"Stop doing that, dear, " Mr. Pinker said with a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye.ππ
Confused, I looked down at what I was doing."What ?" I asked.
"Are you cutting Christmas fabric and putting it in a non Christmas quilt?" he asked.
"Yep! " I said gleefully. "Why?"
Cutting fabric for Alycia's QAL. |
He smiled and said, "You will use up all of your Christmas fabric and come Christmas time you will say you need more. "
My mind raced . DIVERT . I said to myself. He has discovered my dastardly scheme. Hee! Hee! ππQuickly I looked up and pointed to the window. "Look at that hummingbird!" Would my diversion work?
As Mr. Pinker looked , with a swish of my rotary cutter, I cut another strip of Christmas fabric. Hee! Hee! ππ My diversion worked. He then merrily started to talk about the birds.
ππππππππππ
Nah! I am not using up my Christmas fabric to scheme for more. But I am using a lot of it when making scrap quilts. Some of you may remember my sweet nephew bringing 2 big garbage bags of fabric to me a couple of years ago that was given to his dad. Well I am making good use of it and putting bits and pieces in everything...
Like my Kitchen Sink blocks ...
I spy some Christmas polar bear fabric. Do you? |
and my butterfly quilts...
I spy some snowman fabric for a butterfly's body. |
...and my Scrappy Happy Flags. I pieced 12 more this week .
Snowmen and holly are in the Scrappy Flags |
This week I worked on Step 1 in The Ribbon QAL offered by Alycia . She posted Step 2 on Wednesday. My blocks are a little wonky and very scrappy. I finished step 1 piecing eighteen 25 patches.
There are dog bones and cats,
Christmas blocks and roses.
We shall see if this quilt will turn out fine and dandy with all of this scrappy goodness.
As Always,
Happy Stitching and Quilting, y'all
Melisa
Thank you for the sweet visit.

Hugs and Stitches!!!!π€π§΅❤
Dedicated to my baby sister, Amy Love and miss you, Amo.
Dear Nancy on IG, showed her beautifully stitched ornaments that she had just finished a couple of weeks ago. It was not long before I whipped out my needle and thread and began stitching away.❤ I finished stitching the second of two in Herrschners Winter's Night Music Boxes which are freebies and are available on their website. I used DMC 895 on this stitch.
I am joining these lovely ladies' link parties. I hope you check them out; they always have so many wonderful projects going on and provide the opportunity for other needleworkers to meet.

Excellent diversion! π€£π€£ I love your scrappy quilts, they can be used all year long, cause they have all kinds of fabrics in them π I haven't really made super scrappy quilts yet, but you're inspiring me to give it a try.
ReplyDeleteDoes Mr. Pinker mind your Christmas music in July? π€π π» My husband would probably look at me like I lost my mind π I'll save it for December.
Have a wonderful weekend Melisa,
Alex
Everything you have going looks great! I don't see anything wrong with Christmas fabric being sprinkled in here and there in a scrappy project. I say, if the color works, it's fair game. The close up of the little hummer is wonderful!
ReplyDeleteChristmas fabric in non Christmas quilt is quite fine. As far as Christmas music goes, my music goes from my phone directly into my hearing aids so my farmer has no idea what I'm listening to or even if I am listening to something. Besides, there is always more Christmas fabric at the stores or garage sales or thrift stores. happy stitching!
ReplyDeleteThis post gave me a couple of belly laughs. So many delightful and fun projects. I hope you're having fun.
ReplyDeleteI have serious regrets, well maybe not serious, but regrets none the less, that I didn't buy more pieces parts of Christmas and other novelty type prints when Joann's was open. BTW, I'm still mad at them for closing!!! grrr.
I did love your diversion with Mr Pinker - ROFLOL My sweet husband would stand just inside the door to my sewing room, and I'd ask if he needed something. He'd say no just looking. I wouldn't even look up, but I'd say well if you want to be in this room I'm going to set up a sewing machine just for you. He's look stunned and say "GOTTA GO". Such a fun memory!!! I haven't felt very well this week but today there's a new bounce in my step and ready to ply my needle and thread. Between nap I did manage to finish three "smalls". woohoo!!! Big Stitching Hugs, Darlene J
I'm impressed that Mr. Pinker knew you were cutting Christmas fabric, lol! Of course, we all know that anything goes with scrappy quilts. I'm pretty sure I have Christmas reds in my scrappy flag blocks, just like you do. Those 25 patches are pretty as can be, too!
Bonne journΓ©e
ReplyDeleteOh Melisa you are clever, I might use that one! ;) I love that you are using Christmas in non-Christmas quilts. What a great idea and one I intend to remember!
ReplyDeleteChristmas fabric has always been a big draw for me - I love it! Possible because it brings back some wonderful memories of family get-togethers before everyone moved away. I used to have a tub of just Christmas fabric. ;-) Love that you're using it in your scrappy quilts. Blessings!
ReplyDeleteI was thinking about those Herrschners freebies - they'd look great on those tiny canning jars!
DeleteBeautiful blog
ReplyDeletePlease read my post
ReplyDeleteHahaha... he figured out your plan, Melissa!
ReplyDeleteHe definitely knows you and knows you'll end up buying more Christmas fabrics π
I love discovering those Christmas details in any project.
Happy Saturday!!!
good morning beautiful Melisa.
ReplyDeletei love The Ribbon quilt and i am going to start collecting the pieces and parts to get a scrappy quilt made. thank you for sharing this quilt with us. your quilt is going to be so very beautiful and colorful. i love color in a quilt.
i love it when you said you were putting on Christmas music. i'm going to put my Christmas tree up on August 1st - i think. i love the lights and my past sweetheart pup, Bella, loved the lights. she was looking at the lights the day i took her to the vet to be with her brothers and sisters. i miss her soooooo much that my heart breaks everyday. she was 12 years old and have congestive heart failure and seizures. anyway, the tree and the lights will make me so happy and i am so looking forward to it. time to bring it on!!!
it's time for me to get up off my behind and get to walking my pup, Lola. she will be 12 in september and went blind due to diabetes. she needs insulin shots twice a day, but she is still keepin' on and i love her so much. we go the same route so she doesn't get confused. she stops at the same bushes and shrubs to do a little watering. she is such a cutie.
do you have a dog? i know you have a few kitties who love you to death. you're such a kind person sweet Melisa.
i hope you have an awesome Saturday. i need to get all of my pattern copies into their file folders today. i have decided today is the day. i have a lot of cross stitch patterns from Pinker n Punkin - i love each and every one of them. i can't way to begin. time to start your engines - i mean needles.
blessings and love are coming your way lovely lady.
a great big squeezy hug, too.

It never seems to matter how many scrappy quilts one makes, there are always plenty of scraps left!
ReplyDeletewhat a great dastardly plan!! I must remember that!! your scrappy blocks are great - and your 25 patches - they are LOVELY!!!
