Sniffle , Sniffle, Cough , Cough
Oh bother, that was how last week was for me. A winter bug hit me like a ton of bricks, and I spent days in bed .
In between naps, I watched Andy Griffith, but other than that my days lingered with the sniffles. " I have lost a whole week, " I told Mr. Pinker yesterday. "I think I lost a couple of pounds too." Hee! Hee! I did not have an appetite at all. But Mr. Pinker was a trooper and made chicken noodle soup which certainly put me on the path to recovery.

What all did I miss out on this week as I swam in a mountain of tissues? Well, the grandsons' first basketball games (though I did watch a little via Facetime), the Christmas parade ( 1st time in 10 years) and all of the Christmas chores that I was anxious to tend to. Anywhoo, I am feeling fit as a fiddle now.
In fact, I felt so good last night, that I finished the applique and the embroidery work on the freebie from Bunny Hill Designs called A Merry Little Christmas,. I needle turn appliqued my pieces and added a snowflake button for the toboggan pom pom. I also changed the words to " A Very Merry Winter " so I can keep it out throughout the winter season. It will go into the hoop this week.
As I was looking through my little unfinished quilt tops, I found a wee 4 patch to put in the hoop as well.
Are you ready for Christmas yet? No not me.
Mom and I are narrowing down our Christmas menu. One of the sides that I will bring is my "Over the Top Green Bean Casserole". Green bean casseroles used to linger around as a leftover until I made this one and now it is one of the family favorites and is gobbled up in no time.
OVER THE TOP GREEN BEAN CASSEROLE
INGREDIENTS
6 strips of bacon, cooked and crumbled
1/2 cup onion diced
1 1/2 cups of mushrooms , chopped
3 cloves garlic minced

Add dash of salt, pepper and Tony Chachere's Creole Seasoning . Stir in half of French fried onions. Pour into casserole dish . ( I bake mine in the iron skillet) . Bake at 350 for 30 minutes. After baking, top with remaining French fried onions. Bake for 5 minutes.

Oh, oh, oh it sounds not good. Hope your health has improved and you can do adain all the nice things you want. Well a lot of people I know battle against a bad cold.
ReplyDeleteThe casserole looks yummy. Oh my, the holidays with all the good meals and sweets.
The winter quilt is fantabulous.
Wish you all the best and send big hugs,
Gabi
I have not had such a terrible cold in a decade or longer, but today I am feeling a lot better. I drank lots of water and the chicken noodle soup and oranges did the trick. I think that " old flu bug " is going around though. Thank you so much , dear Gabi for the sweet well wishes and visit. Have a great week. Hugs.
DeleteI had a feeling you were ill and in bed. Don't overdo it or you'll be down again. That little 4 patch quilt is adorable. Look at you ready to put the Bunny Hill quilt in the hoop. Woohoo!!! I love your decorated tree. My daughter had a little yellow chair like the one you shared. She might still have if one of my teenage stepsons hadn't decided to sit on it. I was so disappointed in his behavior. My husband was livid! I enjoyed my visit with my daughter and her family; I flew home yesterday afternoon and it feels good to be home. Take care of yourself Mz Melisa. Darlene J
ReplyDeleteHi, Darlene. I have missed talking to you this past week. Goodness was that a humdinger of a cold. I have never slept so long in years. LOL, But I am feeling good now. Aaah the poor little chair. I wish I had my original chair but there is no telling where it went. Mom was not much of a saver like me. Hee! Hee! I wondered if you were still in Texas. I did not know if you were going to stay till the new year or not. I am so glad you had a good visit. There is nothing like being back in your own bed, but I am sure you miss your daughter too. My daughter comes home this weekend. I am excited! Warm hugs.
DeleteI'm glad to know that you're already recovered from that cold, Melisa.
ReplyDeleteNow it's time to get your act together for Christmas!
These are hectic days of preparations but I'm sure that in the end everything will turn out perfectly.
Beautiful work and decorations, my friend.
Kisses from Spain
Oh you are so right, Isabel. I have got to put it in high gear and get busy because the clock is ticking down. Fortunately , I checked off a few chores off the list today. I hope you are getting to enjoy the holiday season with all there is to do. Hugs and love.
DeleteGlad you are feeling so much better and ready to get busy with the holiday shuffle. Yum on the green bean casserole. I never thought to add bacon! Have a beautiful visit with your daughter and her new hubby. Special times!!!
ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much , Kathy for the well wishes. It was a "terrible cold bug" . But fortunately it did not last long for me. Oh yes, the bacon makes the greenbean casserole over the top. Of course, I like bacon on anything. Hee! Hee! I hope you are having a good holiday season. Merry Christmas. Hugs.
DeleteBeing sick just before the holidays is never fun, but hopefully that means you are immune to getting sick during the holiday!
ReplyDeleteIt is for the birds to be sick during the holidays. I am glad I am better. Mom and Dad are still sick ( they have had it longer than I did). Hopefully, they will feel better soon. Thank you for the sweet visit, Kate and have a wonderful week. Hugs.
Delete(Little Penpen) I think your bug bit me too. It seems to always bite around the holidays for me. Glad you are feeling better. You and I will need to let some things go this year, instead of killing ourselves to makeup for lost time. Your little chair and thermos are adorable. And I like the little winter piece you are working on. Have a good week!!
ReplyDeleteOh, Penny, I am so sorry to hear that you have been feeling ill too. I think it is going around everywhere. I do wish you a quick recovery. Oh yes, I told my daughter that I am going to get what I can do , but it will have to do when she comes for a visit. I guess I worry too much, because it always seems to work out each year. Have a wonderful week and thank you for the sweet visit. Merry Christmas. Hugs.
DeleteWhat a shame you were ill! My husband has been nursing a nasty cold for over a week now, it exhausted him and he is still coughing and sneezing. I hope you have bounced back and are able to enjoy the pre-Christmas life as you should. :) That casserole looks divine.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like your hubby has exactly what I had, Linda. I could not stop sneezing as well. It is going around here. Mom and Dad has it too. Fortunately , hubby is still well. I hope you do not get it especially so close to Christmas. I wish your hubby a speedy recovery. Enjoy your week, sweet friend. Hugs.
Delete🙏 we are praying
ReplyDeleteAaah thank you from the bottom of my heart , dear Elizabeth. I appreciate all of the prayers and well wishes. They really mean the world to me. I feel a lot better today. I think the cough has subsided. Warm love and hugs . Merry Christmas.
DeleteGlad to hear you are on the mend - it's difficult isn't it during the holiday? Good for hubby for stepping up! Thanks for sharing the recipe - sent it to hubby - he insists on the usual but a little change is a good thing for recipes, right? :-) Love the freebies - thank you for sharing them too!
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
Hi Donna. It sure is the pits being sick especially during the holidays. Hubby was a great sport and makes a great nurse maid when I need one. He is a keeper. Aaah , let me know if your hubby tries the green bean casserole. The bacon just makes it extra special. Have a wonderful week. I hope you are getting to spend time with your daughter. Hugs.
DeleteI've been right there with you, Melisa! Finally after a week and a half, my fog began to clear and I actually had a bit of energy on Thursday. Now I'm good to go! I'm sorry you caught this bug but so glad you are feeling better now. Don't overdo yourself!!! Love your new little finds...especially the milk glass. That thermos does bring back some memories of lunches long ago! Have a great week my friend and know you were missed! Hugs and love, B
ReplyDeleteOh, I am so sorry to hear that you having been feeling poorly too, Brenda. I think the bug is spreading like wildfire. It is good to hear that you are starting to feel better though. You take care too. Can you believe the milk glass was only a couple of dollars? I had already cleaned my milk glass cabinet and had to rearrange some things to add those. I was thrilled though. Have a wonderful week, Brenda. Enjoy all of the holiday happenings. Hugs.
DeleteYou find the BEST stuff on your adventures! Merry Christmas! Thanks for sharing with us at Monday Musings!
DeleteSorry you were sick, but happy to hear that you are feeling better, Melisa! Take it easy and listen to your body about resting when needed as you don't want to relapse. Your two little quilts are darling. Hold the phone, the younger daughter got married! Best wishes to them! Have a wonderful week.
ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much, Robin. I haven't felt that poorly in quiet a spell. I am not one that usually gets colds so that one through me for a loop. LOL.But I am feeling good today- no coughing or sneezing. Oh I can not believe I didn't tell you that news . I will have to write and tell you about the my DD. Hugs and love.
DeleteSo glad you are feeling better! It's so hard to be sick at this time of year when there is so much to be done!
ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much , dear Kathy. It is terrible to be down especially at Christmas time. I am so grateful that I was able to kick that old bug to the curb before the weekend though. My daughter will be in and I wouldn't want her to get sick . LOL. Have a blessed and wonderful week. Hugs.
DeleteI missed you and am glad that you are feeling better. I did not have a chair like that. I did have a rocking chair that I loved and sat in all of the time. . .until I grew too big to fit in it. . .one day it wasn't there. . .I hope where ever it went, the next person loved it as much as I did,--TerryK@OnGoingProjects
ReplyDeleteHappy Monday, dear Terry. I missed checking in with you and seeing all of your pretties and what you have been up to as well. It was a bummer kinda week, but I am glad I am feeling better. Oh you made me think back to my old rocker too. Did yours have a little front and bottom cushion? Mine disappeared as well. LOL. Wouldn't you love to have yours back? I wish you a great week. Hugs and love.
DeleteBuenos dias amiga y bella Meli Como SIEMPRE es delicioso pasar por tu casita tan bella de bellas labores y olores deliciosos jajjaja Gracias corazón por tus regalos. Besos de tu fiel amiga y seguidora
ReplyDeleteDianet
Aaah you are always the sweetest, dear Dianet .I am so very grateful that you dropped in to visit me. I hope your week is off to a good start especially as the holidays approach. I am sure you are staying very busy. Have a wonderful week, sweet friend. Hugs.
DeleteI hope you feel so much better. The green bean recipe sounds delish!
ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much, dear Jeanna for the well wishes. I am feeling a whole lot better. I had not been that sick in awhile. The "bug " is going around though. I wish you a wonderful week . Merry Christmas . Hugs.
DeleteI'm so sorry you were sick, Melisa - I've been thinking about you! Glad you're feeling better. I'm not sure I'm ever quite ready for Christmas, but it will come whether we are or not, right?! I love your little quilt top with the green plaid - that will be fun to stitch on. Your green bean casserole sounds yummy!
ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much , Diann. It was just the old "cold bug" , but goodness was it rough. I am feeling 100% better though . I don't think I am ever ready for Christmas either. Doesn't it seem like this month is flying by? I hope to finish that little plaid quilt this week. It will be a fun one to have out. Have a great week. Hugs.
DeleteI also lost a week--and am still struggling with this cold--our up and down temps (44 today and FOGGY!!) don't help at all I feel.
ReplyDeleteOh, Melisa, when I saw that little chair it brought me right back to the one I had as a child--it was a yellow one with flowers painted on it...I loved that chair!! I wonder what happened to it???
Happy to hear you are feeling better --so much to get done during this run-up to Christmas--
I hope I got my final grocery shopping done this morning....
We will have two days of visits from my family as they cannot all make it on the same day--so Christmas Eve and day after Christmas--Tom and I will rest up on the actual day for sure!!:))) Chicken/rice casserole for the Eve and yet to figure out for the day after...????
Hope you take it easy--as much as you can-- so you don't get a rebound now...Hugs, Julierose
I have been thinking about you , Julierose and was wondering how you and your DH were doing. I sure hope you both feel better real soon. No the cooler weather does not help at all does it? It has warmed up here, but it has been raining. It just warms my heart that the little chair brought back fond memories. Mine disappeared just like yours. Wouldn't you love to have your own chair back? Sounds like you are staying on top of getting all of those Christmas tasks done . Chicken and rice casserole sounds so yummy for Christmas Eve. Hmmm I am going to suggest that to my kiddos for a possible meal during the holidays. We will celebrate Christmas Eve here at the house and Christmas Day we will travel down the road to mom's but that is only 2 miles so not much traveling. LOL. I wish you a good week . Try to rest up as much as possible before the big days. Merry Christmas . Hugs.
DeleteSorry to hear you have been sick. Half my house got something... the girl was out of school one day and I've had a few sit and relax days with nothing getting done. Hope you have a busy completing tasks week. Neat that you got to see some of the basketball game from home.
ReplyDeleteI think that "cold bug' is going around this year. I am so sorry to hear that you have had it in your household. I hope you all do not get sick and wish Miss E. a quick recovery. I am sure your kiddos are getting excited for Christmas. I was happy I got to watch the grandsons from home even if it was for a short time. The games looked like they were action packed for sure. Thank you for the sweet visit, Deb. Have a great week. Hugs.
DeleteOpps--sorry you lost a week--now it's my turn--been really ill since last Fri--don't feel any better--so did call the doctors office--it sure is not a good time of the year to be under the weather--glad you are back on your feet, but take it easy girl--we need you--hugs, di
ReplyDeleteOh , I am so sorry to hear that you have been under the weather too, Di especially with all that you have going on with the move, rearranging everything and Christmas as well. I hope you were able to get a doctor's appointment or at least get some medicine. It is a bummer being sick this time of the year isn't it. I wish you a speedy recovery. Do take car of yourself. Hugs.
DeleteMelisa, so sorry you have been sick, hope you feel 100° better quickly. Your snowman quilt is stinkin adorable. Love him and your green bean recipe sounds yummy. Take care and take it easy. 🩷🤗
ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much, dear Patti. I am feeling 10x better than I did this time last week. The whooping and sneezing has subsided and I have my energy back. I can not wait to get that little snowman quilted and on the wall soon. Have a beautiful week, sweet friend and Merry Christmas. Hugs.
DeleteHappy to hear you’re on the mend. Love the mini snowman quilt. I love to see your other room decorations besides the hutch. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteAaah thank you so much, Gail. I feel a whole lot better. That was a rough cold to have. The little snowman quilt was a fun one to work on. Aaah and thank you for the kind words n my living room photo . I will have to start taking more photos of other areas. Have a great week and Merry Christmas . Hugs.
DeleteSuch good news that you are over what bug bit you! Your little 4-patch quilt is darling. .Decorating around here has been slow. No tree -- yet -- but the quilts are up and out. Today I laid out 3 nativities. It's coming together gradually. Hope you continue to feel weel, Melisa.
ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much, Susie. I am feeling a whole lot better. Now you are a girl after my own heart with the quilts coming out first- Hee! Hee! That is exactly what I do. I bet everything is looking fabulous. I wish you a wonderful time decorating. Merry Christmas. Hugs.
DeleteSo sorry you were down and out for a whole week, glad you have perked back up.
ReplyDeleteOh thank you s much, Vicki. I am feeling 100% better . That was a rough week for sure. But I am energized and ready to tackle some chores. Hee! Hee! Have a great week and Merry Christmas. Hugs.
DeleteSo glad you navigated the nasty cold/flu and are back on track for a wonderful fun family Christmas celebration. Wishing you peace and love and blessings from above Melisa ps have never made a green bean casserole ~ I think I just might have to try this :)
ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much, dear. That was a nasty old bug, but I am ready raring to go now. LOL. I have been piddling about the house all day and making good headway on chores. Let me know how you like the green bean casserole if you give it a try. I hope you like it. I wish you a blessed and beautiful Christmas as well. Love and hugs.
DeleteMiss Anonymous above with the ' never made a green bean casserole ' was me (nwpaintedlady)
ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much, dear Sharon. I hope you give it a try . The bacon makes all the difference . LOL. Hugs and love.
DeleteWhat a sweet mini you have. That snowman is adorable. 'Tis the season for the colds. My hubs has been down with it as well. I'm glad you are back on track. Thanks for sharing in my Sew and Tell party.
ReplyDeleteAaw thank you so much, Melva. He was a fun little snowman to work on. I do hope your hubby feels better very soon. I think the "bug " is going around everywhere. I am glad you are feeling better. Warm hugs.
DeleteI am glad to hear you are better and up to your usual mischief again. Sorry to hear you had a bug that kept you down. The Christmas tree is so sweet! My good dishes are Milk Glass. I have both hobnail and grape vine pieces. Those are great finds. The little chair is adorable. Thank you for your recipe for green beans. Sounds yummy. We are finally getting the tree up. Things got away from me a bit this year. That little 4patch is just so bright and filled with holiday jollies. I really like it. A Merry Little Winter will keep your quilt on display for much longer. Brilliant idea!
ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much, Ginny. I am still playing catch up- losing a week is the pits. LOL especially when sick. Aaah I bet your milk glass dishes are so so pretty . I have the a few sandwich plates but not the dishes. I saw my dream milk glass punch bowl set at a thrift store the other day. I could kick myself for not getting it. Of course when I went back it was gone. I hope to finish the little quilts this week, but we shall see. LOL. Have a great day. Hugs.
DeleteDear Melisa, I'm so happy to know that you are feeling better, and maybe recovering your lost week. I also lost 2 weeks, very tired and voiceless. Your mini is adorable, I love this cute guy! Your green mini is sweet too. Thank you for sharing your pretty decorations and recipe!
ReplyDeleteAaw thank you so much, Frederique for the well wishes. I am so sorry that you have been sick as well. Are your students out for Christmas break yet? It is not good to be voiceless when you have to teach is it? Bless your heart. I hope you are feeling a lot better. Warm hugs and well wishes.
DeleteIt is truly the worst time to be sick during the Christmas season when there is so much to do! How nice to have a hubby to make your chicken noodle soup. How awful to miss Grandkid events. They grow up so fast and make us so young. How lucky you are to have them close by. Enjoy what sewing and cleaning and wrapping you have to do. Thanks for all your positivity this year and all the wonderful projects you have shared with us.
ReplyDeleteOh it sure is the pits to be sick during the holidays. I am grateful that I bounced back as quick as I did. I was afraid that it would linger into this week when my youngest daughter is coming home. I was super sad to miss the grandson's first games. I always enjoy cheering them on. The little ones are a hoot to watch. LOL. I wish you a very Merry Christmas and thank you for the sweet visit. Hugs.
DeleteThat casserole looks amazing Melisa! I hope you had a great Christmas and may your 2025 be filled qith joy and blessings for you and your family!
