Rodster, the Gals and a Fall Doodle or Two

Good morning, Sweet Peas and Happy Saturday.

Isn't she a pretty gal?

I was telling Mr Pinker the other day, that I had not been out to the farm to see Rodster and the gals in quite a spell. I missed the crew.  Soon we jumped in the old farm truck and chugged on out to the farm.

Rodster looks unamused.  "Aren't ya' glad to see me fella? "

I was delighted to see some beautiful morning glories trailing up the fence post and  along the barbed wire fence.
Lovely pink and white blooms.
I will gather seed from these when the pods dry and plant them next spring in the holler where right now I have only blue ones in bloom.

" Morning Glory is the best name, it always refreshes me to see it. "- Henry David Thoreau

There's Edna!  "Won't you come see us, Sweetie? "Nope she is ignoring us. LOL. Ole' Edna- you never know what mood she is going to be in. Hee! Hee!  Ginger looks awful relaxed though.

That afternoon  I was able to finish the "Little  Prim Punkin" yarn punch that I started a week or so ago using the thrifted wool yarns I bought over the summer. I may attach it to a basket or wooden box later.

❤ My little doodles are hand drawn and are never perfect.

Fall Checklist is in the works!
First, I dyed my white cotton fabric with a tea/ coffee mixture. I then cut my fabrics .

Here are the cutting measurements:
Tea dyed fabric: 8 1/2" x 10 1/2"
Brown borders:  Cut 2  - 2 1/2" x 10 1/2"
Cut 2- 2 1/2" x 12 1/2"

I sewed the 2 1/2" x 10 1/2" strips to the bottom and top of the tea dyed fabric. I then sewed the  2 1/2" x 12 1/2" borders to the sides. Wallah! I was ready to trace the design.

❤ My little doodles are hand drawn and are never perfect.

It was not long before needle and thread were weaving a magical fall pumpkin and a sassy crow. I will continue working on "Fall Checklist" this weekend.

Last year I created the Spring Checklist  and then the Summer Checklist.  They were  simple prim embroideries with  a simple border around each.

I added a running stitch in DMC 898 1/4" away from border edge in the stitchery block.

Summer Checklist  ( for doodle)          Finishing Instructions for Summer Doodle ( for measurements and finishing instructions. )

That is what is happening in my neck of the woods. What are you up to this weekend?

Have a beautiful day and ...

As Always...

Happy  Stitching and Quilting, y'all

  1. Happy, happy Saturday to you, Mr P, Rodster and the Ladies!!! The ladies and Rodster look very annoyed that someone is bothering them. I remember those looks from the cows at my grandparents' ranch. LOL We'd get the eye and maybe an occasional Moo. Roflol So stinkin' rude!!!! I spent the entire day stitch, stitching away. Pure bliss! And a wonderful chat with my oldest grandson, Seth. He and my youngest grandson try to check on me, but they are busy with their jobs and their lives, so I don't push. I take what I can get LOL
Oh, how I wish I could print your wonderful embroidery patterns. Alas, the printer is not playing nice, so I'll just keep on wishing. Big sigh!!!
Have a happy, happy Saturday. Big, Big Hugs, my dear friend, DarleneJ

    1. Happy Happy Saturday, dear Darlene. I hope is a lovely one in your neck of the woods. Oh yes , Rod and the crew was not as happy to see me as I was them . LOL. I didn't even get a Moo or a Neigh. Hee! Hee! Anywhooo I did get my "fix" of seeing them and they were a lovely sight indeed. Aaaah I am so glad you got to talk to your grandson. That is so wonderful that they check in on you. I have my fingers crossed I will see mine this weekend. Meanwhile I have been stitching away on some samplers. It has been raining so a good day to be stitching. Sending a big hug from a rain soaked holler. Hugs and love

    1. Oh thank you so kindly, dear Julierose. I was pleased as punch how the Prim Punkin came out. I hope to start a new punch project soon. I awoke to the rumble of thunder and the pitter patter of rain. It has continued throughout the day which has given me time to stitch. Good to hear that you will get some relief from the heat and humidity soon. We have had some crazy weather lately. Enjoy your weekend. Warm Hugs and Blessings.

  5. good morning lovely Melisa.
Mr. Rodster and beautiful Edna are sites to behold this morning. rodster is such a handsome man and edna, wowza!!!, she's a beauty and appears to have a personality all her own. i bet Edna can be very loving when you have a treat in hand.
i love your doodles this morning. thanks so much for the directions on making the background. i'll be sure to prepare my pieces very soon.
i hope you are feeling so much better Melisa. prayers that the toothache and sinus issues have left your body. it is no fun to be uncomfortable especially when the weather is not pleasant. hot weather and body issues - nope - not for me!!!
today is a quilting day for me. i have quilting days on Monday and Tuesday as well, but i am not sure if i will make the Monday quilting day. three times in a row is a little bit much for my back and legs. i am sooooo looking forward to today, however. today is a baa bash and we are to dress up like sheep. i don't have anything to wear that is anywhere near to a sheep so i bought a little lamb on amazon that has a little bleat when you press her tummy. she's really cute. my husband, being the character that he is, said to strap the little lamb to my head and then i'll be ready to go. not this time dear.
i hope you have an amazing Saturday. it is still hotter than blazes here in California and probably will be until mid-October. at least that is how it has been in past years. if i pray for rain, after the rain the weather is horriby, horriby muggy. that temperature is most definitely not pleasant.
have a wonderful, blessed day Melisa. you're a sweetheart as always and thank you for the freebies this morning. i really appreciate them.
blessings and love are on the way to you. a great, big, squeezy hug is coming, too.

    1. Good afternoon , sweet Debra and Happy Happy Saturday. Oh my does it sound like you are going to have a grand day with your quilting friends. And what a stinkin' cute theme . It sounds like you found the perfect little lamb for your attire. Will there be special foods and projects as well or do you work on whatever your heart desires? I hope you will tell me how the day went. I just adore themed events like that. It gets the creative juices flowing plus brings smiles and joy. Do take care of your back and legs and find a comfy place to rest if you need it. Uncomfortable chairs or having to stand a lot be the pits when you have back problems for sure. I keep a heating pad ready for those occasions . LOL. I awoke to a blustery rainy day. I wish I could send some of the rain to you minus the mugginess. Now you have a wonderful time and have a "baa baa beautiful day" Warm hugs and love.

  7. So you live in the holler but there is a farm you own nearby? When I come to visit I want you to show me everything - lol! Every view I see of your place just looks like heaven. Did you plant those morning glories, or did they arrive "by birds"? ;) They are beautiful! Hope you have a wonderful weekend Melisa.

    1. Oh yes, we could actually walk through the holler and end up on the back end of one section of the farm, but it is easier to drive down the road. The cattle are usually way up on the hill at this section so I do not always see them when I go to my sister's - well it all depends on which pasture they are in . Those pretty morning glories are gifts from the birdies. The photos do not do them justice. At my house are pretty blue ones and some small white ones, but nothing compared to these. I think we would have a grand visit, Linda. I wish you were here to take the tour. Have a blessed weekend and Happy Quilting . Hugs.

Crows rank in my top 5 favorite birds. I agree they are interesting and comical at times too. Enjoy your weekend and safe travels. Hugs.

It rolled in here just at the break of dawn ; it brought in some lower temps too. Blue morning glories run rampant at my house. It was nice to see a change of colors in them. Have a blessed and beautiful day. Warm hugs.
