Over the hills and through the wash to the thrift stores I go!

Eeeh! I am spinning in delight! Whenever Mr. Pinker and I travel, we love stopping at thrift stores, yard sales and antique shops to see what treasures we can unearth! And lookie here! I found a gorgeous quilt that I am calling Desert Rose! Isn't it a gem?

| My latest thrifty find. |
Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe this is an Irish Chain design.

It was pieced using 4 different fabrics.

And the red centers were fussy cut to showcase the beautiful, yellow roses.

The body of Desert Rose is machine quilted with swirls and waves. Aaaw so pretty.
The borders were quilted with soft scallops.
I thought it was a steal at $17.99 ! But wait! I got it for 25% off that price! Woo Hoo! I was doing the happy dance all the way to the truck.
So what do ya' think? Do you think I made out like a bandit? LOL. I sure do.
Like always, I am sad for the quilter that pieced it. It is such a beautiful piece, but I am thrilled that I could give it a forever home. Plus it is a wonderful souvenir from our camping trip.
I have to admit it was a wonderful day thrifting and to make the day even more special, I not only bought 1 quilt , but I bought a 2nd one that I will share with you next week. It drew me in like a bee to honey. 🐝🍯

ReplyDeletePerfect name for that beautiful quilt! Desert Rose is so well done, and I'm sad for the quilter who made it, but it will have a very loving home with you. And what a great price! I found a thing that some folks might think looks cheesy, but I love it. I found it at Goodwill for a couple dollars. It is a metal sconce-like piece that is a nice gold color. I hung it on the wall and LED candles in it, and I love it.
ReplyDeleteAh! Desert Rose is beautiful! The quilter would be happy to know how happy you are to have it now.
ReplyDeleteYou definitely made out like a bandit, girl! Way to go. It's a beautiful quilt. I love the fussy cut roses and the Irish chains around it. Have fun, stay safe, and thrift on! Hugs, B

ReplyDeleteThat is a perfect name for a beautiful quilt. It was an incredible purchase. My grandmother always said when you use a quilt you could feel the love that went into making it. It will be a great memory of your trip. I am glad the quilt is where it will be valued and appreciated. I love thrifting while on vacation. Alicia
ReplyDeleteOh it's so pretty and you are one lucky woman! Great find. I did find a quilt recently at my local Assistance League. 110X108 It was all machine quilted and all I had to do was hand stitch down the binding on the back. It's bright and cheery and on my bed now. It was much more than yours but heck you can't even buy a set of sheets for the price I paid for it. Love rehoming lovely hand mades.
ReplyDeleteWhat a loveley quilt you rescued. The maker will be happy to know that someone who appreciates it is giving it a new life. Perfect name for this treasure.
