Good morning, Sunshine! How are you doing on this fine September Saturday? Do you any grand plans for the weekend? Me? Well I plan to jump in with both feet and see what the day allows. 😀 I am sure that includes family visits, a tad of quilting and bit of stitching. Hmmm should I include some chores in there? Naaah ! Hee! Hee! 
The other day we went to a thrift store where I came home with a few thrifty finds including this darling needlepoint stocking. Now hold on to your bloomers! 👖 This was a dime! A dime , I tell you! 😳 I was a little sad as I looked at all of the workmanship put into it. I wondered: How could someone give this lovingly stitched piece away? And how come it was priced at just a dime? 🤔

Well I have a new storage container for my 2 1/2" squares, and it is straight out of the refrigerator. Well not really , but this Walmart macaroni deli container sure is the perfect size to store those little squares . Miss Cheapo strikes again! 😂😄 I just may make a cute label for the top so no one gets confused as to what is in it. LOL. 😃😂 |

ReplyDeleteI had a busy week too, my gardener was here and we did a lot of work in the garden. Work in the house called, I did a little and then shut the door. Have to stitch!

Good afternoon, dear Mayte. It was surprising to see such a stocking at the thrift shop especially at that price. I can only imagine the hours that it took to work on this sweet piece. I believe I like Gabi's idea too- just say it is the snowman's name. LOL. I am enjoying the 16 patches. I am working on more today. DeleteThe quilt blocks are so autumn! I suggest you embroider the name you want on the stocking onto a piece of fabric then applique that onto the stocking. Or, you could just wait, maybe someday you'll have a Jacob in the family. Happy stitching!

I am really enjoying working on the 16 patches. They are quick blocks to work on when I just have a few minutes in the day. I think I am going to do just that on the snowman. The little jolly fella needs a name. LOL. Have a great weekend. Hugs.
DeleteI vote don’t change it! I like the Gabi’s idea that it is the snowman’s name, and as such it’s a little bit of history that shouldn’t be lost! DeleteGood Morning! I have rescued a few things that I've seen at a thrift shop or at a yard sale. Makes me sad - but since my kids are like me (They rarely throw out/get rid of handmade stuff), things will be around forever! :-) Love your new quilt - colors are very fall-ish. DeleteSo much lovely eye candy! I have to assume the stocking was priced at a dime because it was personalized. What lovely stitching! I suppose if you want to use it personally you'll need to cover up the name. If you are planning on using it in one of your many tableaus, I'd just keep it because it adds to the charm of the scene. Happy Saturday, Debra. I am having a ball working on this new Autumn quilt. There is something about the colors that have sparked excitement for this quilt. DeleteI can’t tell you what to do with your stocking. I can share I have rescued stocking for years. When my husband and I were dating I would ask him does he want to be Robert or Charles? Our four—legged son, Decker, used an old felt stocking made for a dog named Flippy. I had bookshelves in the living room of our previous home and I would hang all of them all over. My husband bought a set at an antique mall that was Mom and Dad. He added I’m Dad from now on. Thank you for rescuing Jacob. Thank you So much for your wonderful posts. Bobbi
ReplyDeleteAaaaw what a sweet story, Bobbi. It just warms my heart to hear that you rescue needlework too and that you have a fondness for stockings. It is just so wonderful to use these stockings rather than letting them be thrown away. Years ago I saw a cross stitched stocking at the thrift store and did not get it . I immediately regretted it and went back the next day only to find that it was gone. It was the one that "got away" . LOL. So I definitely could not leave this one behind. I bet the Mom and Dad stockings are adorable ; what a treasure. Do you still hang them each year? We used to get our dogs Molly and Janie stockings too- such sweet memories. DeleteMy darling daughter-in-law’s childhood stocking was lost in her parents’ moves some years back. She has always felt left out that everyone else had a stocking that looked alike but her. When her grandmother downsized, her aunt gave her the stocking that was made for her dearly loved uncle who passed away when she was a child. It was a knitted stocking with his name knitted into the cuff. She asked me if there was any way I could put her name on it. I don’t knit but I can crochet so I crocheted a new cuff, cross stitched her name on it, and whipped stitched it over her uncle’s name. She was thrilled and said it made her feel so special knowing she has the only stocking connected to him. I think it would be so special if you put your sweet sister’s name on it and hung it on your mantle to celebrate her and your special bond at such a wonderful time of year.

She loved giving gifts, making treats and certainly had the giving spirit all year long. I love that idea. I am so very grateful for the idea. I loved hearing about your dear DIL and her lost stocking. It sounds like it was meant for her to receive her uncle's stocking.- what a treasure and to think of all of the loved ones including yourself who have made her "new stocking" special. You never know what you will find in it, but this was the 1st time I found a piece of needlework. I also found a vintage french fry cutter and a small ironstone dish. DeleteThose sixteen patch blocks are wonderfully Autumn. How big are you planning this quilt or is it a "make blocks til I get tired of making them"? I've been making them as L&E in 1.5"squares for quite a while for my gr'son #1's quilt. I like the title - Miss Cheapo. We must be related because I have a half dozen of those sort of containers stacked up with various quilt parts in them. LOL Your new thrift find is something special, for sure. The price is crazy! I have done several Christmas stockings. If you want or need a stocking for someone special, adding a framed and applique'd name tag would work or it will certainly be a lovely addition to holiday decor just as it is. I got up early this morning to go out and weed but it's 39+F out there. Whoa, Nelly! I have to wait a bit for it to warm up. Yes, I'm a wimp. LOL

I am debating on whether to make 42 blocks and add a sashing and border or make it bigger. I saw a quilt on Pinterest and am sorta copying it. Oh I had to giggle when you said that you are using the similar containers for storage. Hee! Hee! Not need to throw them away when we can find so many uses for them in the quilt room. LOL. DeleteI have read some great ideas for the name on the 'fabulous find of the year' Christmas stocking. I love the idea of it being the snowman's name, and the idea to honor your sister too but I think she deserves her own made by you. I would add a tag of some sort with when, where and price when you found it. Something like "looking for Jacob - found ___, where____ Price ______-. attach with a rusty large pin to the front. I think that just honors it's history and story :) .....PS I loved the idea of a 16 patch with the fabrics, I was thinking a 9 patch with mine but I just might change it now. Aaah and how sweet "Looking for Jacob" That would be cute to add. I do like the idea of maintaining the history and is always fun to look back years on down the road.
