head". It has been raining cats and dogs all week. But I am not complaining. I do enjoy the rain as long as it is not too blustery.
On the Monday before last , Mr. Pinker and I headed to Alabama to see what treasures we could find.
"The women's clothes are a $1.00 and the men's $2. " the clerk said as I entered into one thrift store.
"Oooh, women's clothes- here I come!"
As I pushed my buggy to the back of the store, my eagle eye spotted a white vintage looking mixer on the bottom shelf. I bent down to pick it up.
"Boy, is this heavy. " I looked it over and spotted the price. " This is not right I thought so I took it to Mr. Pinker . "What does this say?"I asked.
"$1.50," said Mr. Pinker.
I quickly went to the clerk. "How much is this mixer? It has a price on it , but I am not sure if it is right. "
The salesclerk looked at the mixer and said "You got it! " "1.50" .
"Wow!" , I exclaimed .
"We will see if it works when you check out," she said.
And by golly it did. I was doing the happy dance straight out of the store. I did go back and look at the other small appliances and they were all in the $1-3 price range. I will not use this mixer because the cord looks sketchy, but I thought it would be cute in a display.
The mixer is a Dormeyer mixer from the 1940's- 50's. It is missing the large bowl. Being as a curious as a cat, I had to look up the history of Dormeyer and was fortunate to find a great article on the company's history. If you are interested click the colored link to learn more.
At another thrift store I found the 1970's Chadwick Bow Maker Kit for a quarter.
My hutch is filled to the brim with Christmas goodness. In fact, it is overflowing onto the floor , but that is ok. I am going for that vintage general store look. Hee! Hee!
I was going to decorate my hutch in gingerbread men this year, but my daughter wanted to see the vintage mugs when she comes home for Christmas so the Santas made their way into the kitchen. Do you want to take a closer look?
The top of the hutch stays the same. I only added a Rudolph sign and a jade green Santa mug. That was an easy peasy shelf to decorate.
The shelves are filled with Dollar Tree and thrifted plates along with vintage red doilies.
Hanging off the side of the hutch is a vintage enamelware pan filled with plastic cookie cutters.
Front and center is a vase filled with plastic greenery and a vintage sleigh and reindeer.
Nanny's old coffee canister is near and dear to my heart. The "C" has rubbed off but that is just fine to me. I think the snowman salt shaker is a Johanna Parker. Do you know if it is? I found it for $.50 when I was in Texas in October.
I started collecting Santa mugs in the 1990's . I used to get them for a quarter. I miss those days. 😏
The little Santa with the wild and wooley beard dates all the way back to 1968. He makes me smile.
Mugs, mugs and more mugs sit on the 2nd shelf.
My most prized piece is the Santa pitcher. The little red deer was a piece from my Granny's. Granny always had the most glorious cedar Christmas tree with loads and loads of tinsel. -- Aaah such a fond memory.
I did not pull out as many of my vintage Christmas boxes as usual, but I did bring out the Ritz box and the Christmas Lamp Bulbs .
More mugs and celluoid Santas.
Holt and Howard mugs are sprinkled all about.
Some date to 1964.
The bottom shelf is just as cluttered decorated 😁 with vintage Santas.
Stacks upon stacks of mugs.
Cheap bottle brush trees tucked in mugs and in candle holders
The vintage scales holds a box of ceramic napkin holders and another prized piece that I have never put on display.---
A vintage box of ornaments that I bought 24 years ago.
They were made in Occupied Japan.
The ornaments are so pretty and delicate. They will go back in the China cabinet after Christmas.
These ornaments are so pretty. I can not believe I have had them hidden behind mounds of milk glass for all these years.
That's my hutch in a nutshell. Hmm what other clutter can I show you? 🤔🎄🎅🤶
Well there are lots and lots of Christmas tins sitting in and around an old milk crate.
I did not put much effort in the silver pencil tree, but it is up. Hee! Hee!
The old hoosier top is sporting a new apron.
I tried to cram as much Christmas on the hoosier top without removing too much ( Being a little lazy this year) . Hee! Hee!
Wooden Santas, loads of garlands haphazardly draped, Crocks and cookie jars. The old tobacco prints in the background were given to tobacco farmers when they brought their tobacco in to the market in the 1990's. I grew up on a tobacco farm which I helped work on into my adulthood. Dad would bring me a new print home each year in appreciation that I and Mr. Pinker helped in the harvest.
Wheww Wee! Are your eyes crossed from seeing all of the at country clutter? I know. I know. I am a clutter bug, but all of that country goodness makes my heart go thumpity thump! 💕💓💕💓 And it all brings back fond memories for me.
If you would like to see years' past Christmas hutches, just click on the links below. You will see a lot of the same things, but just arranged differently.
I am so grateful that you dropped by for a visit today. It truly warms my heart. Have a wonderful Wednesday, Sweetie Pies and ...
As always,
Happy Stitching and Quilting, y'all
Melisa
"She who has the most junk wins. I am in 1st,2nd and 3rd place" Hee! Hee! 😅😀😂
Hugs and Stitches!!! 🤗🧵
Dedicated to my dear sister, Amy . I miss and love you so much. . ❤👼

A Log Cabin Syrup tin, small cheese crocks and a potato smasher are new thrifty finds from AL. |
Lucky gal! You always find something nice for less money. This old mixer is great.
ReplyDeleteYour deco is wonderful, I love these Santa mugs. How big is your house to store all these wonderful things? Some of your things bring memories to me. (I am getting old)
Your old ornaments remind me to look at my attic. I know that I have all the silver ornaments from my childhood there. Some of them are more than 70 years old.
Well, enough for today.
Have a lovely day without rain,
Gabi
Oh thank you so much, dear Gabi. Alabama has some fabulous thrift stores that are pretty cheap. Unfortunately my thrift store in our county has gone up on prices. Boo Hoo! LOL. I do not have a big house. So stuff is store everywhere. I do have a big barn/garage which is where the mugs will go. Oh my, how wonderful to have your childhood ornaments- how lucky are you! Oh yes, you should enjoy them. I wish I had some of mine. I have a couple , but I remember laying under the Christmas tree as a child fascinated by all of the ornaments. I bet there are many fond memories wrapped up in yours as well. Enjoy your day, dear Gabi. Hugs and Blessings.
DeleteEverything was filled with wonderful Christmas details, Melisa!
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a fabulous day.
Hugs
Aww thank you so much, Isabel. I am enjoying all of the vintage Santas. Each morning , I get up and turn on the lights and Christmas music. It is hard to believe that Christmas will be here in a few short days. Have a beautiful day,. Hugs.
DeleteI just love visiting your blog, Melisa! I would probably come to your house for coffee and staying for hours looking at all your vintage finds. The mixer was meant to be saved by you. What a deal! And clothes for $1 and $2? That's my kind of wardrobe! I always boast to my husband about how much I "save" him when I buy clothes. LOL. Have a great holiday visit. I think your daughter and her hubby should be there soon.
ReplyDeleteAaaw you bring a smile to my day, Kathy. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I was over the moon to find that mixer. And I did leave with a shirt or two. LOL. You sound like a girl after my own heart. I buy all of my clothes 2nd hand. Have a wonderful rest of the week . Hugs.
DeleteWhat a great deal on that mixer. I love all your collection. I have started collecting the Santa mugs. I don't have any vintage ones yet just new. It has made a nice display. Can't believe Christmas is almost here. Where has this year gone? Have a great rest of your week.
ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much, Joy. I was surprised by how cheap the appliances were. Aaah it is so wonderful that you are starting a Santa mug collection too. The new ones are just as cute as the vintage ones. I buy new ones too. They are too cute to resist aren't they? Have a wonderful day. Hugs.
DeleteMelisa, thanks for that stinkin awesome journey through your sweet memories. I love all your Santa mugs and your other collections. You have so much history through your home, and I’m sure bringing them out to display triggers so many great times in your life. Man, you can’t beat that. Hope you have a great day my friend. 🤗🩷
ReplyDeleteAaaw thank you from the bottom of my heart, Patti. I have to admit that enjoy the stories and memories that are tied up in many of my "treasures" especially when they remind me of my grandparents. These little things make me smile. I wish you a wonderful day, sweet friend. Hugs.
DeleteEverything looks great! Love the mixer! A friend gave me one this summer. I think he said it came from his mother. Mine is a sunbeam I believe.i have some of those Santa mugs. A friend blesssed me with a box full many years ago. Yes you are correct about the snowman shaker. I have that set somewhere haha
ReplyDeleteOh how fun that you were gifted a vintage mixer as well. Sunbeam is a good brand too. And how lucky are you to have a full box of Santa mugs especially since they were a gift. If you are like me, I am sure you treasure them. Did you put your mugs out on display this year? This is the 1st Johanna Parker piece I had seen in person. It is good to know that it was a JP piece . I wasn't for sure. Thank you for the sweet visit, Rosemary. Have a blessed day. Hugs.
DeleteWOW! That's some collection - love your hitch tours. What really caught my eye was the box of beautiful ornaments. Absolutely amazing. My mom and dad had similar ornaments from way back when - saddens me I don't have it. Hopefully my brother does. Blessings!
ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much, Donna. It has taken years upon years to collect those pieces. I have had those little ornaments stored in my milk glass cabinet and have never pulled them out. I am really enjoying them this year. I do wish you had your Mom's - what a treasure that would be. Enjoy the rest of the week. Hugs.
Delete(Little Penpen) you have a wonderful collection! And the vintage mixer for $1.50!! Wow, you scored! I enjoy your vintage tours.
ReplyDeleteAaw thank you so much, Penny. The little Santa mugs have always reminded me of my Granny . It has taken years to collect these things and hold lots of fond memories. Wasn't that an amazing deal on the mixer? I am going to pay more attention to the appliances at that particular thrift store from now on. Enjoy your day, sweet friend. Hugs.
DeleteThat mixer is a fantastic find! I think we had a bow maker kit like that in the early 70s. Those beautiful ornaments, made in occupied Japan - wow! Your hutch tours are golden, Melisa, I love them. Does Mr. Pinker ever help/assist in placement? ;)
ReplyDeleteI was jumping for joy when I found out the mixer was just a $1.50. You can not beat that with a stick. Aaah thank you so much for the kind compliment on my hutch. No , Mr. Pinker stays clear of me when I am decorating. Bless his heart. He is like a bull in a china shop when it comes to moving breakables around. LOL But he would help if I needed him. Have an awesome day, sweet friend. Hugs.
DeleteWhat a find with the mixer, Melisa! Always enjoy your parades!
ReplyDeleteAaaw thank you so much , Robin. I just could not leave it behind for that price. It is cute to look at and perhaps dream of cookies. Hee! Hee! Enjoy your day. Hugs.
DeleteAwesome collection, Melisa! It brought back a few memories for me too! I love the log cabin syrup tin and the new mixer - wow only $1.50! That is awesome! Thanks for sharing your treasures with us!
ReplyDeleteAaaw that warms my heart to hear that it brought back fond memories. The log cabin syrup tin is one of my favorites. I keep it out year round. I hope you are having a great week. Hugs.

ReplyDeleteI couldn't believe it when I saw the price. Hubby and I have found some good thrift stores lately that have reasonable prices. I always keep my eyes peeled for a Santa mug but they are getting harder to find. I am feeling much better; thank you. I hope you are too. Warm Hugs.
Delete$1.50. . .what a deal! I like your rearrangements! I hope you are feeling like your usual self.--TerryK@OnGoingProjects
ReplyDeleteI couldn't believe my eyes, Terry. I felt a little guilty , but when I saw the other appliances were priced that way then I knew it wasn't a mistake. I am feeling so much better. My energy level is returned which feels fantastic. I hope you are having a great week. Enjoy your day. Hugs.
DeleteI love your hutch tours, Melisa! Your Santa mug collection is fabulous. You make me want some, lol! My mom had a box of metallic ornaments like that - now I wonder what happened to them. You always make me think about those fun (now) vintage things that I remember from growing up!
ReplyDeleteAaww thank you so much, Diann. The Santa mugs are always a favorite to pull out each Christmas. It would be a treasure if you could locate your mom's ornaments. ReplyDeleteAaah you are always so kind, Jeanna. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Last year the silver tree had a lot more ornaments on it. I was just glad to get it up this year. LOL. Have a blessed day. Hugs.
DeleteDear Mz Clutterbug, that's not clutter. It's a collection of fun. You had fun gathering and collecting and now you have fun displaying it in your home. And visitors take time, lots of time to ooh and aah. It's a delightful hutch tour!!! Enjoy your day doing something that puts a song in your heart. Big hugs my sweet friend!! DarleneJ
ReplyDeleteAaah shucks, Darlene. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I have to admit that I have had a lot of fun collecting it. Hee! Hee! Probably too much fun! Sometimes I just want to put it all away , but then I come back to my senses. LOL Have a wonderful day , sweet friend. You always know how to make me smile!
DeleteWhat a jolly display of all the wonderfulness that is Santa. I always enjoy viewing your displays in repeat because there is so much to see and I don't want to miss anything. It takes a few times through. I have ornaments from many eras and treasure every one. We got the tree up and the final touches will be added over the next few evenings. I also have an enormous rebar star that my son made in Jr. High in metal shop and I had to replace the lights on it this year. Wrapping and wrapping the lights seems a never ending chore but the first time I see it at night, it is all worth it.
ReplyDeleteOh it is so wonderful to hear that you are just about done decking the halls. Oooh your rebar star sounds intriguing and how precious that your dear son made it- definitely a treasure . I bet if is just beautiful when lit. Do you use white lights or colored? Have your ever seen the tobacco stick stars. I want to make one of those. Thank you for the sweet visit, Ginny. Enjoy your day decorating.Hugs.
DeleteMy goodness you are a clutter bug! I love it! It's really fun looking at it all. Thanks for sharing and Merry Christmas to you and your family. Margie \TN
ReplyDeleteLOL, I am a collector. I sorta go crazy at Christmas time. Hee! Hee! I have one grandson that likes to pick up the "old stuff" and look at them which warms my heart. I hope the grandsons will have fond memories of the house all decked out for the season. Maybe they will. I wish you a very Merry Christmas as well, Margie. Enjoy the rest of the week and thank you for the sweet visit. Hugs.
