It is another beautiful Slow Stitching Sunday. Yesterday I spent much of the day pulling weeds and working in the garden before the rains came. I gave myself a good pat on the back for what I accomplished.
 |
| Another peek at Melva's Heart block. I just adore it! |
Once I went inside, I cut out more background squares for my Berries and Butterflies quilt.
I need 25 butterflies total and I think I need 40 berries, but I will have to refer back to my notes just to make sure.

 |
| Dollar General has little faux wooden strawberries for a dollar. I thought this would make a good finishing piece later on for a stitch. |
The background fabric that I chose for the next batch of butterflies is more of a bubblegum pink. Oooh so pretty.
So that is what I will be working on today- bookoos of butterflies. Well to be honest , I will be happy to get 1 or 2 butterfly bodies appliqued before I flutter to the next project which will be the beautiful Hankie Butterfly quilt.
This quilt top was a gift from dear Susan and it went into the hoop earlier this month. I am just in love with this quilt. ❤
This hankie butterfly is so elegant!
Thank you, sweet Susan for such a precious gift. π€

A couple of weeks ago , Mom gave me her strawberry apron that she wore while selling strawberries on the farm. The berries would be sold by 12:00 each day. Many customers would call and preorder just to make sure they could pick up fresh berries. Those were the good old days. I hung Mom's apron on the vintage Hoosier top for the season, but I will be changing out this apron soon.

The other day I bought a vintage apron at the antique shop for $4.00.
Isn't the vintage fabric so pretty? ❤ππ

Hmm.... What Should I do This Week?
π1.Continue working in the gardens. There is plenty of weeds to pull and I need to transplant some polka dot plants. ( My new favorite. )
π2. Work on Bee Haven Cottage
π3. Work on stitching a new Strawberry Sampler
π4. Piece more Four Patch Fun blocks.

|
| As I pieced Melva's Heart block earlier this past week , I also worked on Four Patch Fun. |
 |
| Two more Four Patch Fun blocks to add to my growing bath. |
π5. Whatever other mischief I can get into. Now that will not be too hard. Hee!Hee!
Yesterday , I shared Bunny's Harvest Roundabout. Well I am still playing catch up on posting the little doodles . So today I wanted to share May Flowers Roundabout. Over the next few weeks, I will be working on these embroideries, and I will update the posts with photos as I make progress.
My doodles are hand drawn and are never perfect. ❤
That is what is going on in the holler on this lovely day. What are your slow stitching plans for the day?
As Always,
Happy Stitching and Quilting, y'all
Melisa
Thank you for the sweet visit.

More, more and more lovelies from The Holler today. I took the last of the strong antibiotic today so after a lengthy nap I managed to do a little stitching. It really felt good to thread my needle and stitch away the evening. I seem to remember that my grandmother had an apron made with the sweet vintage fabric you showed. She always wore an apron when she was in the kitchen so she had a fabulous variety. LOL Lots of fabulous dishtowels, as well, hand embroidered by me during the heat of the day.
ReplyDeleteYes, we're experiencing some uncomfortable heat but it's just the beginning. Ugh!!! I can't remember the last time it rained.
Happy Sunday with many, many hugs. DarleneJ
Happy Happy Sunday, sweet friend. I hope your day has been a wonderful one. I am so glad to hear that you felt like picking up the needle and thread and getting in some stitching time. It stinks feeling under the weather- doesn't it? It warms my heart that the apron brought back fond memories of your grandma. I bet the dishtowels were adorbs too! Especially since they were stitched by you. I have always wanted to embroider a set of dish towels. Hmmm maybe I will do that sometime soon. I just like things like that don't you. I wish I could send you some of our rain and the cooler temps. Hopefully, you will get a bit of relief from the heat soon. Big hugs from the holler.
DeleteThat new doodle is so cute! Glad to see you are not sitting idle either, LOL.
ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much, Vicki. I worked on the bunny embroidery today and enjoyed every minute of it. Now I am ready to stitch his jacket . Hopefully, I can get to May Flowers soon. Have a great Memorial Day . Hugs.
DeleteI see you're quite busy, Melisa!
ReplyDeleteI loved the new doodle...it's truly beautiful.
Have a great week!
Hugs
Oh I am trying to stay busy, Isabel. Some days are better than others in respect to getting things done. Hopefully some of the gardening chores will slow down soon so I can enjoy more stitching time. Have a beautiful week and thank you for stopping by. Hugs.
DeleteIt sounds like you had a most productive day, Melisa. Happy Sunday!
ReplyDeleteHappy Sunday, Robin. Oh yes, it was a good day. Surprisingly , I got more accomplished than I expected which was nice. I hope you had a productive day as well. Hugs.
DeleteLove your Mom's apron and that thrifty one you bought. The design on the thrift one reminds me of the Hacienda pattern on vintage Homer Laughlin china! Your doodle is really pretty.
ReplyDeleteI have never seen the Hacienda Home Laughlin pattern before. I had to go look it up- they are so pretty and yes the apron reminds me of the pattern as well. I do not see that much western or Mexicana decor around here so this was a sweet find. Thank you for the sweet visit , Linda and for telling me about the HL. plate pattern. You know I have a thing for vintage dishes. Hee! Hee! Hugs.
DeleteI love aprons--I can picture my Grand-mere and my Mom wearing theirs...I have a solid creamy yellow one that I always wear for cooking and a pretty one for the sewing room..Love that vintage fabric one...;)))
ReplyDeleteLove the strawberries and "flutter-bys" project, Melissa...so pretty...
Rainy and cold here this Memorial Day weekend...hoping to quilt another few lines on "Lollipops" while watching the F1 race held in Montreal...hugs, Julierose
I have an affection for aprons too. I used to make my own, but it has been awhile. It warms my heart that it brought back fond memories of your dear Grandmere and mom. That's a good idea to wear one in the sewing room. One with pockets would be awful handy . Sounds like it is a good day to stay in and quilt, Julierose. I do hope you make a lot of progress on Lollipops. I cannot wait to see your progress. Warm hugs.
DeleteDear Melisa, Your blog is my favorite! It is pure joy to read it and to see what all you have been doing! On your title pic, I love the cross stitch piece of the little girl with her basket of strawberries. Do you remember the name of that pattern? I’d so love to stitch her for my hutch cabinet. Thanks very much and God bless you and yours! Sincerely, Connie
ReplyDeleteAaw I cannot tell you how much that means to me dear Connie. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for making my day ever so special. I still get nervous every time I post even after all of these years, but I am so honored that you enjoy my musings and rambles. Oh, that little stitch is called Amy Lou the Berry Picker. It is one of my favorites. I posted it on May 29, 2022. I will leave a link with a photo at the bottom of the post. I hope you enjoy stitching this little girl as much as I did. Warm hugs and love
DeleteWhat a fun new doodle! My grandma always wore an apron. That apron was a duster, a container for garden produce as well as kept her dress "serviceable!" Serviceable was a word she often used!
ReplyDeleteHappy Sunday, Terry. Aaw what a sweet memory of your grandma . I bet you have many fond memories of her in the garden and in the kitchen. My Nanny wore dusters too. I wish I still had hers. Thank you for the sweet visit . Hugs
DeleteGreat new doodle, Melisa. Your mom's apron is lovely and perfect for strawberry season! I really like the new thrifted one too. Thanks in advance for sharing with us at Monday Musings. Have a great week working on your list! Hugs, B
ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much, Brenda. Mom wore it daily for many years. It has pockets where she kept her pen and a small notebook for when she was taking orders. Lots of good memories in this little apron that is for sure. I hope you had a wonderful weekend and Happy Memorial Day. Hugs.
DeleteYou always have the most fun projects going on, Melisa! I love the appliqued strawberries and butterflies - they're going to make a beautiful quilt. The vintage handkerchief butterflies are amazing, too. That is the perfect hand quilting project for you. Thank you for a new doodle for May, too - I love it! I'm going to have to get caught up on those. Have a wonderful Sunday!
ReplyDeleteHappy Happy Sunday, Diann. Aaw thank you so much for the kind compliments on my projects. I hope to move a few of them along even if it is just a block or 2 . I started the bunny embroidery today. I look forward to getting to May Flowers. I already cut the background fabric. Have a great evening. Hugs.
DeleteOMGoodness! So much Melisa creativity. Your Mexican apron goes perfectly with a tablecloth I have of my Mom's. Love those old linens. I can see your Mom selling her berries in that sweet apron. The May Roundabout has one of my favorite flowers - the coneflower. They grew wild on the ND farm. Thank you so much.
ReplyDeleteAaw thank you so much, Ginny. Oh how wonderful to have your mom's vintage tablecloth. I just love the vintage linens don't you ? They were so whimsical and colorful. Oh yes, Mom wore the apron every single day for years . Her mornings would start early as the berries were brought to the Strawberry Shed where they would be sold. Many fond memories wrapped into that little apron. I am thrilled that you like my latest doodle. I am looking forward to stitching it soon. I had a good day working on the doodles as the grandsons played . Have a wonderful evening. Hugs.
DeleteYou've definitely been busy. The hanky butterflies are just gorgeous, enjoy the slow stitching on that project. Your berries and butterflies is looking good too. Happy stitching this week.
ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much, Kate. I am trying to stay as busy as possible. It is nice to slow down and enjoy a day of stitching though especially when I can hand quilt. I wish you the most wonderful week. Hugs.

ReplyDeleteAlso love the Hankie Butterfly quilt. Soo special!
Aaw thank you so much, Annelies. These both are relaxing and comforting projects to work on. I am enjoying each and every stitch .I hope you had a beautiful day. Hugs.

ReplyDeleteAaw Linda. You are always so kind. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. My butterfly quilts are a source of comfort and a great joy to work on . I wish you the most delightful week. Hugs.
DeleteHere in New Mexico, it's quite an accomplishment for me to get my garden going, much less to produce weeds! :) Than is a sweet heat block. With the colors you chose it almost looks like a bookshelf with a heart. Your Berries and Butterflies quilt looks fabulous! Your polka dot berries look delicious! And that floral butterfly! Beautiful! Ah yes, I remember your handkerchief quilt. I have some of Mama's aprons as well. They are special memories. The vintage apron you found is so pretty! Those Four Patch Fun blocks are so clever! Thank you for the lovely doodle! Happy week to you!
ReplyDeleteOh, dear Patricia. I know I have told you before but New Mexico is one of my favorite states. It is indeed enchanting with all of its beauty. But I can imagine it is a challenge to garden. Thank you so much for the kind compliments on my projects. I have been trying to move them along. Today was a good day to work on them since the rain set in. I wish you a wonderful week and very Happy Memorial Day. Hugs.
DeleteI’ve never seen hankies made into butterflies. Cute doodle. Lots of weeds to pull here too. We have a pile of mulch to spread around too, hopefully to keep most of the weeds at bay. Strawberry season will be an another few weeks here. I can’t wait! Gail at the cozy quilter.
ReplyDeleteGardening chores are never ending. Right? LOL. I do need to spread my mulch. I was evaluating that situation earlier today . I do wish you all the best in tackling your garden chores, Gail. Please keep us posted on how your garden progresses this summer. I loved seeing today's garden photos. Hugs.
DeleteYou are so busy and accomplish so much. I have also been spending time in the garden weeding. The pink background fabric for the berries and butterfly quilt will look great. The hankie butterfly quilt is elegant. And the fun with four patch is FUN. Your mother’s strawberry apron is very special. My grandmother always worn an apron while in the kitchen. I don’t have any of them, but I have one she made for me to wear while helping her and I have one my aunt made my daughter to wear. I love, love the May flowers roundabout. Thank you. I need to make a weekly to-do-list to keep me on track. Have a great day. Alicia
ReplyDeleteSo much going on here, Melisa! I adore your strawberry and butterfly blocks. And that Dollar Tree strawberry--I want one, too!!! Ohh, the butterfly hankie quilt--π. Two "new" aprons--wonderful. I'm patting you on the back for your weeding, too. I'm having to do double time in that area this year. Love your double 4-patches.
ReplyDeleteYour new butterflies are pretty on the sweet pink background! And the vintage handkerchief butterflies are beautiful and elegant, I love them! It's going to be fun to hand quilt them. Pretty apron from you mom! Thank you so much for sharing your happy place and linking up.

ReplyDeleteThat hany quilt still amazes me. What a unique quilt and a sweet gift.
ReplyDeleteI love your blog and have been following you for years. I am currently working on your Aunt Betty’s Blueberry House. I have a question though. Have you ever done a Honeysuckle house or a Blackberry house?? We have both of these wild bushes growing all around us and we love them.
ReplyDeleteHow fun to have your Mom's apron! You do tempt me with so many beautiful potential starts!!
ReplyDeleteThe hanky butterflies are beautiful. I made with my Mom several years ago some "hanky panky" wall hangings from my Grandmother's handkerchiefs. Your's is much better than mine. ;) Thanks for joining Sew & Tell.
