🎝🎜When you wish upon a star,
Makes no difference who you are
Anything your heart desires will come true...🎝🎜
Hello there, Sunshine! How are you doing on this fine beautiful day? Will that little tune be humming in your head all day long? 🎝🎜 LOL. It will mine.
In October of last year, Mr. Pinker and I went on another camping trip where we enjoyed the great state of Texas.
One night , we were sitting by the campfire . I stared intently up at the sky.
"What are you doing ? " asked Mr. Pinker.
"Wishing upon a star, silly! " I exclaimed.
"Whatcha' wishing for? " he asked.
"I cannot tell you that if I do the dream will not come true. "
A couple of days later we headed to town where Mr. Pinker and I traipsed around in a couple of thrift and antique stores. When we arrived at one store, I squealed in delight when I spotted a vintage quilt top crumpled on a table in the corner.
I immediately made a bee line to the table and did a double squeal when I saw that I could purchase this quilt top for a "song and a dance". 🎝🎜🎝🎜💃💃💃
" Eeeeh ! I guess my dream did come true! " I exclaimed as I eagerly showed Mr. Pinker the quilt top. ⭐⭐⭐⭐
As soon as I arrived back at camp, I spread the beauty out on the picnic table.
I believe this pattern is called "Four Pointed Star" . Please correct me if I am wrong. I am calling this quilt Whitney Lake Stars to remind me of my trip.

That quilt is gorgeous, Melisa!!! Whitney Lake Stars is a lovely name. I don't think I've ever seen that block. You truly got a real beauty deep in the Heart of Texas. And you saw lots of bluebonnet flowers - be still my heart. I've been considering moving back to Texas but it's not in the cards right now. If it's meant to be it will happen but for now Arizona is home. Happy Thursday, my friend! Hugs, Darlene J
ReplyDeleteIt's a beautiful quilt!!

Hi Melisa, Babara here 😁🙋♀️👍💜 @Flashinscissors. Wow, great your wish came true! Beautiful quilt, and I love that peach colour! 👏👏👏 Hugs 💜🩷💚💛xx
ReplyDeleteWhat a find with the Whitney Lake quilt top! I hope it gets into the hoop sooner versus later.
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous find! You can really find them, can't you? I was a "pickers" store the other day and there was quilt labeled vintage. Sad when you can see the fabrics are only a few years old and is considered vintage when hand sewn :-( Still, I keep looking...Have a great day! Blessings!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lucky find for you--just a beautiful vintage piece!! What fun it will be to hand quilt this one...;)))
ReplyDeleteI am plugging away on my "Blues in the Night"--named because I work on it when I have those pesky sleepless nights...I have 3 of the 6 blocks quilted so far--yay;))))
Hope you are enjoying your trip...hugs, Julierose
That is absolutely a beautiful top, Melisa! Can't wait to see how you quilt it. I think you can call this block anything you want! When we did our SAHRR this year kite block was the last prompt and a block similar to this popped up in EQ and Block Base. In Block Base Barbara Brackman notes it has several published names including Arkansas Snowflake, Arkansas Star, The Kite Quilt, and Star Kites! Have a great day and find something pretty to show us on your camping adventure!!
ReplyDeletegood morning lovely Melisa. i love your "wish upon a star" tune and yes it will be in my head all day. i remember going to disneyland as a child and with my kids and hearing that song being played on the loudspeaker. it was absolutely heaven. your whitney lake stars quilt is beautiful. i need to move close to you. you get all the good deals. i need to star going to goodwill and salvation army shops. perhaps i could score some amazing quilts. i hope you are having a wonderful time camping. sounds like you have quite the outdoor experiences. i love hearing all about your fantastic journeys. they sound so fun and i picture myself at the places with you. continue on with your travels and have a great time. stay safe. tell Mr. Pinker to keep the motor running. blessings and love are coming your way sweet, sweet Melisa.

I love your vintage quilt. I know the pattern name as the periwinkle quilt block, also known as the Arkansas star. I have been saving thirties prints to make one. Lucky find for you.
ReplyDeleteLOVE that quilt top! Some of those do look like feed sacks.
ReplyDeleteWhat a find! The field of flowers sure had similar colors as to the top! What a wonderful name. I bet the maker (whether on earth or in heaven) is smiling that it is going to be finished!!---TerryK@OnGoingProjects
ReplyDeleteIt is most definitely as pretty as a peach :) What a beauty she is. I'll be wishing on a star more frequently now :) That field of flowers matched perfectly with the quilt too. There are many variations on star patterns (as you know) I am thinking the Compass Star. Brenda mentioned the Arkansas Star. I think it's a toss up for those 2. A four pointed star is more wonky. It really doesn't matter though because "It's the STAR of the show" Love it!!!!! (nwpaintedlady)
ReplyDeleteOh my, I love that cheddary sashing -- totally makes the quilt in my opinion. Many delightful memories to relish with this quilt. What are you waiting for? Get that needle revved! Lol!
ReplyDeleteIsnt that pretty?! Those colors really do remind me of that field of flowers photo, so y

ReplyDeleteThis quilt is wonderful! That yummy sashing color definitely gives us a clue to its age. I have heard the pattern called Hummingbird, Kite, and Arkansas Star. The name you've given it sounds special and perfect. I am pretty sure many of these fabrics are feedsack. Lucky you!
