Good Monday Morning, Sunshine! Welcome.
So how was your weekend? I hope it was a good one. I am still filled to the gills with all of the food which was served for our Easter dinner. Mom made a big bowl of mac and cheese and it was sopped up in no time by the youngins' .
Later they enjoyed hunting eggs and playing games.
Hmmm. Any eggs up there? |
It got a little hot. The boys in fact pulled out a slip and slide and started playing. But today is supposed to be cooler with a chance of rain. Oh well- Spring weather- how fickle.
The ivy garden is starting to brighten up. Flowers are blooming in yellows and purples.
This new thrifty quilt looks like a paint pot of color in the ivy garden. It makes my heart go thumpity thump! 💗💓💗
Is this a Courthouse Steps variation?
I am calling this the Paint Pot Quilt. |
I bought this quilt in Arkansas in February while we were on our camping trip.
The quilt is filled with color. |
Is this a Courthouse Steps variation?
Each block is made up of various sized strips. It is certainly a "scrap happy" quilt.
Machine quilted with curvy lines. |
Speaking of brightening up. My roses are doing fantastic this year. Thank you, dear Joan for the tips. I did a little pruning earlier this year and they are looking as happy as lark as of now.
Mom and I were talking about our roses yesterday and how we dread the invasion of the Japanese beetles in the summer. Oh, I do hope those little devils will leave my blooms alone. Do you have problems with them in your gardens?
Today we are going to the grandsons' ballgames . While there, I plan to take along a project to work on which will be a new mini sampler.

This one is called Rose Garden Mini Sampler - real creative name huh!😀 Hee! Hee!
Anywhoo... I hope to get a good start. If you are interested , this is a Choose Your Own Colors chart. I will certainly post what floss colors I use when I get further along in the project.
UPDATE : April 27, 2025 I finished Rose Garden Mini Sampler. The floss colors that I used were DMC 730, 815, 223, and 844. I finished it as a little pillow with twisted yarn as the trim.

I know. I know . Some of you are saying "What is it with this gal in respect to her lack of ability with computers and technology?"😲😏 Mr. Pinker says the same thing. He always shakes his head and says me and technology does not get along. Yeah, he is right.😜 LOL
Well I have rambled long enough about this and that and a whole lot of nothing. I better get off here.
Have a beautiful start to your week! And...
As Always,
Happy Stitching and Quilting, y'all
Melisa
Thank you for the sweet visit.

So much color in this post, Melisa. I love it. The scrappy happy quilt looks beautiful laying the grassy area with the flowers around it. I can't wait to see more of your Rose Sampler - what I see is wonderful. Hurry, hurry!!!! LOL I'm having some issues with IG, as well. When I leave a comment it disappears - ugh so dang frustrating. May be a sign for me to leave all social media platforms. We'll see. Happy, Happy Monday dear lady and would you please get a little more productive! LOL Big Hugs, Darlene
ReplyDeleteHappy Monday, Darlene. I hope your day was an awesome one. Oh I am working my fingers to the bone on the little sampler. Hee! Hee! I did finish the vine. Flowers will go in tomorrow .I have been having the same problem with my comments too. It is frustrating. Well it is good to know that I am not alone with the frustrations. Ok I got to get a move on . Stitch ! Stitch ! Stitch! Quilt! Quilt ! Quilt! Hee ! Hee! Hope you are sewing away too. Big Hugs.
DeleteYour Paint Pot quilt is so pretty--just love how it's so colorful...the orange fabric just sparks everything beautifully nice work hugs, Julierose
ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much, JulieRose. I feel very fortunate to have found this little quilt. There was a small collection of these quilts and I picked up a number in different designs. Have a fabulous day. Hugs.
DeleteDear Melisa, how you tempt me with your little cross-stitch samplers!!!
ReplyDeleteI think this will be among my next creations.
Thanks for sharing.
Hugs.
Aaah you are the sweetest, Isabel. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I enjoy working on the little samplers. They are quick stitches. Have a blessed day. Hugs.
DeleteYour posts are always so uplifting and bright. I’m glad you all had a wonderful Easter! I accidentally deleted your comment on my recent blog post. But yes, my she shed is mine for sewing. I’m excited!
ReplyDeleteYou got a she-shed??? I need to find that post. So excited for you ... and definitely a bit envious! Lol!
DeleteOh how exciting Penny! I know you are anxious to get it all arranged so you can enjoy your sewing time in it. I am like Susie- a bit jealous! I do need to hint around more to hubby . Hee! Hee! Hugs.
DeleteI love reading about your get-togethers.The food table looks so inviting - my kind of food! Your roses are beautiful. How lucky you are to get to talk with your Mom about your roses. :) I love the paint pot quilt - so glad it found a forever home with you.
ReplyDeleteAaaw thank you so much, dear Linda. My sis, used to say that we looked for any excuse to get together and eat. Our next get together is this weekend for the grandsons's birthday. LOL. We had a great time yesterday - all of the family sitting on the porch , relaxing and talking. Have a wonderful week , sweet friend. Hugs.
Deletegood morning Melisa.
ReplyDeleteit sounds like you had an awesome time watching the grandbabies collect eggs, play on the slip and slide and just chit-chatting with the family. what a special day it must have been? we don't have young grandbabies anymore. they are all grown adult babies living on their own. they'll always be my babies, however.
my granddaughter came to visit and it is always amazing seeing Amanda. her boyfriend, riley, and their dog, ruger, came as well. it was wonderful talking with them. i love them so very much.
your paint pot quilt is beautiful. a true quilt for spring. all the color. wowza!!! you got yourself a beauty in that quilt Melisa.
wishing you a wonderful Monday. make some magical moments and enjoy the day.
blessings and love are coming your way. hugs, too.

Happy Happy Monday, dear Debra. Oh it sounds like you had a wonderful Easter with your granddaughter ,her boyfriend and Ruger ( what a sweet name) . Children and grandchildren grow up way too fast don't they? My oldest grandson will turn 11 this week , but I am like you - they will always be babies in my eyes. I try to squeeze in every minute I can with them. Thankfully, they are all into sleepovers at right now. I was super excited to find that little quilt. It always makes me a little sad when I see them at thrift stores - just knowing all of the work put into them and then sold for a few dollars. But I am glad to give it a home. Have a beautiful and blessed day, Sweetie. You always brighten mine. Hugs.
DeleteSounds like a lovely Easter Sunday, Melisa. Homemade mac n cheese is always on our menu for this holiday (and others). The little quilt is so darling and looks great amongst your flowers. The roses are showing out...great job on the early pruning. The newest sampler is going to be super sweet. Technology is supposed to make our lives easier but at times, it does everything except that!
ReplyDeleteOh it was Jeanna. Mom's mac and cheese is the most requested item at any meal and it has to be made by my Mom no exception. LOL . I was thrilled to pieces to purchase this little quit- the colors are so fabulous. Oh yes, technology can be a bummer sometimes. I just try to muddle through it the best I can. Have a blessed day. Hugs.
DeleteLove all the colors & fabrics in Paint Pot. The name is perfect! Sweet Rambling Rose Sampler. I'll join you!
ReplyDeleteAah thank you so much, Susie ; I am so excited that you are adding it to your stitch list. I worked on the vine today. I think it will stitch up quickly. Isn't that quilt the cutest? You never know what you will find at the thrift stores. Have an awesome day. Hugs.
DeleteHi Melisa,
ReplyDeleteGarlic 🧄
Try using a home. Brew of garlic water to ward off pests by the roses. Friends use it to get ahead of the snails 🐌 slugs invading their hostas . It’s an old remedy from long ago. The main thing is to get using it early enough to kill the eggs or whatever beetles have to reproduce 🤔😀
Thanks for all your beautiful stitcheries 😀
Oh thank you so much for the tips. I grow my own garlic so I will get on that task of mixing some up. I will tell Mom too. Her beetle problem is even worse. Those old remedies are always a lot better than what you can buy aren't they? Have a beautiful day , dear. Hugs.
DeleteYour Easter dinner sounds yummy, Melisa, and looks like the kiddos had fun hunting eggs, too. I love the Paint Pot quilt - definitely scrappy, colorful fun. Your roses are beautiful, and oh boy, a new mini sampler! I'm ready for a new project - thank you!
ReplyDeleteOh it was delicious, Diann. Fortunately , we had enough leftovers to last a few more days which is fine and dandy for me. It is always better the 2nd time around . The grandkids had a ball searching for eggs. I hope you enjoy the new little sampler . I think it will stitch up quickly. I cannot wait to see yours in the future. Have a fabulous day. Hugs.
DeleteMmmm Mac and cheese. . .sounds like dinner was delicious! I loved the young one searching for eggs with the big bag! The Paint Pot quilt is a definitely happy! I love all the colors. IG--I don't know. . .I look occasionally; but, rarely post or comment,--TerryK@OnGoingProjects
ReplyDeleteHi Terry. I hope your week is off to a great start. Mom's Mac n cheese is one of our favorites. The kiddos always love it. I was thrilled to pieces to purchase the little quilt- it is a happy one. Thank you so much for the sweet visit. Hugs.
DeleteSo many pretties in this post. The Easter dinner pic looks to have been really great. Something for everyone. Did the kiddos find all of the eggs? Oh, I can just smell that big, beautiful hyacinth. What a heavenly smell. I would say, off-hand, that the scrap quilt is a Log Cabin sort of pattern. If all the pieces measure the same in each of the blocks, it's a set thing. If not, it may just be a scrap quilt the maker made up and went with it. It certainly is a colorful quilt. Looks to be a baby size? So fun! Wow! You have roses blooming? We use a systemic "stir into the ground" type rose food and pest control stuff and the beetles/pests don't bother our roses. Your Rose Sampler is so pretty. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteAaw thank you so much, Ginny. The Easter dinner was very yummy. We tried to fix a variety of things - it was a bit challenging this year having to consider all of the likes and now dietary needs, but I think we pulled it off. I was looking at the little quilt. The little logs are different in each block. Yep, I think it is a baby size quilt. It is a bright beauty for sure. Oh thank you so much for the tips on the roses. I have 2 rose bushes. Last year they looked very spindly ; they are looking a lot better this year. I do need to give them some rose food . Have a great day. Hugs.
DeleteYour little thrifted quilt is just adorable Melisa! Glad you had a great Easter Sunday. Your roses are gorgeous. My one (at least 20 years old) yellow turned red after about ten years rose bush might bloom once now and then it's just leaves the rest of the summer. I loved that yellow rose bush but the red blooms are gorgeous. Hopefully it will come back this year...we'll see! Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteOh wow. I did not know roses could change colors. How interesting . Is it because of the ph of the soil? Or other factors? Mom has a yellow rose bush. It is always my favorite to see in bloom. I would love to plant more. I am trying to propagate some- we shall see if I am successful . Thank you for the sweet Monday visit. Hugs.
DeleteI absolutely love your Paint Pot Quilt! What an amazing treasure, the colors are gorgeous! I’m so glad that you found this.
ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much, Gail. I was excited to purchase this little quilt. I just could not leave it behind . It is a colorful one for sure. Have a fabulous week. Warm Hugs.
DeleteWell you sure know how to handle a needle! Technology changes every day but sewing and stitching doesn't.
ReplyDeleteAah thank you Franie! That is so true. I am so grateful that I have the needle and thread to bring me comfort because the technology can be frustrating. LOL. Have a beautiful and blessed day and thank you for lifting my spirits. Hugs.
DeleteHi Melisa! Happy day after Easter to you! I'm having the exact same trouble with Instagram, but only when I access it on my computer. When I access it on my phone I can do all the things. Love your colorful thrifted quilt!!!
ReplyDeleteOh how interesting, Nancy. Well I just may have to live with IG being frozen then. I only use the computer for my blog and IG - well for everything. I have not delved into using my phone for any of my social media- that would be too overwhelming for me- Hee! Hee! I sure wish I was more techy though. Thank you for the sweet visit and for letting me know that I am not alone . Happy quilting. Hugs.
DeleteYour posts are always so uplifting and filled with so much love and happiness. Nothing like family gathering for the holidays and big spread of yummy goodies. I am not having any IG problems at the moment (thankfully) I'll be knocking on wood to prevent them as I am so non tech savvy. Roses, grandkids and quilts ~ the perfect combo ~ have a wonderful week (nwpaintedlady)
ReplyDeleteAaaw you are always so sweet , Sharon. Your kindness means the world to me. We had a wonderful gathering- the kiddos had a grand time plus we had good food. I am not sure why I am having problems with IG ; it is so very frustrating. LOL. Have a wonderful week and thank you for making my day. Hugs.
DeleteYour mini sampler stitch is darling, Melisa. Your quilt top looks so pretty. Happy Tuesday!
ReplyDeleteHappy Tuesday, Robin. I was thrilled to pieces to find the little quilt. It certainly is scrappy and happy. Have a wonderful rest of the week .Warm hugs.
DeleteWow love your quilt find. Need to make one using my scraps! Thanks for the inspiration by visiting with you. Thanks for sharing your new cute sampler!
ReplyDeleteAaaw thank you so much. There were several small quilts at the thrift store that day. I picked up a few. This is one of my favorites. It is so colorful and cheerful. Have a blessed week, Susan. Hugs.
DeleteYou picked a very appropriate name for your new quilt. Very pretty! Looks like Easter was a success and a lot of fun. Hope you get Instagram figured out. I read it, but rarely post these days.
